How about EVE minus the hordes of bots - that'd be pretty novel.

The files were just way too big to work as a screensaver, so the guys put in some extra effort to make a larger looping video.
Actually you originally said
Originally by: CCP Manifest Unless I am mistaken, nobody has a screen that big to show it on (except us at Fanfest). If you do, please send us a picture of you playing EVE on it and I'll definitely get you the original file somehow :)
I called you on that and asked if you were serious about the offer but was ignored.
I guess a 25 foot screen and a 2k digital cinema projector is too small

I would so love to go, but unfortunately, direct flights from Canada don't start until the weekend after Fanfest.
Travelling to the U.S. first just isn't in the cards for me.
The most painful part is that I had permission from Mrs. Knug to go . . .
Maybe next year.

I'm looking forward to the news article where someone lets drop they are a botter and get their ass kicked up between their ears.
Also, there has been some major bull**** since last fanfest, including "18 months," "quantity generates more sales over quality," the failure of spacebook, the failures of PI, and a few other bastard things. I look forward to reading the news of people who smuggle in some produce to throw at their least favorite devs.
Bitterness and cynicism towards blatant propaganda aside, there are definitely plenty of devs who deserve to never have to buy their own drinks again.

Guys, please stop discussing botters in CCP Helmar's thread. He's just the CEO and doesn't have any control over that sort of thing. He just wants you to be excited about the spaceship sandbox game that upwards of 20 people at CCP are still working on, and maybe spend some plex on virtual panties.

I was kinda bummed about this too but decided to spring for the extra flight anyway. Calgary to Seattle, then Seattle to Reykjavik. I can't wait! My first fanfest. :3

Yeah I had to do the Toronto -> NY -> fanfest route which sucks as the direct flights start 3 days after I get back. Who the hell planned that one ? :P I even had to get a hotel in NY for the night on the way back to make the flights work so was another $500+ added to the cost of going.
Should get the Canuks together at some point \o/

The first couple of fanfests were held in a small venue which was located above a supermarket. It took me and a friend a couple of passes before we noticed the stairs leading up to the venue (thatÆs not me in the pic btw :). The venue consisted of one long room which held the shop, a small bar and two PC's which people used to log into EVE and excitedly tell their friends where they were and what was happening. I remember one guy playing docking games with some pirates in low sec and another guy nonchalantly moving the mouse over his wallet to reveal that he had over 200 million isk!!
The presentations were given and as with most fanfest they included statistics about the game we love. Also featured were sneak peeks of features some of which would be scrapped and some which would take years to release.
ItÆs weird to think that most of my favourite moments at fanfest weren't of presentations or devs talking about upcoming expansions but rather of events away from the fanfest venue. In 2004 or 2005 while Oveur was handing out bottles of Quafe I met a fellow Curse Alliance member(hey Zelota) and with a hastily scribed "CA?" drawn on a piece of cardboard we went looking for fellow alliance members in the packed bar. After a few minutes and no success we approached a huge guy with a mohawk who took one look at the sign and then proceeded to grab it and rip it in two. So in the end we didn't meet any fellow Curse Alliance guys but we did end up talking to a guy who although he hated our alliance bought us a few drinks and we talked about EVE and why we love it.
My point is that the Fanfest isn't all about EVE, in fact after a couple of days with non-stop EVE talk I tend to take a breather and take a walk around Reykjavik or a tour of some Icelandic highlights.
This year for the first time IÆm heading to the fanfest alone. IÆm not worried because I know that I will meet EVE players at the airport bar waiting for the flight, at the hotel bar waiting for the start of the fanfest, in the smoking tent trying to stay warm and waiting for the doors to open on Fanfest 2011. If by some chance thereÆs a moment when thereÆs no former alliance/corp mates around and I feel like a chat I can turn to the person next to me and say "So...how you liking the Fanfest?".

21 days until my first trip to Iceland. Another couple and it's time for my first FF. And all this with some of my best mates. (Atleast 4 of them infact.)
This might be a risky thing to say on an EVE forum, but as primarily a consolegamer, I'm mostly looking forward to anything related Dust514 (and more EVE lore and Incarna ofc). The plan is that, IF Dust is a good enough FPS, then it's time to convert that Halo-clan into a hired guns type taskforce. So please CCP, playeble Dust demo ;)

Originally by: Vincent Athena OK, I do not drink, smoke, care for loud parties, or particularly enjoy PvP. What is there for people like at fanfest?
Speaking as a fellow non-drinking, non-smoking, sensitive eared fanfest visitor.
Round tables (on lots of subjects, not just PvP), lots of presentations on new and upcoming features.
The Dev quiz (which is hilarious), the alliance panel (usually good for some fun presentations), poker tournament, lots of fellow EVE players to talk to and hang out with, maybe another rock band competition?
Development process presentations (last time one of them even included crowdsource designing a new Matari ship, wonder if we'll ever see that in game though).
Live Agent missions, the photo competition, the silent auction (lovely goodies for a good cause), and of course Iceland itself to visit.
The EVE store on site, so you can buy the stuff you always wanted from them without the atrocious shipping rates FedEx tends to result in (just keep some room in your luggage allowance for the flight back).
I did go to the Party at the Top of the World last time, and certainly didn't regret it, but a good pair of concert earplugs certainly helped there. The various performances were quite awesome.
As for the PvP tournaments, the frigate tourney was hilarious, I don't really PvP in EVE (I'm a PvE player mostly), but a pure T1 frigate free-for-all with 30 other EVE players is awesome fun. The 3v3 T3 Tournament was a bit more serious, and I didn't compete in that one. But watching those matches with live commentary was a lot of fun.
I'll be going again this year, 15 days of Iceland, 3 of which are for fanfest, the rest is to play tourist, staying 5 days longer than last time.

I say everyone should boycott the fanfest until CCP decide to do something about the botting problem in the game or atleast show some real evidence they are doing something.

Sorry but after the way the developers treated paying customers at PAX in regards to the party that we make possible I have no desire to spend even more of my money supporting CCP or Iceland in anyway.
Next year at PAX the CCP booth will be the last one I visit so that if another one of your devs tells me that I shouldn't even have a ticket because I don't have "tit$" I am going to kick his ass and enjoy my jail time.

The previous FF I had a bit of trouble getting my tickets, as my I had some problems reactivating my account. I was not in time to get the affordable cheap package, so I had to put in some extra effort to find another cheap-ish way of going and staying there (I had never planned a trip like this before, so it was a bit challenging, especially because I had to do it quickly) and go a bit over my budget to get there, mainly because I had to stay longer.
But it was soooo worth it, even the days I spend just walking around Reykjavik. Coming back home made me realize what an *******s a lot of my countrymen are, vikings are so friendly. I would totally go this year, if only because the Party On Top of the World would be on my birthday, but alas, this year I really can't afford it, not even the cheap package. But I'll be thinking about you all for a moment on my own little party.
RoXoR!
Peace,
-ChT
