Thanks Conscript! EFT on my MacOS Macbook (as long as it's not on Win7 bootcamp'd) is a great step forward since I use only one single Mac computer and the rest are Win-PCs. That's why all of my fittings had to be imported from PYFA to EFT and back. Those days are now gone I hope.
EFT 2.6 looks and feels almost like the 'original' win version, only two things I have to add here:
1. After starting for the first time I had to use the 'Bring All to Front' option from the Windows menu since no windows where showing at all. But that was only on the first start and did not happen afterwards.
2. The path to the fittings, just for the information of other users, is as follows:
/Applications/EVE Online Fitting Tool (V2.6).app/Contents/Resources/drive_c/Program Files/EFT2/Setups
Which would be directly inside the app package itself. To view the package's contents, Control-click (or Right-click) on the application and select Show Package Contents from the context menu. This will bring up a finder window containing a folder named Contents. Inside here is the actual package contents including the path to the fittings as stated above.

I have had some loading issues when starting up EFT lately: either I can't select or click any icons or menu items or the whole EFT window seems to be frozen. I have to restart EFT a few times before it'll work though.
edit: Macbook Pro 2010 model, OSX 10.8, 8GB RAM

Ok the following errors I found:
- I am unable to right-click on single modules in the fitting window (only when selecting multiple modules it works)
- the windows overlap and show graphical bugs when moving them around, e.g. the whole EFT window seems to be full of 'windows' and their borders. Will provide screenshot if necessary...
- sometimes I see no icons at all in EFT, they are there and I can click them but I can not see them
