Does anyone know about how much a single eve client should stress a modern multi-core cpu? Is it likely to max out a single core? Use more than just 1 core? Is the game even multithreaded? I don't really play often enough at this time to run a good test and have never payed attention.
I am trying to decide between a 4 and 6 core cpu. I often run multiple clients. How many clients do you figure you would need to stress out a 4 core cpu? 6 core?
I am leaning towards 6 core just for future proof + multitasking etc but not certain. Obviously most gaming will not require a large number of cores but for multiboxing? I will sometimes run 3 clients at once, possible that I could run 4 at some point. Thoughts?

With FPS limiter I run 4 clients on core2duo 2.33 and 3g ram, nvidia 8600 card. Adding 5th client slows system down bc of ram, not cpu, cpu is at about 50%. So dualcore is good for 8 eve clients, but you need 6g ram.

Like stated here, running multiple instances of almost anything (virtual machines, EvE, light databases) are more dependant on the amount of memory than processor cores. I'd reserve 0,5 cores and 1 gigabyte of memory per client, so 4 would be 2 cores, 4 gigs + 2 gigs for windows and stuff. Get a i7-2500K and 8 gigs of ram, you'll be able to run smoothly 6 clients.

With my system with 4GB 800MHz RAM I managed 6-8 clients without caching before the system runs out of memory.
For your system I can assume that it should run 10-12 easily. Graphics may need to be reduced with that many and effects like AA may need to be turned off but ut should manage fine.
