On my manufacturing planet I dumped in a ton of P1's to be manufactured into P3. I build all the routes correctly and the process starts up just fine, I get all the P3's from all the Facilities at the same time as expected. However, sometimes after 2-3 days of manufacturing, one of the P1->P2 facilities will bug out and not start processing for 20-40 minutes after the rest of P1->P2 facilities start. These pull from the launchpad which still has plenty of the P1 to pull from. It's rather annoying . Any ideas? |

Two things, I can think of. As both are also in the border of "how does it actually work?".
1. I've been wondering if there is any difference between routing from launchpad routes (aka, incoming) to factory or routing from the launchpad storage to factory. I had a situation where I already had some P1 on the planet and wanted to start the production instantly so I routed it from the storage. Not sure if it will cause any problems in the long run, but....
2. You have routed them from the same "incoming" route. For example you have two extractors routed to your launchpad. You route ONE to both factories. Will it understand the second route? As it's VERY annoying to see which route is being used (anyone heard about resizing that window!!!!). What I'm thinking is that the process is waiting for materials from the same route and untill then it waits. Even though the second route has already produced it.
3. Links, are they getting overwhelmed by all the "woodoo" from steps 1 & 2.
As I said, these are so much "solutions" as thoughts. I would like to know how the routing/storage etc. is actually working in PI. How smart is it or is exact and the tools to overview it are...well...poor.

Edited by: Twisted Blaze on 12/03/2011 08:48:10 Unfortunately, the P1 mats are imported from off world and start on the launch pad. But, as you said, the interface is just unpolished ...

Am I really the only person having this problem? I just had it happen on two different manufacturing planets that went for 2 days without a hiccup. One of the planets has a facility that's like 35 minutes behind, and the other about 45 minutes. This p1 to p2 factory causes my p2 to p3 to lag behind. My fear is that I am / will be losing product in this process.

Buffer the P2 output, you won't lose any materials due to hiccups. Infact, if you haven't already done so, buffer all the input/output to mitigate sync issues.
That said , I've encountered cases of missing buffers. Pointless to chase, worry or petition due its sporadic nature.
