based on your experiences over the last few years, which ship or combat skill would you train to 5 and not regret it over the many months to come? some that come to mind are: energy management, battlecruisers, race X's battleship, etc.
thanks!

heh I've done most things mentioned, stupid multitasking 5, guess I gotta train it at some point and put an auto targeter or something on my paladin
right now I'm doing large beam spec 5, can't wait for it to finish!
I think the only skill I regret at all right now is gallente bs5, but at the same time I celebrate it as without it I'd only be 3/4 BS5s
salvaging 5 was a pretty awesome skill to have finally done, did it on my alt a while back for the cartographer elite cert (cert *****!) and now with the t2 salvagers it is very awesome to have.
ah well I just want to have every sub cap combat skill at 5

Hard choice, there are so many that *must* be trained to 5 like engineering, electronics, gunnery (the skill itself). Impossible to pick just one really. If you mean a specific ship skill, then I guess BC5.
Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |

combat/ship oriented, i.e. amarr cruiser, heavy missiles, etc.

Large Projectile Turrets. Considering I slap projectiles on everything I fly, whether it's Matari or not, that would be a useful skill to have.
Ed.: Large Projectile Turrets V will be done in 14 hours.

Was going to say covops 5, but then I realized that that would be three level 5 skills.
So... given that your restriction completely rules out T2 anything, I'm going with navigation 5 (or possibly the MWD cost-reducer to 5). ---

Navigation 5.
It was the first one I have trained to 5, simply because one is moving around all the time no matter what ship you fly. It is a skill that takes effect as soon as you undock and only stops once you dock again. --

BattleCruisers V - because it's one of the most popular classes and there is one skill for all races.
OR
Drone Interfacing V - *if* you are a non-trivial drone user because no other skill offers a 20% boost per level like this.

It's a silly question, there's so many core skills you want at 5.
I have 74 skills trained to lvl5 and I don't regret any of them, that's why I trained them..
Especially with your "that you wouldn't regret in a few years" premise it's a weird question, you won't regret any of the options you're considering.

What is it people don't understand about combat skills?
Racial cruiser V is the only choice. However, you might want to consider a few things, first of all; I now have one of those annoying sigs. second; you should probably move on to some more interesting things than reading this sig.

Racial cruiser V is the only choice.
Without a second or even 3rd skill at 5, cruiser 5 doesn't do much (beyond basic bonuses from t1 ships). Remember, you only get one skill at 5. You have to have (at minimum) six skills at 5 to operate a t3 cruiser, and generally at least 3 for any t2 cruiser.
I'd imagine Drones 5 would give you the biggest DPS boost (or possibly scout drones 5) and a navigation skill would have the greatest inherent "boost all your ships" value. ---
