I don't understand the appeal of these items. Maybe, if there ever was a time when one could reasonably engage in 1 on 1 PvP, they may have made some sense, but what could their appeal possibly be these days?
I read just recently of a fellow who had some insane amount of isk invested in a Maurader and lost it to gankers in high-sec, concord-be-damned.
Bugger all lot of good that 4 or 5 billion isk worth of fancy gear did him that day.
So why? What's the appeal? Why does this stuff continue to sell for ridiculous amounts of ISK when it clearly is of no use once you are targeted for destruction.............
Or is ISK really become that cheap to buy?

Yeah. Officer items on supercaps can add over 1mil ehp or more, the rarity makes collectors want it, the awesome stat boosts make mission runners gotta have it.

Both replies fail to address the core issue..........high meta, uber setups and even supercapitals all go boom when primaried by the hoardes, so why bother with stupidly, obscenely expensive fittings?
Pointless.
Fat lot of good when your bought-and-paid-for epeen gets a hole and deflates...............

Because for some people they are not obscenely expensive. For them losing 5 or even 50 bil is like bill gates dropping a $100 note. And no its not from botting or rmt its just that easy to make gobs of isk if you have the smarts.

being able to say "lol, so what?" and just buy the same setup again minutes after getting ganked does wonders to your epeen.

so you can do **** like, well... pretty much everything garmon does.
high META vs t2 only can give you more than a slight edge in 1 vs lots fights and let you come out on top.
not to mention that there are a lot of fits that just won't work well with t2 mods, like x-large shield booster fits. ♥

It's not a core issue. Why should expensive mods automatically make you invulnerable to alpha damage? If you are going to fly a pimped mission running ship you should learn how to keep it safe from ganks.
Other than that the obvious answer to using meta 6+ mods is to provide some sort of advantage over regular modules. It's perfectly viable to fit these for pvp or pve as long as you stick to the golden rule; don't fly what you can't afford to lose.
Why the hell am I replying to a dumb shiptoaster though? I must be bored.

So, as I said, ISK is gotten that cheap?
And what of rmt?
If I whip out my Amex and say to CCP, sell me 100 GTC please, they will VERY happily take my real world euros and give me one hundred numbers that I can then split in two and sell for what, 350m each?
Sounds a lot like real world money for ISK to me.
So then, I guess, using that setup, what's a few billion down the drain? Just ring up a few more on the good ol' plastic.
Nah, no advantage over other players there. None at all.

lol. rmt is the most inefficient way to get lots of isk in the game even if you get it 'cheap' from botters. lrn2trade.

It is real world money for isk. The big difference is, CCP gets the money, not the chinese government. That's why people with an IQ larger than their age have no issue with GTC/PLEX and applaud it.
And everyone here is very very sorry that you're not good enough at this game to buy shinies, and have to resort to crying about it on the forums. ♥

Indeed. For just $14.95 a month I can get tens of billions of isk. Now how about that for some cheap isk?

Do they?
Really?
Care to see the string of unpaid CC bills scammers use every day against outfits like CCP? Care to ask them what their charge-back rate is on GTC? While you have them on the phone, see how good they are at finding the actual thieves. Oh, sure, the disposable accounts used to redeem the items are banned, but so what?
You really don't get it, do you?
As for your 'sorry', you can keep it, shine it up real nice and shove it sideways up your nose.
I'd have suggested your ass, but it seems full of spank's peckker.

For pve, those type of mods are pretty much just for show - and for losing to ganks.
However the pvp advantages with some modules like that allow a player to dictate the range of a fight, there are still some players who roam around solo and are smart enough to avoid being blobbed. For those there's a very big advantage using such mods in fights.
The other items like officer cap rechargers etc, well the advantage of those is for capital ships. That extra 1% cap might make the difference between being able to jump your supercap out of system in time - or watching it go pop to a hostile incoming blob.

Billions of ISK are incredibly easy to get without having to resort to paying real life money for it. This is simply a non-issue.

Also, just because you cannot afford do drop a bil or 2 on a module does not mean it is not "worth it." Officer invulns on a Supercarrier add millions of HP per module. Drop 5b on an officer invuln that could save your 20b ship? Sounds worth it to me. -----------------------------------
