Why are Amarr so .... meh. What's the point in having a race who's range of ships are completely mediocre in most departments.
It has to do with NPC ewar. Sanshas and Bloods employ energy neutralization and a particularly gimpy form of tracking disruption that doesn't affect falloff. Minmatar ships don't require capacitor for their guns, and they don't rely on falloff.
Make the NPCs read some patch notes and maybe we'll see something other than Minmatar Online. As it stands, the only real option for Amarrian PvE is to grab a Nightmare. They can use tachyons with multifrequency, which gives them about half their range in falloff instead of optimal. The tracking will suck (which gets even worse under the non-stacking-penalized NPC tracking disruption), but the Nightmare's bonus somewhat mitigates that. The fact that you're doing less EM damage than a minmatar ship, with much worse resists doesn't help matters either.
Autocannons:
- Don't require capacitor. Oh, and their ships actually get DPS bonuses instead of capacitor reduction crap that Amarr gets. Rifter gets 5% speed and 7.5% tracking. Punisher gets 5% resists...and half the fits use autocannons. 'Nuff said.
- Damage selection so good that you can do more EM damage than lasers or more Thermal than blasters -- on a race whose racial damage type is explosive!
- Ludicrously trivial fitting requirements. Try to fit a rack of 425mm guns on a stabber or rupture. Hey, awesome. I even have room for an 800mm plate.
Try to fit Neutrons and 800mm on a Thorax: 13% over grid. Try to fit Heavy pulses and an 800mm an Omen: 37% over grid.
Minmatar ships:
- Very flexible resist profiles. For Angels, the only thing better than T1 shields is T2 Amarr -- and good luck using lasers against them. For Amarr/Blood, Minmatar have T2 shield resists which are awesome, and T2 armor resists, which are basically immune.
- Fast enough to dicate engagement range. Minmatar are the fastest ships. They're also extremely agile. Considering how many times they've had to nerf nanofibers, polycarbons, and microwarpdrives, I think it's still safe to say that speed is king in Eve. That hasn't changed.
- To top it off, they tend to have the best slot layout. For PvE, they can shield tank to maximize tracking enhancers and gyrostabilizers. For PvP, they can armor tank and free their mids for ewar, propulsion, and tackle. Amarrians have to compromise between damage and tank, and they don't even get free midslots to play with because it's entirely consumed with propulsion, and capacitor recharge.
Are you REALLY surprised that we've been suggesting almost exclusively Minmatar ships?
