Been playin eve for about 4 months. In the last month or so I've noticed my eyesight has gotten slightly worse.
The issue is that my eyesight never changes. I have the same pair of glasses I've had for over 6 years and each time I go for an eye exam, my prescription hasn't increased. And in just 4 months I've noticed more change in eyesight than I have in 6 years.
I play eve on a 15.4" 1080 screen. I could up the resolution but I run an alt and switching back and forth is a lot easier at fixed window mode.
Honestly I respect the age of the game. Back in 2003 there were no high res screens. But now it's just getting ridiculous. I know I'm not the only one who has issues with font size (lots of other threads).
CCP, please don't make my eyes any worse. I seriously have to get new glasses in a few weeks. Haven't had to do that in 6 years!! WTF
I haven't voted for CSM yet. Whoever can promise to work on releasing that UI overhaul and add adjustable fonts gets my vote

Er... I think you mean HIGH resolution.
I mean, I don't think 1280p is en vogue yet...
But yeah, seriously, I didn't even know they made 15" 1080p screens. That's obscene!

But seriously: I have to use reading glasses to play this game.
But then the iPod is not much better. Dark grey text on a black background is just as hard to read as EVE fonts. So even Apple ****s it up.

I cooked 2 video cards on my 17" XPS laptop. The first one was under warranty. The second video card wasn't under warranty, and so I replaced the XPS laptop with a standard desktop that wouldn't cook itself, and had replaceable parts.

anyways i realize that a 15.4" is kinda small for a 1080 screen (HP Envy 15). nonetheless i've had the laptop for over a year now, and never had an issue with small text. troll all you want, but last i checked, people want eve to have adjustable font...

+eleventy miilion on this one.
Eve's fonts, for lack of a better word, are rubbish.
Best you can do is 13point expanded in the Esc options menu.
My eyesight ain't great (two detached retinas will do that to you). I play at 1920x1200, and given most Eve players aren't hyperactive 12-yr olds with 20/20 vision... and that high res screen are a lot more commonplace now than they were in 2003...
TL:DR - CCP needs to get with the program... a larger text size won't break the game, but it will make it easier to read.

Hmmh, I play on 1280x1060, but a 19 inch screen, I guess the size is probably most important, so you don't have to lean forward to read something :P Although I could tweak it up a bit, but I like it this way.

You can get great large monitors for under two hundred smackers these days. There's really no excuse! Unless of course you don't have two hundred smackers, in which case I sympathise and suggest you get thicker lenses on your glasses. If they also cost two hundred smackers, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas...

Yeah no problems here on a 30". Eyes bleeding? Hardly. It's a high res, but it's also a very big screen so the pixel pitch is fairly normal (and even slightly higher than Tippia's 27). It's just like a normal screen with more area. OP's issue is using a very high res on a tiny screen. --

I don't think the OPs screen is really that high a density. Old thinkpads had 1600x1200 in 15 inch screens. I think Eve needs better support for larger font, it's a real problem.
I've actually came to the same conclusion as the OP. I've spent thousands of hours squinting at small text doing industry and trading over the past 5 years, and my eyesight has definitely gotten worse (21 y.o., still young). It's probably computer use in general, but still... I have a feeling it's just part of the life of an eve trader

I tried Eve on one of the new LED Screens, a 37 inch in 1080p
With fonts on as large as they go, I couldnt comfortably play eve from my couch, I STILL have to move close to the TV.
problem is that the font on most of the UI doesnt change either.
so I agree... at first the font was a problem just for the few whiny people, then as the years have passed by it became an great annoyance for most people. And Now its just a massive problem for anyone who upgrades to the now industry standard 1080p
Even on my own screen I find that I cant really play eve for more than a few hours I get head ache's and then I get back aches because im always straining forward.
Time to fix this CCP? Id vote for any CSM member that puts this on the agenda ;)

@OP: You're getting *EYE STRAIN* (at most) from having a small screen with "HD" resolution pushed onto you my marketing gimmicks. If you play Eve, or otherwise work with a screen for many hours, it pays you to have a larger screen with a suitable native resolution.
Your eyes are getting worse because you're aging. Sucks, but it's true.

I would recommend getting at least a 32" 1080p panel if you can afford it then even at 1920x1080 you can easily read the fonts.

I wish people wouldn't adopt marketing-speak when describing resolution.
Anyway, it's true that there needs to be an option for substantially larger UI text, and the font itself needs to be tweaked to eliminate the confusion between certain letters, numbers, and symbols. _____________________________ [Sebiestor tattoos and Intaki hair: NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER.] |

Forget it.
We had been complaining about the font size and font itself (O vs 0, 1 vs l, etc) since the beginning of EVE and we had been ignored. CCP just refuses to comment on the issue.
Only thing I can think of is to set your resolution smaller.

It is really sad that computer monitor standards are dependent on TV standards.
I ran UXGA for years with no Issues (high res screen), now all my screens are QWXGA which are all look great for EVE as well.
I will admit the font is not the best. It is not about the size of the font but rather spacing between characters. Changing the font to this forums font would make a huge difference.
Also putting a monitor in anything other then its native resolution will make it blurry. Sometimes it is hardly noticeable but the blur is there.
On the bit of your eyes getting worse because of EVE, I seriously doubt it.

Eye focus is a function of eye muscles.
If you wear glasses, it's comparable to using a cane for your legs. People who use canes eventually end up using walkers. Eventually they end up in wheelchairs.
I have known old codgers who refused to use canes, walkers, etc, and they walked on their own two legs until the end (*live in Florida for 9 years and you will have known enough oldsters to see a pattern). Others who did what the doctor ordered spent their last year or two in hospice being wheeled around by orderlies.
When I was 14 they said I needed glasses. Hogwash. I was a powerlifter and knew how muscles worked, and how the eyes focus with muscles. I ignored them. It's a scam: get glasses, eyes get weaker. Years later, you need a new prescription: more $$. They put flouride in water to prevent cavities and it causes dental flourosis - the teeth get brittle and can break. Another scam. See the pattern?
In the armed forces they said I had 20/30 vision and gave me glasses to fix that. I got away with refusing to wear them in basic training because even the drill sargeant thought it was ridiculous to have glasses for 20/30. I never wore them.
I am over 40 and still don't need glasses, and I stare at monitors all day, and play Eve too. My vision has actually improved over the years.
The OPs problems is that he fell for the scam. Drop the glasses, let the eyes get stronger. Case closed.
