Soo, I got the rare (judging by the low number of articles I could find on it) escalation Pirate's Path. Reading the wiki, this is potentially a very lucrative series of escalations, so I set destination... Great 12 sodding jumps through lo-sec! That night was a very, very quiet night just after DT, no-one in corp, no-one in alliance, and the map tells me only a few players scattered between the 12 systems, no ship/pod kills, and we all know the galactic map never lies! So I decide to forgoe my safe, cloaky Loki fit, as the DPS sacrifice is rather large, and fit a combat mission for the trip. Precisely half way I and bump into a red on a gate, he wasn't camping (if he was, he would have been a very bored pirate!). He gave chase, and kudos to his skills, he was right behind me as I warped from gate to asteroid to asteroid (no safe spots in these systems, never even been there before). Realsing he was eventually going to catch me, i did the only brave, sensible thing i could...I logged off mid-warp. 2 1/2 hours later at 2;30 am, i wake up, worried for my Loki!. The logon screen tells me I'm still in 0.0 space, so not podded...nervously I login, and Lo, my Loki is fine. I quickly jump back to home base, and go to bed. The next night I fit a cloaky Loki, and head out to the target system. Unfortunately the system was occupied by a player station, so there were 6 or so in local. I nervously checked D-scan every few seconds, whilst taking down the 10 mill Dread Gurista... I Kill, him, and get told that the escalation ends here, damn. So I loot his wreck..oh joy, faction ammo and a tag....great stuff.... Well THAT was certainly worth it, I could have earned 10 mill in bounty doing one cycle of ratting in the safety of my home system.... Stupid escalation, give me some better rewards for my effort next time, I've got several multi-million isk Gurista hardeners from local rats! Come On CCP, up the reward chances on these dangerous null-sec jaunts...! I don't believe in signatures, not even really cool ones like "This signature intentionaly left blank" |

That is why you join the NC blue regions as far as the eye can see. Also they are escalations you can make billions off them or you can get shafted and get a dead end early just the way randomness works.

You can also make safe spots on the fly by bookmarking while you are in warp. They aren't particularly safe. If you parked at such a SS, even if the red didn't have probes, he could eventually scan you out by warping back and forth, placing BMs closer and closer to you. It's much harder when your SS isn't between two objects.

You know, I've read that a few times (bookmark while warping), but when i try, I get the error "you can't do that while warping" Is there some secret? I don't believe in signatures, not even really cool ones like "This signature intentionaly left blank" |

This.
I can lose a ship for whatever reason, proceed to faceplant desk and then shrug it off. 'Ok, do not do this next time'. Lesson learned, moving on.
Crap drops and failing escalations grief me to the point of anger tho! ---------------------------------------- Treat the EVE markets like you are its Pimp.. it is your 'willing' employee to fondle n use n abuse as you please. |

Well if some of you feel exploration is so bad then why do you continue to do it? yes sometimes it sucks and sometimes you get rewarded.
Worst example I can give you is the escalation for Gurista Annex. It starts in low-sec s no hassle there. Howeve in my region it always sends me to the Black Rise region. Factin warfare... so there's always people online hunting me.. And the worst pat is that every time i've done this one the final rat "Gurista Colonel" have never dropped a thing.. And i've done this like 20+ times. Doesn't stop it from being fun though... ----------------------------------------------

I just discovered a tandem trigger in one of my favourite null sec plexes (that i've done dozens of times) buried in a 3 year old forum post. I've searched this plex dozens of times, and everything online is either wrong or only partially right. Maybe you're doing it wrong. I was.
I know that has nothing to do with the OP, but I wanted to share anyways.
OP, you answered your own question. If you hadn't been nonchalant about fitting for cloaky, you would have taken care of that escalation in about 25 minutes (it is super easy) instead of having to log out, reship, fly back and forth etc. and even with just the bounty, it would have been a fine payout for your time. I don't complain when I have to fly 10 jumps for an escalation, forget to bring enough ammo and end up having to fly home and back again (for example).

But you had fun right? the pleasure at escaping a red pirate (although I don't really agree with logoff as an escape), defeating the escalation under the noses of a lowsec corp in what may be their home system... and sneaking back to hisec with your loots.
A much more enjoyable Eve experience than your "one cycle of rats in safety"

If you really want to do it that way place a bookmark between 2 planets/moons/sun whatever. Then you warp to another object and place a new bookmark thats out of line with any object to object warp. Use your map and think about where you want your spot, then use more warps + bookmarks to make it even harder to get too. Make a few more and bounce between them. If you keep moving they don't have time to find the spots.
Of course once they get tired of playing cat and mouse games and go get/or call for probes those spots are pretty useless. Once probes are out you can't reuse the spots, they might catch you on a scan as your aligning and if you warp to that spot again you might find someone waiting for you.

Yeah, I have to agree, the whole heart-stopping moment when the red chased me..my heart was racing, I was cursing my stupidity for not fitting a cloak, chanting "no no no no" Would have been a different reaction if I'd logged back into find my pod in space...in null sec...6 jumps from home...with no billion isk ship...! To another response...THAT's why I do Complexes... I don't believe in signatures, not even really cool ones like "This signature intentionaly left blank" |

Edited by: Higgs Foton on 11/03/2011 09:27:00 I finished the pirate path escalation several times now. Its an escalation with quite some dead ends popping up. Sometimes i get crap loot on all 4 sites of the escalation, and one time it escalated only once, but the DG rat gave me a DG invul and a rattler BPC. So it's all very luck depending. The last three full escalations i had only gave me faction ammo and some meta 4 modules when i popped that Haruo Wako dude, so don;t expect anything when doing this escalation.
As for reds and so on. NC best C. :D ___________________________________

I think exploration is about the journey, not the reward. That's how it is for me anyway. Sure isk is necessary, but i prefer the experience. Hit an escalation from a low-sec site the other day. Not sure if any of you have had this one - says they will reward 1 bil for 3 assassination targets. I think this is a lie though, in the sense that you get double crossed on the last part. Sent me all over the shop, managed to avoid a couple of engagements and ended up getting a low-grade crystal and 2 gila bpc's. Not bad, although took sometime.
Sure prob could earn more dual boxing l4's but its not for me. Run level 4s, earn isk, pay for pimp mods on mission ships. To do what with? run more level 4s till the end of the cluster. Been there. People need to realize that exploration, whilst profitable in some cases is more about the exploration itself and doing something different. At least that how i see it.
