Originally by: Xearal While I applaud the idea for being 'cool'. Something to do to the map of Eve and change it is awesome in my book. However, while reading this topic, I came up with way too many ways where this would be abused or simply be bad for Eve. Just a short list:
An enemy has put your station down to it's 2nd reinforce, you block off the system with these and a cyno jammer, and your station is safe as only the people who are now in the system are the ones able to do anything there. giving you a massive 'home advantage'.
You block off a major route from where a small alliance that is in null can attack you, meanwhile, you have a couple of cyno's on the other side and a titan to bridge your fleet so you don't need that stargat. This will make the larger alliances ( aka the ones who have the titans ), even more able to control things in sov space.
The Ultimate Bubble camp: Instead of bubbling a gate and camping it, you shut the entire gate down and shoot anyone arriving there. Do this on a regional or consteltion gate where there's trafic and you're good to go. Even worse, people can't come from the other side to liberate the gate, they have to arrive in your system from elsewhere.
A major alliance can use this to shut down an entire region, making their part of space unassailable. Just because it has a downtime of that week means squat. you just put it up in system A, then when the gate over there is in recovery, you put it down 1 system further and lock it down over there, then go back to A after a week.
These sound like cool new tactics, not problems imho.

Originally by: Aiden Carode Very interesting idea, I dig it.
It's probably been suggested already but it gives me the same crazy idea as destroyable/buildable stargates. These built for stargates can be shut down and controlled, are expensive and can be destroyed or hacked. <-- anyway enuf crazy ideas that will never happen.
No dude I think you are on to something here. F#@$ null sec though... the OP has a good idea for null sec and I definitely am interested... but I think your idea, though nevagonnahappin in null, would be an AWESOME expansion for wormhole space! What if stargates constructed in WH space could connect to one another? You could build your own empire from the ground up! Discovering a network of stargates would be incredible... and worth a lot of ISK to the right buyer. Hell... to keep things fresh we could even say after X weeks of deployment a stargate runs an increasing probability of being destroyed by a sleeper fleet.. could really be epicÖ

As a quick follow up... I thought about a problem with that from an eve lore perspective... you can't just arbitrarily connect stargates in WH space because we have no idea what the distances involved are... so CCP would have to give the WH systems fixed locations and it would be only possible to connect a stargate if the systems were close enough to one another to allow a gate jump. That would be a lot of work... I think maybe on the order of the WH expansion itself. That makes me think this will not happen. Sad day. Cool as it would be the likelihood of it happening in the near future is remote. |

0.0 with no risk. Cool story, bro. GB2WOW.
No risk, eh? I like the sense of security you have... hopefully miners would have it too... getting through by wormhole and killing a metric sh@#ton of miners sounds like fun to me. Maybe a gate hacking module would be cool to online stargates too... or require a password to get in until hacked. If the gate is hacked and the hacker recovers the password, he could even sell it... still sounds like fun. |
