It saddens me to have to Inform the Eve community , of the Death of Rampage in real life....Not only was he my CEO in the corporation Storm Guard Elite , but he was also my supervisor in R/L , at work at a luxury yacht building shipyard... where he shared all the knowledge he had with whoever asked for it...And he was also my closest friend where i live now. He lived across the hall from me , and was the one who introduced me to the game. He was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver , while on his way to work this morning. He is mourned by his wife , and daughter 12 yrs.old . Rampage was an extremely charismatic person , who never did things half way...his strong will , and drive , made him an exacting boss , and a exiting friend...you could talk with him on any subject , and generally find him knowledgeable , and if he didnt know something... by god , he would find the answer. Even people who didnt much care for him could respect something about him. But when you are strong willed ... you cant please every one. the Members of our corp. are a ecclectic group of people who are not boring by any stretch of the imagination , but when Ramp logged on , you could feel everyone come alive... He didnt wait for things to happen... He made them happen... We in Storm Guard Elite will never be the same without him... And I know my job in R/L will never be the same either... He touched a lot of peoples souls , some times wether they wanted him to or not...there is an article on theolympian.com for those who wish to read more on the accident... His wife and daughter are doing ok , as i just got word... just a funny aside...one of his great joys in life was attempting to find something funny to say , while i would be drinking coffee at work...usually with the effect of the coffee coming out my nose...I will miss that... And I know he will always have that slice of my soul wherever i go in this life..... Affectionately....Kajira

A death of a person is always a sad moment. The thing that makes it worse is that he got killed by a drunk driver, and that his daughter needs to grow up withouth a father.
My condoleances to his family.

In the name of all of us SGE, thks kajira for those kind words. We are surely missing him already. It is allowed to be selfish in that case.
Thinking a lot of his family and beloved, and wishing them lots of strength. Great sadness and so few little words to express it. It's just not the same now. Good bye Ramp. Love, Svet.

Ramp was a man's man. He took charge, made things happen. His temperment demanded respect, and he always got it. I will miss those qualities, and I will miss the man who they belonged to.

It was such a sudden shock, going from hearing him on ts the other day to logging on and finding out he died away in such a tragic and needless way. Even though I have only been with SGE for 2 months, it was really apparent he was one of the driving forces behind the corp, and I wish I had known him better. He will be missed by all of us here at Storm Guard Elite. ___

WOW is all I can say. This is horrible news. When I saw the thread title I'd assumed he had just left the game. I didn't expect to be reading this. He was a strong figure in SE and he'll be missed in game, and out I am sure.
I'm glad for the small time I had interacting with him in Eve.

I was once told that the measure of a persons wealth and value, can be found in the company he keeps and friends he hold dearest to himself. By the overwhelming responce here by the eve community alone, it is obvious to me that Rampage was truely a king among men

I did not know him in game or in RL. It is truely a sad day for the whole community. We banter and we fight. We often forget there is a RL person behind the screen. I truely feel for him and his family. I hope someone saves this forum thread for his daughter. I have no doubt she knew her father far better than any of us in this game could have. Im sure she would appreciate seeing that ppl all over the world will miss him.
Rest in peace Rampage. I do not know your real name. However, I will pray for you and your family. I have no doubt the message will get thru.

I offer my condolences out to all those pained by this tragic loss of life due to irrespondible actions of those purposely chosing to endanger their own and others lives. This strikes a particular cord with me, since I live in Olympia, where Rampage was killed, and I've driven the route that he was killed on many a times.
Although I never met nor have heard of Rampage before now, the unfortunate lose of life is always tragic. Fly high, mate, and enjoy the ether.

