Exclusively use broadcasts instead and enjoy a stress & confusion-free fleet experience where comms are silent for 80% of the fight and no important information can get lost in chatter.
Also the FC's job is to hold things together, to communicate with scouts/allies and to make the high-level tactical decisions (engage, disengage, regroup, positioning/movement, types of ships to shoot at. ...), actual calling/broadcasting of targets can be safely delegated to a different person.
I'm a NPC corp alt, any argument I make is invalid. |

Best I've seen is just make names that are a PITA to pronounce. This causes hesitation when the FC tries to figure out how to call it. |

that's funny... I actually had expected the criticism to come from the different end of the spectrum as while what I wrote works very well for large engagements it doesn't really apply to small gangs.

I actually had expected the criticism to come from the other end of the spectrum as while what I wrote works very well for large engagements it doesn't really apply to small gangs. edit: I think I made a solid argument in favor of the style I advocate (dedicated target caller who relies on broadcasts) - less stress for everyone in the fleet (= less mistakes), better communications, frees up the FC for more important work. Instead of replying with arguments of your own, your post comes down to "that's not how we do things" and "you are a NPC corp character without a killboard". That's somewhat understandable as the only arguments in your favor would be an excuse about bugs/lag ( long time since I've experienced issues with broadcasts, nothing prevents you from switching back to calling targets on comms if that should happen) and several variations of "our fleet members are bad" (at setting up their fleet interface, at following broadcasts, at making autonomous decisions, at ...). I have never flown in a FA fleet but I am going to take a wild guess and claim that in those instances where you want to avoid unnecessary mistakes and can rely on your fleet members not being completely reta rded (i.e. in capital fleets) you probably do things pretty much the way I advocate.
Usually the FC calls targets over voice because it is a sad fact that a majority of people will ignore broadcasts. Some people also ignore the voice of the FC, least there be another designated caller. I have witnessed this in FA fleets as well as other CFC fleets. Occasionally everything will crumble apart and random people will call targets, but by then everyone is dead/dying anyway.
Capital fleets are different and usually as you stated because it involves BIG BUCKS. But in reality most voice communication is pretty messy.
