You'll find this in every online community, I'm sure there's plenty of threads on the WoW forums about how EVE sucks and we're all gay/jewish and stuff.

Should we exclude General Discussion too?
Let's ignore the (pruning aside) biggest forums because they're often inconveniently horrifying to read. |

It's one of the reasons why I'm surprised things like EVE fanfest, and WOW's event doesn't collapse on it's own weight of fail.

The EVE community of the past has gone and is now replaced by a drooling, ignorant and highly arrogant bunch of jojos who think they know everything there is to know.
Unfortunately many of these people are still living with their parents, no chance of getting married because of their obese body weight, and in many many cases they live on benefits with no chance of getting a proper job. That is the reality of a lot of people in this so-called "community".
None of that matters once they sit tight in the virtual spaceship and they roam nullsec. Their invisible friends help them live through another day and if they manage to hit cheap potshots against freighters then they will celebrate with yet another pizza and two bags of crisps.
This might sound harsh to many of you but the reality and the fact of the matter is there. Many of the bunglians out there don't even realize how dire their living standards are, but who cares when they can come to the forum and bask themselves in some 5 minute glory.
That's how bad this community has become in the past 5 years and frankly, it surpasses the cesspool of ignorance that WoW is struggling with by a mile if nothing is being done soon. Peace through supreme firepower |

Liking a niche genre doesn't make you better or more mature than everyone else. This community is no better than any other I've seen.
Most people just aren't interested in a game where they can't move around with their in-game avatar. They enjoy running around as an orc with a big axe killing critters more than they do aligning to celestial objects and operating a directional scanner.
Eve targets a small audience and it has done really well considering. Personally I think that the things most attractive about Eve have nothing to do with the spaceship combat. Few games these days have territorial wars and campaigns, run on a single server where you can always play with your friends, have non-consensual and strict PVP where you are always at risk to lose everything and you can profit from ganking people.
I haven't played all MMOs, but I don't think such a PVP system has existed since early-Ultima Online? Until it gave way to carebear concerns.

Originally by: Ciphero Edited by: Ciphero on 18/03/2011 10:23:32 Back in t'day, Eve genuinely did have a more mature community than many other MMO's (the big bad WoW chief among them), probably due to the inherently steep learning curve. The kids and denser members of society were turned away by the game itself, unwilling as it was to compensate for their short attention spans and the short planks that they were as thick as. Eve is now 8 years old, and has (quite rightly) opened itself up to a greater audience - 10,000 online is no longer remotely noteworthy, let alone an event everyone gets excited about.
The downside to this wonderful growth is that that maturity in the community has gone. That's fine - that puts the Eve community on the same level pegging as other MMOs. What other MMOs generally don't do, however, is look down their noses with undeserved arrogance and smugly proclaim that they're different. Over in Eve, you can read about the "WoW kids" in every other thread, two posts below "lol jew ***" being considered a worthy reply.
Be immature, be childish, be embarrassing. Don't pretend you're better.
Edit: Opinions mine, not necessarily that of my corp/alliance/yadda yadda.
TEST Troll Bad Troll
in other mmoforums people say "stuff" against us too... but eve forums is the best place to have "Tears" and "Stuff" so... i can has stuff too?

FIFTH largest, you mean ? And yes, we should totally ignore that forum, because it is by default "a wretched hive of scum and villainy" that less than a quarter of the steady other-than-CAOD-forumgoing population visits on a regular basis. _

Lets get one thing straight: The forums are not the EVE community. They are merely a part of it (and a small part at that) There are other forums, there are blogs, there is the tweetfleet, and much more.
Take WoW as an example: Try having a decent conversation with anyone not in your guild in the general chat channels in WoW. Count up the number of WoW blogs which go into great depth and detail regarding WoW's economy. The results will be distinctly lacking in maturity compared to EVE.
The reason a lot of people say EVE's community is better (and it has won awards saying so), more mature, more apparently intelligent and all the rest is because it is. There is no denying it.
Remember, the forums are only a small part of EVE's community, you shouldn't judge the rest of us from the antics of a minority of trolls and idiots.

Declaring Eve's community to be the best, quietly ignoring the immature aspects?
Oh, wait, you only skim-read the post and are attacking a claim I haven't made, never mind.
Originally by: Ciphero The downside to this wonderful growth is that that maturity in the community has gone.
Indeed, Goons happened around 2006. Since then the forums arr full of "ololol", "no U" and "Umad bro"? It's not that I care (I stopped caring about EVE ages ago and just clown around) but the degradation of EVE started with threadnaughting, ****posting ******ed idiot Goons. Just a fact.
TEST is Goons remade (as Goons are now playing this game serious business-like while still spouting old stale memes). If you don't like that EVE is full of shouty, low signal to noise ratio ****posters then don't be part of a group which does exactly that.

well im glad that the OPs superior intellect was here to tell us all the best thing to do.
it should be noted however that in a fist fight between EvE players and pretty much any other MMO we would win. Thats a fact. This being the case I figure we can call them anything we like cause what are they going to do about it? . -IRON MIKE IS hi sec lolwarrior- |

My second choice would be Vanguard.
And I've heard the american WOW servers are worse than EUs which makes me wonder...but I don't take it as proof, just interesting to think about.

I used to be a forum mod for EQ2, I have to say it's improved dramatically over the past few years.

we come from EvE, blobs is what we do. 12 million is totally doable, i mean theyre just going to blackscreen as they come in and we can pick them off with ease.

Simplicity and quantity does not equal quality. And since most of wows players are mostly US based. It's not surprising the number of idiots and drool mouth morons wow has in it.

The only difference between these forums and the WoW forums is that on their boards your thread is on page two four seconds after you've posted it. Here it's four days.
If you think differently you've either never seriously been active on their forums or you're deluding yourself. The attitudes are identical, it's just a matter of scale.
Oh and these forums lead to hung requests, forcing you to refresh/click again like every 8 clicks.