Edited by: Finley on 04/02/2005 01:24:53 The first thing that comes to mind is......thank you.
Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.
Thank you Kajira for saying what so many of us in SGE feel right now.
Thank you Rampage for everything.
There is so much that I wanna say, but don't know where to start. From EnB to EVE, it has been a great 2.5 years. It will never be the same playing this or any other game. I will never forget the day we met, joining a fledgling corp, doing trade runs together, leeching combat experience off of each other. We moved up the ranks together, building a better, stronger corp. We always made it through the rough spots. We left EnB, looking for something better, and joined the EVE beta test. We started all over, building a strong corp from the ground up, with the help of friends, old and new. All the time it was your vision, ambition, determination, and drive that got us where we needed to be.
There are not enough words to begin to describe Rampage. Honor, respect, valor, determined, honest, caring, charisma, humor. These do not even begin to scratch the surface. Rampage provided me with some of my fondest moments in front of a computer. We never met face to face in real life, but I still consider you a friend. Those of us left behind will move on in due time, but you, Rampage, will never be forgotten. Today we will mourn your passing and tomorrow we will celebrate your life.
To put it simply, Rampage is SGE and SGE is Rampage.

A sad day indeed. Any community that loses a prominent member will grieve, regardless of in-game differences.
I was wondering, was this the accident involving the Ft. Lewis soldier on Highway 101? It's all very strange because I heard this on the news earlier today, and it came to mind when I first saw this post, but it never occured to me that they would be one and the same.
Again, I think all of Stain, if not EVE, is with me in saluting Rampage for contributing to the community and making this game that much more fun for all of us.
Is someone arranging an in-game salute sometime? If not, it might be appropriate.

First off, I would like to thank Kajira for starting this thread. It is fitting and appropriate that you found the words to express all that we in Storm Guard Elite feel.
I have only known Rampage for the last 3 years. My first encounter with him was in Earth and Beyond in Storm Guard Elite guild. He impressed me with his leadership, humour, and overall charisma. It was no wonder to me at all that he became leader in no time. I was honored to serve as his sergeant and later on promoted to officer. We had many great adventures.
When he told me he was leaving EnB and beta testing EVE, I signed up immediately and we began our new adventures here in EVE. As founders of SGE corp, it was an easy decision to have Rampage be CEO. The man just knows how to get things done. Under his leadership we have prospered and I have come to know many people that I both respect and love.
Thanks Rampage for showing me the way and being such a part of my life these last few years. I miss and love you more than you know. You are irreplacable as a friend, partner, or CEO. We will do our best to see that SGE lives on and that your vision remains the guiding principle for our efforts in and out of game.

I posted this on our Alliance forums, but he affected more members then within our exulted Empire...
He was that kind of guy.
This game is so versatile. You can take this game anyway possible, if you have a mind, or thought or desire, you can do it.
Some people just stand out in what they're doing more so then others. Rampage was one of those fellows.
He was friendly. He had a laugh that could drag a smile out of misery. He stood tall where others did not. He made a helluva adversary, and a great friend. He was someone you could count on.
He was successful in game as he was in his own life. He laughed, he enjoyed, he thrived.
To his corpmates, I salute you.
His memory, his style of game I'm sure will be respected and honoured down the lines of all who met and had the honour and pleasure of playing with and against him.
May he find his sunshines of the tomorrows, today and I hope he found when he looked back into his life, he saw no regret.

I would just like to take the time to say thank you to all of you who posted this enemy in game or foe...it means a lot to all of us at sge that you can see the man he was in real life.
I met rampage about a year ago when I joined up with SGE. He took me under his wing and taught me many things I needed to learn about the game and about myself. He made a big impact on my life more than just a game. He was a very honorable and well respected man who earned every inch of it. He was a driving force that held us all together and made us all who we are. He will be missed deeply. He was my best friend in the game and would loved to have known and met in real life. Without him I feel lost. His caring and fun loving nature kept me going day after day. I would jump through hoops for him and will continue to without him but it will never be the same. I feel I have lost my best friend I've ever had and hope he is in a wonderful place.
I would like to express my sincerest condolences to his family for they have suffered a greater loss than I have. He is irreplaceable and to have to move on in life without him they suffer the greatest loss of all.
Take care my friend I will miss you always. May we meet again someday in that space lane in the sky.
your friend always and forever.....Brutator/Eric

Yes he was a great guy and loved Eve ...But he had a unique knack of inspiring everyone immediately with his super positive attitude and infectious laughter...He seemed to be shamelessly head over heels in love with life... real life and eve life. Here's my favorite poem for times like this...
" Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.

