Can we all just accept that we hate each other people!!
The Brits hate the they Yanks who hate the Frogs who hate the Ozzies who hate the Brits who hate the Frogs who hate the Yanks who hate the Ozzies who hate the.....
As far as my take on which race is which goes...
Amarr - Fundamental christianity in the Middle Ages
Minimatar - The Middle East during the Middle Ages
Caldari - The West (and Japan) in the capitalist now.
Gallente - The French during the Napoleonic period

Ok, in the spirit of the topic here is how i see it (not really different from most)
Amarr- I think the Roman empire is a fair comparison, or maybe Egiptian, more on that later.
Caldari - definitely Japanese in social structure
Gallente - what most of Western world likes to think of itself like
Minmatarr - hmmm.... the ex-colonial tribal country sounds fair... but, without heating the discussion, i just thought of ancient israel, enslaved by Egypt (Amarr) and escaped.. lots of tribes there, too...

I suspect that this may well be a marketing ploy on the part of CCP.
After English, French is still probably the most common 2nd language most folks speak. So by identifying the Gallant as French decendents may draw non-English speakers into the game.
Also the French themselves are very partizan, and are more drawn to things with a French feel to them. That's why I expect to see something of a Gallant explosion once the game goes on genaral sale in France.

Well, Spanish is most likely more widely spread than French. Maybe not in the gaming market, i give you that. The french Ancestry of the Gallente most likely is just a somewhat arbitrary choice in order to justify a set of values that most people recognize in the words LibertÚ, EgalitÚ, FraternitÚ. (i dont know if i got the order right)

This stupid anti-french stuff is really driving me mad... If you REALLY have to be so childish, there's more then just the French to pick on. People judge other people too much by their governments and their dicisions, really. And even then, who gives a ****, how on earth can you care so much to bring this up in the forums of a computer game?
I was hoping this politics-talk wouldn't appear on the forums, but I guess it's too late now...

A few ideas to aid the Gallenteans:
1: Introduction of new trade goods to the market (Onions, Garlic, Foul-tasting White Wine)
2: Morphing screen should reflect that all male Gallenteans have big noses.
3: Skill Training should require a mandatory 30 minute break per 40 minutes of training.
4: Gallente corporations should only be 40% as productive as others (strikes, blockades and public holidays)
5: Gallente ships should be stylish and fast, armed with civilian gattling guns and have an armour strength of 1.
6: All Gallente ships should have a universal "shrug" manoeuver.
Other races should be able to pick up sensors, rare loot drops (from Gallentean Police), allowing for:
Gallentean breath detection (range 20km) Gallentean "You really ate that" sensor (range as above)
Ah, but I love the Gallenteans :)

The French - Part of most British bloodlines since 1066... live with it.
If it wasn't for the French, America would still be a British colony.

Okay, I've tried to moderate this, but reading it more closely, there would be less than half a discussion left after I deleted offending posts.
