I can state as fact, without fear of contradiction, that 100% of the Eve population read these forums.
I challenge anyone who does not read these forums to post here to prove me wrong.

Edited by: Valari Nala Zena on 12/03/2011 00:20:24 There are a bunch of people i know who check CCP announcements/blogs.
Most of the people i know only come visit when someone linked something in corp/alliance.
Other than that, i can say most people i know never visit the eve forums out of own initiative.
Can't say i blame them :).

Originally by: Kijo Rikki EDIT: I would also like to add my guess. I feel that 10% of any given MMO population regularly reads the forums and of that 10% probably only 10% of those guys post.
Sounds about right.
A quick look at some eve-search stats would suggest that there are maybe 20û25k posters, but that's over the entire life of the forums, so maybe 15k active right now. However, those are individual characters, not accounts, and if I remember my QEN numbers correctly, the number of characters should be in the 700k region.
So that's ~2% of the character population being actively represented on the forums (and that neatly takes into account the existence of alts), which probably equates to a slightly larger percentage of the accounts (due to yes-man alts and sales alts and all that).
My guess would be something along the lines of 30k regular visitors; just over 10k regular posters. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Regardless of what the number actually is, I find it amazing that people can play a game, or in this case a long term MMO, without ever having the bright idea of checking the forums for guides, news and whatnot. Then again, the majority of the human population are clueless idiots so I guess that explains a lot.

Get ready for this place to turn into tumble-weed central when the forums move to EveGate.

Considering that the EvE-O boards almost directly resemble or match the local chatter of any trade hubs (without the neat little separations of sections), I'd say 100% of the population reads the EvE-O forums in one form or another.
I'd say the forums are nothing but a compartmentalized and sorted version of Jita/Dodixie/Amarr/Rens chat that EvE has set up for the eventuality of people not being able to be in game, or those in the game not fast enough to keep up with real-time garbage text.

According to a dev post I can't arse myself to dig up the number of active unique posters on the eve forums is well under 1% of the game population.

22% would be a huge number compared to pretty much any other game out there.

from previous experience of working at a games publishers and knowing some community managers on different games I'd way active forum users are usually about 0.5 to 3% of total users, you might get up to 5% where forums are heavily integrated and another 10% who might visit but not post.
the majority though don't visit forums they've signed up to, let alone post. when I was part of a team managing a general gaming forum we had 60k members, about 1k active users a month and about 100 daily users, of which probably more than half posted everyday. because it hosted servers you might get people sign up and only post a couple of times, mainly to get a question answered.
you'd get a surge when you had exclusive news or a major problem or you got in the news.
with eve though, given many players have more than one account and many more will post here with more than one of there alts its hard to say without asking ccp for the exact data on individual accounts or ip address as players accounts are not always linked. also the forums and account system is integrated which might mean more users at least look at these forums.