Hard to say anything, I was honored to call him a friend.
I live in the same state as Rampage, its been allover the news. I could barley speak when I realized it was him on the news and the horrible circumstances.
I offer my prayers to his family to get them through this unimaginable nightmare.
No more I can say, I wish I only knew him better in real life.
The quality of the man behind the character "Rampage" was visible to all that knew him. I have only good memories, and promise to never forget him.
Gonna miss you man!

My heart aches for Ramp's family, and for all of us who knew and loved him.
We'll get over it and move on, because that's what people do. But it's not going to be the same. I miss him so much already.

Altho I have not known Rampage for more than 2 months he was a very charismatic individual. He has had an impact on me in the very short time that I have known him. He gave me trust, respect, care, willingness, and hard work all with out even knowning who I am. He was a great man because of this and of the way he demanded respect and attention. He was a go getter and a doer not some one that would just sit by and idlely watch and let things happen to him.
I cannot express the sorrow that goes out to his loved ones in their time of hardship.
It also brings a smile to my face that he has even had an effect on his in-game enemies and that they truly know who this man is and was at the core a great man.
It is my Honor to call this Man my Corp-mate, CEO and most of all Friend.

It is always sad to see these types of posts and really brings in to perspective many things, mostly that there are real live people on the other side of the screen, with real live family, real live friends and real live issues. Our deepest condolences to friends and family of Rampage, and our best wishes for the future. May their grief not be a burden, but a bridge to the joy of the fond memories of shared experiences.

A great man is lost to SGE, SE & EVE. But more importantly, his family
Originally by: Admiral Seafort A sad day indeed.
That's the one.
Originally by: Admiral Seafort Again, I think all of Stain, if not EVE, is with me in saluting Rampage for contributing to the community and making this game that much more fun for all of us.
Is someone arranging an in-game salute sometime? If not, it might be appropriate.
Watch this space...
Allways move fast, you never know who's catching up!

Firstly, I would like to offer J.I.T's condolances to, his family and his corp. Its always sad to hear of someones passing.
Secondly, I didnt know the guy, but its clear from all the posts here, that Rampage was a well respected member of our EVE community. I therefore would like to suggest that we form a petition, to get CCP to name one of the newer ships that are to be launched, Rampage, in his honour. (Pref his in game race)
Its a small gesture, but something we as a community can do. ----------------------------- Hmmmm........ Crokite

Latest news on Rampage's untimely passing
All I can say is fair play to this guys wife, I dont know if I could be so gracious considering the circumstances. I also notice there is a trust fund for the little girl being set up, in recent times I've been proud of what the Eve community has been able to give in the face of adversity. I wonder if we can stretch a little bit more to help.

This is so sad its really ripping in my soul. My deepest condolences to You and his family!
The anger does its thing to, I really really hope they got the drunk driving guy, I dont know what punishment DUI-killers get in your state but I somehow hope its not death, it would be much to easy. Words too strong for this forum emerges from my head regarding proper punishment for such a crime.
And if you all havent already, make sure you tell the ones you love exactly that and give'em a hug or something. And when you've done that, repeat it. Often.

Damn. Well, Rampage and I didnt always se eye to eye... scratch that, we agreed on one thing once, the SA constitution was way to inflexable... yep, thats it. Now, although rampage and I almost never got along, he did have a very impressive deamener about himself. He never backed down if he was right, and he backed off imideatley when he was wrong (although, humility never entered into those events.) Rampage was a man of a strong will, and like a good leader, it was his fearsome directness that made him someone even I would follow. 'Page, we never got along, and givin the circomestances, i'm not raising a glass to you... but I will raise fist and and say a good hoorah instead. you'll be missed.

This is very sad news, my deepest condolences go out to those he left behind, and may he find peace, werever he is now.
The words of Henry Scott Holland are what i recall at times like this;
Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away to the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, That, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect. Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same that it ever was. There is absolute unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you. For an interval. Somewhere. Very near. Just around the corner.
All is well.

