I rarely chime in here, and when I do it is generally a failed attempt to troll. I do have my own thoughts on this subject though.
First off, blobs and jump bridges are two completely seperate issues. With this topic being about jump bridges folks have decided to make the current definition of "Blobbing" revolve around the 1000man defense fleets. When it suits these same people they define it as the 100, 50, or 25 man roaming gang. Basically what people are saying is if one fleet is larger than another then its a blob. Well, don't engage if thats the case. Personally I prefer the 20-50 man roaming fleets, I feel that the result is a more meaningful fight, with pvp prowess determining the outcome. The massive sov defense fleets are a call to arms, to defend home space. The reason those "blobs" reach the numbers they do, as opposed to the normal roams put up by the same alliances is that everyone(well lets be real, some are just leeches) wants to be involved with defending home or aquiring new space. This includes miners, carebears, builders, and more types of pilots who would normally not fleet up hopping in a drake or a Battleship and contributing to the cause. Why should those numbers be limited? There are plenty of opportunities for fair fights every day, if you cannot match the 500man fleet one entity or coalition can put up, don't attack them. Those who cliam that Sov warfare in its current state does not require skill are wrong. It requires a different kind of skill, and the battles become more based on an FC's strategy and implementation of that strategy than smaller fights. Just like a war(and yes I know that this is a game, not real life, just making a comparison here!)these massive sov battles generally defer to the side who has the most competant strategist in play.
Removing Jump Bridges will do little to dissaude the blobs, they will still exist, or your definition of them will adapt to complain about whatever form they do take if it did impact fleet sizes. Jump Bridges offer a way to move assets around as do jump drives, remove them and everyone, not only the supposed evil blob, suffer s as a result. Entities that were once focused on purely pvp will need to begin having industry wings to provide the needed wares for battle or escorted freighter convoys will once again be required to supply the front lines.
I do feel there should be some changes, and don't know exactly what they should entail, but removal is a horrible idea.
