I realise the simplicity of the question, but in Eve (more specifically PVP), would you rather win (example: enemy is fielding a drake blob, you field a bigger drake blob, you win but not with much satisfaction felt) or have fun and possibly win or lose? (example: enemy fields drake blob, you field mixed fleet full of knowingly less effective ships, you lose but have fun with the battle)
I know winning is probably the sane option, but my general consensus is that some people like to maximize their chance of winning so much that the game becomes monotonous and boring because of fielding the same things over and over. I've always felt that it's a game, therefore my priority is to have fun over everything else. What do you think?

I enjoy fielding a proper pvp fleet, and either engaging a similar sized fleet of properly fit ships, or a blob twice our size of hodgepodge fits flown by inexperianced pilots.
Both can be entertaining.
There's no such thing as overkill, only degrees of effectiveness. |

Good point too. I overgeneralized with the boring statement, but I've taken that from the whines I've seen about 'boost that nerf that ad infinitum' and I didn't take into account your perspective.

I'm not specifically advocating for the removal of killmails, but more or less finding out how many people prefer to win or to have fun, or those that have fun winning.

Well, FWIW, I'll happily go down guns blazing, but since I am bad at PvP it's a choice between that and not undocking. I do better at avoiding people. -

Removing killmails will do nothing to change successful PvP tactics. To believe that people would purposefully choose inferior combat tactic because their failure will not be recorded is just dumb.
You don't get better PvP by encouraging stupidity.
If you want to make real impact on dynamics of combat, you have to change things that actually effect combat, like ships, modules, local chat, scanners

I assume that you're talking about in-game, rather than trolling the forums? In which case I'll be greedy and say I prefer both together - having fun whilst winning.
This is possible even when playing the 'carebear' game... you can get a real buzz out of avoiding pvp. Dodging conflict/gank/blob, call it what you like... can also be 'winning' and having fun at the same time.

I'd rather have fun and I get far more satisfaction in forcing someone to dock or flee the system than blowing up thier ship. Because it's an internet game, I always ask myself, did I beat him or did he lose connection or have a bad one? By fighting a person and watching them hit hull and make for the hills there is no question they were on the grid the whole battle and just got stomped. That is where I draw satisfaction. |

I opt more for fun, in pve and pvp. Some of my best fights...I ended up not wanting that ship anymore...sometimes didn't want my pod or implants in the clone either lol. Good fights, even exchanges, learned new things and made eve enjoyable. Been on both sides of turkey shoots...to me even winning side not all that great. Boring ass crap to me and rather hollow. 200 ships versus 50 and we won...no ****.
PVE the same. Yes I have missions on easy ships to make plex isk asap. Get my plex isk...wait for a nice lv 4 doable to run a hac/faction cruiser or even af in (pirate invasion and a jaguar...could be done most likely but not going to find out grinding 50 BS's lol). More time consuming...also loads of fun to me.

Edited by: Dr Sheepbringer on 04/03/2011 07:53:23 I lost three blasterraxes in a war when we had a Jita-camp-waiting-for-anyone-to-come-out. Then they did with a blob. Boom, dock new ship, undock boom, dock, new ship, undock boom. They had nice RR and neuts, but hey it was fun :D All this inside perhaps 5-7min. Still I enjoyed it and had a laugh.
Then I took out my ishkur and went to blow up a pirate in lowsec. I still enjoyed the raxloss more :)

i got scammed for 2.5billion.
hats off to the scammer, regardless of the huge disappointment i still had fun - sorta like watching a nail biting football match where u still lose, doesnt make the match any less enjoyable.
so i prefer fun.

I think winning is everything. If you do not win you are not doing it right and if you are not doing it right you are not having fun - which you will only have by doing things right - which is winning.

Imo games are meant to be about having fun, an MMO devoid of fun just becomes a second job that you have to pay for.
So win or loose as long as its fun I don't really mind.