Edited by: Angelsfist on 06/02/2005 12:08:16 When Andrew and I left Earth and Beyond and came to beta test EVE. We had a shared vision for what we wanted our corporation to be and our membership to be like. We wanted to see and do everything and to have a membership who not only enabled us to do it but loved too as well.
It breaks my heart to see his picture on my desktop but fills me with immense pride that we have succeeded in doing what we set out to do. I wouldn't trade our membership for anyone. We are indeed family and it is evident in not only the way we love and care for one another but in the strength and devotion you have all shown to the corp over these last several trying days.
Thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do. He would echo my sentiment when I say that you all are the best.
Love, Anna Angelsfist Dir. SGE

The deepest sympathies go out from Independent Manufacturers to Rampage's family and friends. Although I didn't know Rampage either in game or in RL, as CEO of a corp which lost a member in RL in tragic circumstances last year, I know exactly what his corpmates are going through now. When you work closely with other people in a game like this, be they friends in RL or people from the other side of the planet, you get to know them personally, but I don't think we appreciate our corpmates enough until we lose one.

Such a tragic loss and such a waste. Sadly to say he is not the first nor is he going to be the last victim claimed by drunken driving. Hopefully at least this will teach our community to never practice drunk driving.
On my own and my groups behalf my deepest condolences to Rampage and all of his friends and family.
As for the drunken driver (If he managed to survive the crash) this is one of the hardest regrets to live with. Hopefully this will make you strive to become a better person allthough by the sounds and looks of it trying to replace a person such as Rampage sounds nothing short of impossible to me you have alot of work ahead of you...

He isnt a part of my family and i couldnt pick a face out of a crowd but yet i felt like a part of my family had gone becuase he was a good person who u always knew could have a laugh with.
i will remeber him as he would have wanted people to remeber him

Originally by: Valdi I see how u are all despising the drunk driver, ofcorse it¦s not wise to drive drunk, but i know that the poor man who hit Rampage did not do that cause he wanted to, i¦ve seen what happends to man after he hits someone and kills him. The poor man deserves no less sympathy then Ramp's famely. R.I.P. Rampage, may you go with angels.
Sympathy for the driver??? Well the minute an intoxicated person starts up his/her vehicle and drives off they know the risk they are running and they are being selfish. I for one have no sympathy for somebody who knowingly drives while they are impaired, and just want to get from point a to point b. That driver could have just as easily called a cab, friend, family member to come get them. Or better yet slept in the car till they were sober enough to drive.
It's very sad that Rampage and his family have to suffer the consequences of some idiot who decided to drive when they should not have.
I hope this opens the eyes of some folks who may be on these boreds that drink and drive.
May god bless Rampage's soul and family through these hard times.
The driver, he/she will have their day in court and they get to live with the fact they are responible for taking away somebodys husband, father, friend and game mate. I hope that guilt eats away at that person while they sit in jail and for the rest of their living days.
"Come on God. Answer me. For years I am asking you why. Why are the innocent dead and the guilty alive? Where is justice? Where is punishment? Or have you already answered? Have you already said to the world, here is justice, here is punishment, here..............in me"

Edited by: Graffix on 07/02/2005 08:50:24 I was informed of Andrews death Thursday by email, which I only got around to checking earlier today. I have been distraught and crying all day. I missed the ceremony in DSS and feel terrible that I'm a slacker with my email. I've just watched the windows media movie in his memory and I'm absolutely touched and still crying. Thank you SE. I did not know Andrew in real life, but the time we talked in game, out of game and on TS, I almost did. The only thing keeping me from knowing him in RL was distance. I only knew Andrew over a year and a half but in that time I looked up to him as an older brother and loved the man. Now I just wish I told him that. I find myself scrolling through old emails he sent, ones where he sent pictures of his beautiful new house and how excited he was about being able to move in. I now cherrish the moments he shared with me, in the short time we knew each other.
Andrew had GREAT leadership characteristics. As a true leader, Andrew guided SGE, he did not rule us. He had a strong sense of vision, passion and was able to get people to commit 100% and take the necessary action to see that vision become a reality. He exceled in the art of communication and motivation. He gave allies and foes alike the mutual respect they deserved, and within the corporation he instilled confidence and enthusiasm in us all, and day in and out Andrew showed credibility and integrity on a consistent basis. I admired him dearly. I now feel terrible for taking a leave of absence from EvE to play WoW for the past month. I now have such a huge void when I do login knowing I'll never talk to Andrew again and it breaks my heart.
Andrew was not only a leader, but a father, who talked so highly of his daughter and how he played games and watched movies with her often. He got the name "Rampage" from playing unreal tournament with her, and always said she kicked everyones butts in the servers they joined. It gave him great pleasure when they played and spent time together. She did play eve for a shortwhile as well. His daughter and wife will be in my thoughts daily. I will never forget this man. He was that special to me and many of us. I can only emagine how special he was to those he was closest to. Ramp, Andrew...I love you bro and I will miss you dearly.

Please exept my deepest sympathies. Rampage was a great man. I had the privilage of calling him freind (he even asked me to put this in my bio so that his allaince wouldn't kill me on sight). We happend to be on oppisite sides of conflicts on several occasions, yet when we engaged in combat it was for enjoyment and always part of the game. Rampage was an extremely honorable man and I have a great respect for him. I am mourning with all others mourning due to his untimely departure.

Every day we meet people we beleive we can do with out. Then there are people like Rampage.
I never had the honour of meeting him in game nor in life, but from the posts in this thread it seemed like he was the type of guy that you felt better by just being around.
'Tis a shame that many of us had to hear about him like this.
Rest in Peace, Rampage. An entire world shall remember you.

Edited by: Lady Rainier on 09/02/2005 21:42:53 I am writing this letter in response to the February 3rd death of Andrew Lance. I met Andrew ten months ago online in a game called EVE. In July of 2004 I had the pleasure of meeting him when I went home to Washington to see my family. He lived about two hours from some of my family I was staying with so I decided to meet him. He was very charismatic and just bubbled with joy at showing me what he did at Westport. I sat in his office and watched him deal with the issues and concerns of his job and I was amazed at how he handled them. It was much the same online as well. Those of us who played online with him knew him as Rampage and he touched all of us with the same charisma, love and humor he had at work. He derived his joy in life from bringing joy to others. He had such a great outlook on life and would always try to cheer you up . Many times I can remember him getting after me for being depressed about something or as he put it 'being wussy'. Not only did he touch the lives of those he worked with but also those half a world away in an online game where no one can see your face. I remember when he bought his house and I asked him why he needed such a big garage. He said 'well my daughter is going to be driving in four years'. He spoke of his daughter often and was very proud of her. He will be missed for a long time to come both in-game and to his friends and family. I feel very blessed to have gotten to know him over the past ten months and although it was cut short by such a tragedy I know to all those who loved him and whom he loved he will forever be watching them. Monica Bynum Aviation Ordnanceman Third Class NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA United States Navy
this is a letter i wrote to the editor of the daily world in washington. i wanted them to know the full extent of his impact on people even half a world away. i am still shocked at this tragedy and it will be a long time coming when it doesnt hurt to see his picture.

Edited by: SGE Predator on 09/02/2005 06:51:05 Nice Lady. I've composed a letter to the drunk driver. My first draft was full of anger, and I have decided to hold off sending it. I must say though after writing this letter it relieved A LOT of my anger and mourning pain. I've edited it somewhat but still very direct with some very strong comments. I'm sure he's full of guilt and remorse, he damn well better be but I wanted to let him know just how I and many of us felt.
Andrew's wife was very forgiving, I wish I could be, perhaps I should be. It's why I havn't sent it yet. Towards the end of the letter I am for I'm sure he feels terrible but I wanted to show that his selfishness and stupidity affected a lot of people. I showed some corpmates the 1st draft and they said I should mail it, but I'm waiting to talk to some other people first.
I might after talking to a lot more members post the letter here. If the corp still wants me to send it I'll put it here on this topic to get other peoples opinions, mainly from those who were fortunate to know or fly with Andrew in game, mostly SE members but allies and foes alike. Even those who arn't. The point of posting it here is b/c at the end of the letter I was going to add peoples real names, and hopefully generate a long list to drive the letters message accross.
