I went through the list of people to vote for that CSM thing.
They all sound the same. "I want to bring our ideas to the attention of CCP," or, "I want to bring CCP's attention to our ideas."
Who did you vote for, who should I vote for, should I vote at all? And why?
Or just ignore this post IDC really.

My Top three Choices were General Windypops, Arden Elenduil, and Meissa Anunthiel.
I liked Meissa Anunthiel's past competence on the CSM. The Consul of Steller Management needs someone who knows the ropes.
I liked Arden Elenduil's Pro piracy platform. The Pro piracy part of the player base needs someone to represent their interests.
I liked General Windypops Anti Mittini platform. The Northern Coalition and Cluster**** cannot be allowed to take over the CSM.
I would vote for one of those three.

Well it all depends on what you want doesn't it. Read what the candidates have to say and make a decision. If your candidate proves to be a capable fellow, then great. If he ends up being an embarasment to everyone, then it wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last.
The people who got my votes were people who were familiar to me in the sense that I've seen them debating game issues for a long time. Since they've been talking and debating issues about the game before, I know they're capable guys and I know the basics of how they feel about the game and where it should go. That isn't the only way someone can prove his capability to me, but you need to prove it somehow. Every useless sack of **** can have an opinion about everything and they can copy snappy slogans, but unless they are people who know the game and have shown to have good workable solutions to current issues I would never vote for them.

Edited by: Jon Taggart on 11/03/2011 00:30:28 I originally planned to vote for Serious Internet Politician, as my disagreements with his opinions were minor at best, but I decided to drop support for the candidate as I did more research. Serious Internet Politician was originally T'Amber, who sold his character & account after resigning from CSM5 as First Alternate. The reason behind his decision was his negative opinion toward PLEX for Remap.
I can understand that it might have been a matter of principle to resign, but I'd like a candidate who's in it for the long haul regardless of the issues and opinions of CCP or the other CSM members.
But that's just me. Still on the hunt for alternate candidates. I need to do more research.

Not going to vote at all tbh. You've either got NC/Goons, anti NC/Goons, empire dwellers or wormhole exploiters. What a great mix.

Edited by: Mynxee on 11/03/2011 01:16:33 My advice if you want a diverse, proactive CSM that has the game's interests at heart and not just a one-trick pony agenda? Vote for a candidate with broad perspective on the game, who will represent players from all walks of life in EVE (not just special interests), who has a strong desire (and ability) to communicate with and engage the community, and who understands what kind of work being an effective CSM delegate involves and will do that work (some of which is boring and tedious).
The three front runners as far as I'm concerned are Trebor Daehdoow, Seleene, and Ripard Teg. My reasons are explained here.
I voted for Trebor, then reactivated an account the other day to vote for Seleene. If I had another vote to give, Ripard Teg would most definitely get it. As it is, I am doing my part to help him and the other two get the attention of the community because I feel that all of them are vital to evolving the CSM and continuing to improve the way CSM gets stuff done.

I can't push folks to blindly follow the vote, if only because I think that in the light of the interaction between CSM 5 and CCP the whole concept is of such importance to EVE we really should inform ourselves. I know, CSM is part experiment in terms of democratic process, so there is block voting and mud fights and outright manipulation. But, that is part of this emerging dynamic, EVE. It's up to us to read, listen, ask questions, discuss. But that's my opinion, obviously.
Visit the Jita Park section, read the threads, but more importantly follow the links to the blogs of the candidates. Jita park is a hotbed of political posing, obviously. The various candidate threads are a decent place to ask questions, but keep in mind theat it is a political arena.
On blogs candidates tend to be more informative, and there is good opportunity to ask questions and go over answers. A good starting place for that is the CSM 6 Facebook page (I know, Facebook) where the blog posts of the majority of candidates pop up as they are written.
I made my choice, I should say. The motivation is too long to paste it all in here, I originally posted it on SHC. The following is pretty much the gist of it:
Quote: My votes are going equally to Seleene and Trebor. I can't make a choice between them, since both bring to the table the combination of what is needed in CSM 6. In my opinion, obviously.
It's a combination I cannot see present elsewhere, in spite of some really nice folks running, and a few even with a good grasp on several detail level balancing topics - It just strikes me that unless the big pictures are tackled, the detail level will just be used by a "team awesome" to distract folks and simply stall tangible matters into oblivion. Sucks, yes, but EVE is more than just a game. It's an emerging dynamic. And this is CCP.
Considering the multitude of candidates, but also renewed block voting (which IS a part of how the election process works whether we like it or not) and a lot of turmoil on "omg foxnews bridges are getting killed" and more such stuff, they're both going to need every vote they can get.
If you want to read up on them, have a look at their threads (Seleene, Trebor) in Jita park, or read their blogs (Seleene, Trebor, the latter also has a general overview page up).
Anyhow, take a lunchbreak and go over some blog posts, ask questions to candidates and watch them respond (then compare to blog postings or past statements (eve-search.com is your friend, you can not just search for keywords, but also for authors or explore their statistics and posts) - because there is a LOT of politics. Obviously.
As for whether CSM matters? Think of it this way: we have one instrument to make ourselves be heard, the CSM. We can either toss it out of the window unused, or we simply inform ourselves and take the chance. EVE is worth it. So are we all.

pick random threads on the Jita Park Speakers Corner and read from there.
I'm not going to tell you to vote however CSM 6 is possibly the most important one so far, as CCP really wants to get your 330M+ isk out of the New Eden economy and in to a Plex transaction, so take it from me, bury your head in the gravel and remain silent when CCP does something you don't like over the next 12 months or vote for someone ANYONE and whine to them when CCP does something stupid that you don't like.

I was pretty disappointed by almost everybody that got elected into the last few CSMs, but then again, that's quite par for the course. If I remember to, I might vote on the 22nd. No idea who for yet.
Don't really care much anymore, since whoever I endup expressing some votes for EITHER almost never makes it into the CSM, or if they (rarely) do make it in, they turn out to run contrary to (or at least, not significantly interested by) whatever they promised during the election campaign. Oh, hey, look, ALMOST just like regular elections !
By the way, I ended up considering any representative democracy a pretty much by-default-failed governing system (Linkage), little more than a popularity and chest-thumping contest, with people that want power getting it far more often than those that would deserve to have it (or would know what to do with it), which normally don't even bother running (or if they run, they never get the popular unwashed masses vote), so, screw politics, both IRL and for the CSM. Then again, it's not like there's any noticeably better governing form around, so, you know, "meh".

I voted for making threads about stuff that you think needs attention from ccp. If others agree then there you go with no silly csm shenannigans though I can certainly understand the marketing angle for ccp.

Seleene. IMHO he has the best tools with his inside experience of CCP and their working tools/planning to actually get things shaken up this time. This is also the 1st time i'm voting due to me feeling confident enough someone could make a real difference with the pre-work CSM5 has done. ___________
