Hey All,
I have about 8mil SP. Can fly HAC's and almost a full T2 tank (Working on Hardeners still and also weapons). I have T2 Medium drones and am a couple of days away from T2 heavies.
Currently using a Domi for lvl4's but seems so slow, Is an Ishtar able to do them faster or do I need more SPs?
What sort of setup should I be using on it.
Thanks Mad

Edited by: Furies Ops on 11/03/2011 12:50:47 Umm... Ishtar requires cruiser V => max damage from drones + medium / small weapon dmg. Dominix same bonus for drones (if V no difference) + dps from large weapons. If BS skills i less than V I would use Ishtar if drone dps is main source for damage + smaller signature.
Also getting t2 sentries seems to take like a small eternity, but mission wise it's preferred over heavies.
Also skillwise I think it's waste of time to *try** to train BS & HAC skills same time (those which don't benefit both). Stuck to Ishtar, get ok skills (tank, cap etc) with it and you can transfer all but weapon skills over to dominix.
If you feel like it takes ages to do anything, get another account, train character to use SB and fire away.
Also, if you're planning to play eve longer, the second account will benefit you later. More than two account equals to insanity ;) but two accounts is minimal necessity if you ever plan to leave high-sec.

Hey, Thanks. Yeah. Planning on concentrating on Hac sized ships. I can fly a BS, but to big and cumbersome for me. OK. Thanks for the input.

Beware... I have similar attitude and as a result, 3rd year into the game non-stop training and I can't still use any BS class ship. I can board most of them, but that's all. On the other hand, each and every sub BS class ship can give some serious loving from me, Pve and pvp wise.

t2 sentries >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> t1 sentries.
you wont regret queueing lv5 sentry drones, if you fly the ishtar often.

T2 sentries is where the Istar earns its rep. If you want to fly one train to use them and pretty much all of the other drone skills. The good news is they all transfer to any other drone boat.

Is the strategy to drop the sentries and let the Ishtar close in on range and apply guns? Or should the Ishtar stay in one place with the sentries. I'm asking in both PVE and PVP scenarios.

a domi should be faster than an ishtar at most level 4s, mostly because the domi has 6 turret slots and a bonus to these turrets.
what I like about the ishtar is it is easy to get full aggro and go afk while your drones kill everything.

For PVE I orbit the sentries (on AB if necessary) and use reppers on the drones as needed. Thre drones are tough targets and even med reppers fix them quickly or negate incoming damage even for primary target of the rats.

A domi shouldn't have guns on it =/ If you're going to pay attention to your lvl 4s, fly a missile boat. Domi/'tar are afk mission boats.
That little rant done: I shield tank my ishtar, for em/therm, as well as kin/exp mission rats. t2 shield resist rigs are cheap as hell, put a t2 anti-em on and you're good to go. em/therm mish I use photon/heat hardeners, kin/therm i use heat/invuln, exp/kin i use exp/invuln. dcu, 2 PDR, 1 SPR, and 1 OD in the lows
As for which drones, to me depends on mission/situation. Sentries for blockade/wc4. Heavies for a few others. I can never remember which for what.
Doing the mission is easy. Aggro whole room, use light drones/sentries to pop web/scram frigs, then switch to heavies/sentries. Orbit something @ 15km and go read a book. Come back, loot. ♥

I disagree. Missiles are boring and if i want to pay attention ill fly a vargur or mach if you really want effectivness.
My domi has guns and i sooo dont fly it afk. You can get nice dps out of the domi if you pay attention using rails and sentries.

Domi with T2 sentries and rails will do more DPS than an Ishtar. The advantage of the Ishtar is that it fits in a Orca, and doesn't feel so whale-like. -- A vote for NC candidates is a vote for RMT [Aussie players: join ANZAC channel] |

You're wrong. A Domnix can match a CNR (easily beating a Raven) if fitted and flown well -- but only if you pay attention and actually fly it. A Navy Domi can do even better. The fact that they can also lolafk missions is a nice bonus but doesn't serve to define the boat.

I have no idea why you'd do that for em/therm rats. Using the rig slots for something other than SDAs will just cut your Ishtar's efficiency .
For exp/kin rats (which is to say, Angels) I'd argue you actually want a Gila. Higher base exp resists plus native shield tanking plus close orbiting in the first place means a Gila is at worst competitive with an Ishtar and likely beats it in practice. (Haven't tested the Gila; it's hideous and I have a Mach for that anyhow. And before that I used a Sleipnir, which I still love dearly.)
And how exactly are you wedging omnis onto that shield Ishtar? Play to the strengths of the ship, don't compromise them....
And since I'm feeling long-winded today, some ideas for the OP. First, a link to high-end Navy Dominix fits. Second a rather high end plextar for Guristas:
