So I'm getting ready to train for my rupture I'm picking this over the stabber for drone use, but was wondering weather to armor tank or shield tank any suggestions. Thanks

Go for shields. You need those low slots to make the guns perform and the extra mobility will not hurt either.
Just fly it like you would fly the Stabber.

Do one of each. They're only like 4.5M or something.

End the next line with an E or a P.. and you're more likely to get helpful fits..

Edited by: Ambrosious Martin on 27/02/2011 05:11:30 Just do yourself a favor... get hurricane. With the previlance of BC's today, and blobbing, your poor rupture will die quick. Unless ofc this is for empire war pvp.

I'm guessing for pvp?
Ruptures can either be shield or armor tanked. I'd go for a shield tank personally, given that eve is more crowded these days.

Edited by: Cygnus Zhada on 27/02/2011 10:41:55 And the complete answer is; They can be both, for PVE as for PVP. And actually, almost all good Minnie PVE ships/fits shield tank, and most of the time they do it in PVP as well. Only if you run armor (blob) gangs would you have an armor buffer, but otherwise it's all shield.
For PVE, if you do missions for minmatar you run into angels a lot and then shield tanking is fantastic. Angels mostly do explosive damage which armor really sucks at, but shield works great with it. The thing is that, per usual, people just look at a ship and decide what it is based on slots they see rather than giving it some actual thought, but even in the case of the 3 mid slot rupture that's wrong.
Here's a low SP lvl 2 fit:
[Rupture, PVE - low SP - shield] Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay I Gyrostabilizer I Gyrostabilizer I Tracking Enhancer I
Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Invulnerability Field II
220mm Vulcan AutoCannon I, EMP M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon I, EMP M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon I, EMP M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon I, EMP M Small Tractor Beam I [empty high slot]
Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I Medium Core Defence Field Purger I
Warrior I x5
It's actually over tanked but that gives newer players some buffer to mess up, which is good. Turrets are personal flavour, I would keep to using AC's in lvl 2's unless you have good skills and drone skills, but choosing for 220's or 425 all depends on which you like better, bigger=best doesn't necessarily go in EVE. Once you get better (tanking) skills you can drop the Invul for an afterburner.
For PVP there's 2 trains of thought;
1: go armor resulting in a slower, short range dps mobile with some neuting power. Garmon made this fit popular and it's actually quite good. But it's slow and has no range, new game mechanics have caught up with this strategy resulting in the fact that if you attack someone, he can attack you and hold you down and then his friends show up.
2: go shield, this results in a ship that uses the same MO as a Vagabond. It'll do about 1800m/s and 300 dps at 20km. This way, due to speed and having dps at range you can stay away from the target a bit meaning you can GTFO if stuff starts to go wrong. Speed (and agility) is a big asset in solo/small gang pvp, it's not of much use in the clueless big PVP blobs (which most ppl do).
Here's a shield fit:
[Rupture, PVP shield] Damage Control II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive Large Shield Extender II Warp Disruptor II
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M 425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M 425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M 425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M Small Energy Neutralizer II Improved Cloaking Device II
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Auxiliary Thrusters I Medium Polycarbon Engine Housing I
Warrior II x5 Warrior II x1
Cloak is a personal touch and depends on where you operate. Cloak+MWD makes it very easy and safe to avoid non-bubble gatecamps, quite handy but feel free to disregard that.

Shield, if they go for you, you are dead already in a t1 cruiser so make the most of being low pri target and hurt them with lots of dmg and tracking mods

I know a canes better but my strategy to build up skills is going tech two n using the ships to build skills off of so I'm sticking with a rupture or stabber til I get t2 cruisers then bc

That is a good way to build up your combat experience, but you will have a long way to go before you are ready for a t2 cruiser. Meaning experience, not skillpoints only.
Training up battlecruiser skill before going specialized t2 cruisers is usually the preferred way as the battlecruisers are good money makers if you run missions or rat for an income. And they are more powerful direct combat ships compared to t2 cruisers.
For specializing later on, t2 cruisers are better than t2 battlecruisers I would say. With the t3 cruisers taking the gang boosting role as well as being more useful in direct combat there is little reason to fly a t2 battlecruiser left.
