I've lost my second Vexor and both in the past 2 weeks. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've been using this fitting. Ignore the target painter, I have an afterburner in place of it. I replace the hardeners when needed to suit the mission. With that fitting, I've had no problems with my missions until now. I warp in and get literally jumped by 20 reds. I didn't even bother sending my drones. My skills are decent for the fit and I've been using EVEMon as a guide for the skills.
At this point, I'm willing to try anything to get through these L2s. I'll take any suggestions and willing to purchase and sell PLEX for isk.
Thanks

1)PLEX won't help you and will suck the fun out of your early game experience
2)Which mission is killing you? Some missions have triggers and whatnot that can make even an easy mission extremely difficult if done wrong. |

How will PLEX not help me?
And this seems to be it.

1)PLEX won't help you because you're trying to throw money at a problem when you're not even sure what the problem IS. Level 2s are quite easy to do in cruisers, and at your SP level throwing more isk at a cruiser is just going to make it a more expensive loss.
As far as that mission goes: It doesn't seem to spawn a whole lot, you sure you have the right hardeners fit? |

Good point. And Yes, I was sure. The mission was quite simple, warp in and pickup a medical drone. I tried tanking my way the second time (first time I warped out due to taking too much damage) and I just barely made it and before I could warp out in time, my ship gave out.

Mercenaries, even with the correct hardeners, hit quite hard. You might just want to skip those missions, or maybe try to kite them.
Alternatively, start training and saving for a battlecruiser. It's what you'll be flying for lvl 3's, and they're great ships for those pesky missions. They're also fairly cheap.

That mission you linked has no mention of a medical drone.
Go to your journal, and find the mission there (it should be labeled accepted). Post the name here. |

Range too short, tank too thin. Train for medium railguns and use mid-range charges. Also, warp out if your hull is soon to be damaged. My Omen has about the same resistance and DPS as your Vexor but can tank damage much much longer, it's cap stable if AB turned off; also it can hit up to 40 km. Had no problems at all with lvl 2 missions (The Blockade included) and even did some lvl 3.

Yeah, the mission I linked has the same name as the one I have in game and that's all I could find.
EDIT: Found this.. Read the last comment on the bottom.
"How about "mission of mercy" then? objective free the med drone and provide access for repair crew - ie kill all the mercs. 1 cruiser + 4 frigates on warp in. Another 4 cruisers and 4 elite frigate spawn as soon as you do anything, then another 2 cruisers and 4 elite frigates 30 seconds after that. Required my main in a passive tanked drake (HAM fitted with a painter and active hardners only) to do this and even then I had warp once to regen my shields. And with bounties at 700k this is a L3 mission not L2"

Do you mind if I see that fitting?

Admittadly I've pretty much maxed all my tanking skills, but I can do any level 2 and most level 3's in my Vexor
=High Slots= Med Blasters Meta 4
=Mid slots= 2 Invul Field II 1 Shield Extender II
=Low Slots= Damage Control II 3 Shield power relays (I think all from memory as I am not at my comp.)
Hammer Head II's
I use my guns to draw agro and kill frigs that get close to me. the HHII's Kill even elite cruisers in seconds. I almost never have to warp.

Another comment from the same thread: "It's not that hard; you get close to the drifting ship and it gets blown up. (I didn't see a spawn till I got fairly close to the drifting ship) Warp your tail out and collect the reward."
I myself have done plenty of such recon-type missions when you are only supposed to warp in, say "OH SHI~" and warp out. It's ok :)

1- you don't want to get too close to rats because that's where they start to hurt, stay at range and burn away if necessary. 2- make sure you use light drones against frigates 3- make SURE you have the right hardeners for the mission (and ignore the clown above me who for whatever reason always shows ppl fits with em/thermal hardeners and then tells them to fit like that) 4- some missions are more difficult, others aren't meant to be tanked at all, Recon for instance hints at "you don't have to kill everything to open the gate" which should be translated to "don't even TRY to kill the rats, just rush to the gate like a madman or you'll get in trouble".

Edited by: Frank Millar on 19/03/2011 12:04:58 Tech 2 (mission specific) Hardeners and Armor Reppers, and Light and Medium Scout Drones (Hobgoblins and Hammerheads) don't take that long to train and make life easier.
I got them fairly early on.

a t1 fit vex will lol through L2's. you really dont need ANYTHING in terms of tank. just 5 t1 hobgloblins and an AB. get aggro, use AB to get out of range, let drones mop up.

The problem you are having here is simply that missions is not normal L2 difficulty, its definitely more of a L3. It is very difficult to tank that in the same manner you tank any other L2. If you try soaking up the damage you will lose ships. Either fly in, align to a warp point, kill one ship, then warp out, or try flying directly away from the enemy as soon as you warp in . Keep your traversal up (zig zag away from them) and let the Drone do the work behind you while you prepare to warp out. There have been numerous forum threads about that mission and they involve a lot of lost ships
