Okay, I've been playing for a few weeks now and i still have problems understanding, Optimal and fall off. I'm sure its something i'm doing wrong but it seems far more difficult then it should be. The way it was explained in the help channel was Optimal was for 0 and up to the optimal. For the best damage and with tracking limits a guaranteed hit. Falloff is from Optimal and up. The further away it is the damage is alot less and less chance of a succesful hit.
Seems easy to understand except when put in practice. I'm mostly completely in love with my Mymrmidon fitted with 250mm gauss weapons. Using either Antimatter or iron charge depending on distance.
With Antimatter the optimal is like 15k. I can utterly destroy everything within seconds between the range 11-15k. I have trouble hitting anything closer then that even the typical C/BC in pve. With Iron if i'm not at Optimal i cant hit anything at all and i'm completely screwed if the mission warps directly in ontop of the enemy. Blasters i'm complelely confused about they don't seem to hit anything if it too close or too far away. Though they seem like perfect close range weapons. I spend most of the missions just trying to find range that my weapons hit best at.
I was playing with a Mega fitted with large blasters inside of lvl 2 damsel in distress and at 1000m and could not get further away to find any kind of an optimal range.
I'm not going to comment how easy the game is with my Hurricane. I just want a Drone boat that can also add to damage with blasters or rails and i want to stick with Gallente racial stuff.
What am i doing wrong? Is there something i haven't trained correctly?

That's a bit confusing. Iron has the same tracking as antimatter (only tech2 hybrid ammunition has a penalty to tracking), so you should be able to hit everything you can hit with AM...except for a lot less damage, of course.
Anyway, have a look at this Gunnery guide, it's the best explanation of Gunnery calculations. Gunnery guide
Also if I can give a tip, don't restrict yourself to AM and Iron ammunition, hybrid ammo has a version for every distance. My all time favorite used to be AM for close range, Thorium for mid range, Iridium for long range and Iron only as a reserve for few rare situations.

In the Accesories, there is Log. Are you using Log to track your performance during combat?
