I know how much isk is to be gained from normal killing missions on lvl4 and thus it's easy money and the LP and all, but as I have enough skills and big sized cargos I was thinking about the courier missions. I know that normal courier trips from your basic "kill stuff agents" are pretty bad. Very little isk, no bounties and LP's are pitiful. Do the proper agents for couriers give you more?
Sometimes I wouldn't mind just delivering stuff, but if there is no ISK in it then of course I won't. I know the risks of lowsec routes and so on, but are good courier mission/agents even worth a look? We can spread the topic over other types of missions too, but the basic idea is that is there any rival to killing missions when it comes to pve-missioning?

Like courier missions given by combat agents. Courier missions were never originally intended to be used by human players, just like ice mining.

I hate currier missions they should just remove the damned things. At least before the nerf you could finish most in a hurry in something fast but now they just chew up a 4 hour timer to wait for something better and provide income for Magnate bots.

couriers pay off at level 3 and 4....but only because they fast track you to storylines with implant rewards much faster. Unless you have an uber pirate bs and unless agent gives really long runs, you can do strings of couriers in the same amount of time as 1 angel extravaganza. 4 missions in the time of 1 makes them storylines roll in faster. Level 4 this means you get the higher grade implants that sell for decent isk faster.
best adivce is find one who mixes combats and couriers. Public relataions good for this...least the ones I ran did a nice mix. Comabts makes isk, couriers give faster storyline progression.

Idiot!
Courier missions offer the fastest way to gain both corporate and factional standings in the game bar none as long as you are willing to do storyline missions. Why? Well you get those story lines much faster.

Not necessarily. If you have a high skills Mach, tengu, or similar, it often takes less time to blitz a combat lvl4 than jumping 5 jumps there and 5 back in an industrial. Courier works for newbies, who takes as long as 20 minutes just to blitz a Worlds Collide.

True, about them being a fast track for storylines (specially if they are one jump missions), but as I have no need for more faction standing (quickly anyways) I don't need that. I prefer ISK :)
Still it would be nice if the missions actually had profitable elements in all areas. It's a profession like all the other activies in eve. Some shoot, some mine, some trade etc. Missions basically only give "enough" rewards if you shoot stuff. This in my opinion is wrong. Not that I would do any other missions other than killing ones, but if you are working on some industrial alt it would be nice if you could use the skills from that profession in pve also (getting the current rewards just isn't good enough). At the moment it's probably riskier to haul stuff than doing lvl4's.

Courier missions are great for raising standing fast for noob chars. For example, if you find a station with 4 or 5 level 1 or 2 agents, you can usually accept at least 4 missions at once, usually going to the same set of systems. All you need to do is optimise your way-points and you can do them together. Apart from that though, they're unbelievably boring and not very profitable.

I disagree.
Faction gain on combat missions is higher not to mention you actually gain something in the process as far as rewards.
Back in the days when L4 couriers had small cargoes that could fit in a quick frigate that might have been true but nowadays you need a real hauler which aren't the fastest ships in the game the hauls are often several jumps away and it's not uncommon for them to be in low sec (which is a particular problem if you aren't skilled to fly a BR).
Combat missions tend to be within 2 jumps and offer larger rewards both in terms of isk, LP and faction as well as secondary rewards in terms of bounties and loot.
I suppose if you are an industrial character with no or low combat skills they'd be better.
In which case I just wish they'd remove them from combat centric agents or better yet switch them back to small cargoes that can carried by frig sized hulls.

Corp standing is faster with combat missions, but in my experince doing couriers to get those story line missions for the faction standing is a lot faster.

my fast track to caldari state faction was to accept several courier missions and use eve-navigator to set up an efficient routing. As I dropped off in a station where courier missions were offered, I added them to the chain. I did not concern myself with the minor ISK reward for finishing on time. I mostly autopiloted my routes while doing chores around the house. End result, storyline missions and faction with several corps.
