...the Highways.
You know you want to.
We don't need them anymore.
EVE is already turning into a tedious "grind" of agent running, mining and farming.
Last thing we need anymore is the highways to top this by turning the universe and all the empire into a homogenous cluster where you can go from capital to capital in 5 jumps.
They were useful back when the playerbase was 500-1000 people at peak times. I think we've outgrown these crutches though. They're crippling the game, no matter how nice it may be to travel between the empires in 5 minutes. It's time to encourage more domestic activity, and its time for a change, before everyone turns into mind-numb agent runners.
EVE is getting tediously repeative and boring, very fast. New "content" in the form of more boring agent missions is not what I for on am looking for. We need something better than that.
Don't let EVE turn into a simple game with nothing but a "grind" of mission running and mining for a highlight. Removing the highways is a step in the right direction to prevent that. -

Meh, I could not care less. I hardly ever spend any time in empire, especially never in the center hubs like Yulai. The only time I ever go there is to buy a new ship when I get popped. No big deal. Otherwise, I could not care less what the carebears do over there. 0.0 is where it's at.

i agree but offer a slightly different solution:
the expansion of space with the inclusion of DMZ inbetween each empire or alternatively if the number of systems is finate on the cluster, rescale the current 0.1-0.4 to 0.0 and the remaining 0.5-1.0 is to be rescaled between 0.1-1.0 and distrubution coordinated to allow for the DMZ.
While longer travel times will hinder my activities I do understand your point, getting from one side of the universe to the other takes no time at all as CCP have indeed minmised travel time, but this is a galaxy we are talking about.
With jump drives on their way probably for the 3rd/4th quarter, I think it is time to indeed in someway isolate but not cut-off regions. especially since no region of space can be effectivelly cut off aside from the obvious chokepoints.
I recommend - increase in number of routes to 0.0 and a either removal of the highway or change in system layout to increase the gap betwene empires with DMZ's.
yes, a lot of people will moan but as many pointed out, travel especially with instas and super fast warp speeds now is very fast or clone jumping, its time to introduce back some regionalisation into the galaxy, then perhaps traders will make proper isk albeit over longer journies and miners with ore distrubution will be able to selectively mine/trade what they need and so on.

forgive me, but i'm a bit slow at thinking at the moment...more than usual. how is removing highways related to agent running and mining? both are very static actions involving low usage of highways. the only actions i can think of which would get hurt by removing highways are trading and traveling empire -> 0 sec and back.
as an agent runner i don't care about highways... as a miner...hmm...i'm no miner...so no opinion as a trader i'm strictly against it! no, wait! i hate traveling...less competition from other regions might do good. -> undecided.
no police, no summons, no courts of law; no proper procedure, no rules of war; no mitigating circumstance; no lawyers fees, no second chance! |

If this is done right that is by isolating the empires a bit it actually helps trading. It forces traders to move their goods through hostile territory and would of course get a greater reward. Pirates could stop just blowing up every ship that passes along and try to actively hunt those traders and the traders would have to buy themselves some protection.
How does that not sound much better than the highway system we have today? __________ Capacitor research |

This is what I had in mind for a long time. Good idea for sure would make the game more intresting. For the story wise make it that there is a big war between the big empires. Concord cease to excist and now the empires got their own policeforce.

Sorry, travel takes long enough as it is.
Keep the highways, and make the gates all Point to point so you don't even have to materialize in a system you are transiting through.
Just load-Gate a sending you to Gate b-jump-load.

I've been hoping somthing like this would happen.
Right now there's just Empire space, not amarr space, or minmatar space etc (except to rp'ers of course). To everyone else it's just one big lump of high security space in the middle of the galaxy and kinda flies in the face of the history written about empires (i.e amarr and mimatar captical systems only being 5 or so???).
Removing the highways and creating some actual borders (i.e 0.0 / low sec space) between empires as well as more exclusive ore's, items, ships etc to each region would really help boost local economies to develop as well as create true inter-regional trade where greater risks (i.e running goods through dangerous areas) leads to greater rewards.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

Was it not m0o that caused the necessity of the highway system in the first place? Ahh, indeed it was, so why the bugger all are you complaining?
You shot your own foot, bunnyboy, now live with the consequences. Yer going to limp along for the rest of your days because the actions of your corp caused them.
But hey, be proud. Your actions actually caused change in a MMOG world, m0o is named despicable in agentmissions.
m0o forced the creation of the highway system so the carebears can market and move around without being gateganked just trying to move between regions.
Deal with it.
If ye don't like it, there's always EQ. Or better yet, WoW where you can gank newbs trying to level up and waste their agents to completely halt their progress. Make that game as dull and tedious as you've (by your own admission) made this one.

I hardly ever go to central empire now, and I was shocked the other night to experience the Caldari state.
I went from Yulai (local : 64) to Niyabainen (local : 102) to Jita (local : 178) to Nonni (local : 110).
In 5 jumps I encountered almost 5% of the online population.
That is NOT good IMO.
Personally I do not think I will ever bother to go back to that area unless I absolutely have to. Aside from one particular event I once went to, it is the only time when I have experienced the game to be jumpy, laggy, and generally grinding along. I was appalled. When I am fighting in 0.0 I never have any problems like that. Ever.
Spread the population out, and reduce the need for "hub" systems. It has already happened once with the "ringroad" patch. You can only put in so many ringroads before there are no highways left anyway. -- jamesw Rubra Libertas Militia
