What kind of smartphones do ladies mostly prefer? An IPhone or the Android HTC Desire HD phone? Eventually other brands?
I am planning to buy my girlfriend a smartphone for her birthday, but I am unsure what to choose. She have no preferences besides she wishes for a smartphone - or at least that is what she have hinted on - and while I prefer Android any day before an Iphone its not for me. So ladies out there! What would you have wanted to have if you could have your choice?
Iphone or HTC Desire/Other brand?

Choose a compact phone, that looks good(design+colour) and is easy to use. Features are secondary as long as it has all the basic stuff like a camera. The usability and looks department is what matters though. If it has nice capabilities to boot, that is great, but good looks and usability are a must.

While I'm not a girl and wouldn't know really, imo the Xperias are awesome - so go for droid for sure. 0.07 ISK.

In three weeks or so.
Anyway, the reason for asking is I know a lots of girls from work enjoy "the super duper ultra fantastic Iphone" - which is not just best but THE best - at least according to them... .
Personally I have a nice relationship going on with my HTC Desire. Maybe I should just go for that one?

+1 vote for the HTC - I have the desire and its excellent - A couple of (female) friends have the cheaper Wildfire and love it.

Edited by: Jenny Spitfire on 01/03/2011 19:18:58 Both are good. Android means you are more or less future proof in a way. iPhone means you do not need to do customer support if she has problems.
But if she needs to just web browse, text and MMS, either is fine. Even a BlackBerry is also nice.
Don't get cheap smartphones like Wildfire. Get something with a bit more premium. It is more usable. Better phones mean more apps availability.

Shiny is good. Nothing beats the iPhone when it comes to being shiny. However, the HTC Desire looks great - the only thing I wouldn't want as a private phone is a BlackBerry. It smells too much of work and I find it tedious to handle.

Most of the ladies I know want or have an iphone. They don't care what it does, or if another phone does it better, they just know they have to have one.
Seems bizarre to me, it's just a freaking phone. But as a man who takes a similar attitude to buying cars, I'm not really in a position to criticize.

Well, it is iPhone. It has good publicity, nice polished body, colourful, easy to use, posh and all trendy people like and use Apple.

of the two, my mother is the least tech-literate... and of the two, my aunt is the one with the most problems with her phone.

Indeed. I guess I might indeed go for an iPhone. I guess the phone will match her shoulderbag and clothing somehow too...
Thanks all so far!

IŠd say that an iPhone is much more simpler to use than an android phone. I appreciate the combination of Google Mail, Maps, Calendar on an Android Phone very much, but iPhones are much better with the sparkling bells and whistles stuff. Apple treats its customers like imbecile kindergarten kids while Google gives you a lot of freedom (well, it implies you and all the scammers and rapists out there ;) ). Millions of people have iPhones, so on every bus stop you will meet several people to talk about how sparkling and great their iPhone is but of course you can feel the urge to hide your iPhone from them because they are such ****heads. So the basic question is similar to: Would you let your girlfriend play WoW or EVE Online?

Well, put it this way. She plays WoW. I plays EVE. So the equation from that could be: WoW= Iphone Eve= Android/HTC Desire?
If so, its iphone for her.. hehe

ThatŠs what I wanted to say. DonŠt get me wrong, an iPhone is a great gadget. I wouldnŠt buy it but I also donŠt want to miss a hardware keyboard on my smartphone.

I will for sure say go for HTC Desire HD here.
iPhone 4 is an easy phone to use. But that's it. When it comes to how it is when you have to install apps, copy over music, pictures and movies to you're iPhone 4, it's going to make you go nuts.
You have to use iTunes that will install some other crap on you're computer. So everytime you want to move over a song to iPhone 4, you have to freaking sync it up with iTunes every time. It's the same with pitcures and movies to.
And not only that, but if you want to delete some mp3 files, guess what you have to do then?, yes you guessed right. You have to have a computer available with iTunes installed.
And on top of that, if you are with some friends and you want to copy over some movies or mp3 files from you're friends computer, then take a guess what iTunes will do with you're iPhone 4?
Yes, iTunes will make a new iTunes library and it will delete all of you're songs, movies, pictures and programs on you're iPhone 4.
Yes, iPhone 4 is an easy phone to use, until you install iTunes.
So i would advice anyone to just ignore iPhone 4 because of that stupid system they use.
Android smart phones is as easy to use as iPhone 4, but you don't have the seriously stupid things with iTunes and that kind of crap.
If you want to know the very good reasons to buy an Android phone over an iPhone 4, then let me know, so i can write them down in the next reply from me.

Thats just another apple enigma. People who claim that they are too stupid to use shortcuts on a pc. Let them sit in front of an iMac for three days and suddenly they stop acting and memorize hundreds of silly control-option-shift keystroke combinations.

Without trying to generalise too much; women for the most part don't care much for technical details and boring gimmicks. Some people base their choices on gut feeling, some want to make sure they have what "everyone else" has and some just don't care at all.
Little trick you could use is to lure her to a phone store with the story that YOU are looking for a new phone and you'd like her input, gauge her reactions to the different phones and you'll have your answer. You'll also get bonus points if it then turns out that she didn't go shopping to get YOU stuff (which frankly is rather boring) but it was actually for her.
If she already knows that you're going to buy her a phone that obviously won't work. In that case get an iPhone, the chance of her favouring boring dorky technical details over blending in and having the cool one are rather slim.
