Nah, it's all allowed.
But you can say they are a scammer after every message they place in local. That really bugs them, and if you keep it up long enough they'll quit.
In a place like Jita you'd be fighting a deluge, though.

When I first saw that one I looked at it and looked, wondering where the scam was. Almost decided to find out by trial, by pushing the "accept" button. Then noticed the amount was red. Could not believe it took me so long to notice.

I nearly fell for it first time I saw it. If I had had one in my assets I would of certainly had completed that contract. I am glad I too saw it after a few minutes.

It's within the rules... and why the heck ban them, I say, PRAISE them. I cheer for the EVE scammers, because I hate greedy//careless people much more than a spamming scammer. And the tears of stupid people, they're even more delicious than the tears of people getting suicide-ganked.

My only problem with them is the way they proliferate. It's just not good for anyone if conversations and legitimate business are drowned out by them all.

Don't worry, soon you'll be able to see them face to face on the station, and punch them in it.

Ill take 3 of each please.
Eve is a harsh place to live. Don't be greedy.
Also, some people make their living being honest. Chirba comes to mind.

Edited by: Bill Loney on 24/03/2011 08:54:44 Most scams are focused on new people as older players can actually see the scam, newer people do not know what to look for. & judging by nearly all the replies in this post you wonder why eve is becoming stagnant . Nearly all the reviews focused on eve-online actually state that this game is full of scammers and skullduggery which is 100% true, which is why the player base has a pretty high turn over and most of the older players leave or sell, hence why the character bazarr section is very active.
Eve-online is a great game, its a shame the player base let it down so much.

Scamming is part of everyday life in EVE. You need to be vigilant with whom you're dealing with. Next time you'll be more careful. Hopefully.

TBH, the most annoying thing about scammers is having to block them so you can see the legit posts in jita local - that's why i tend to use trading channels, they don't post inthere too much (I guess the people there are generally too clever or something, lol)

I think people should be banned for shotting stuff, buying stuff, flying between places and other game mechanics that are meant to be.

Playing Eve is OUTSTANDING training at spotting scams.
I am 100% certain that "on average" (there will always be exceptions), veteran Eve players are much harder to scam in real life than the average person.
Play nice while you butcher each other.

We were making fun of the scammers in Amarr a few weeks ago. As part of the fun I created a contract for an "Imperial Navy Bestower - RARE! 199M" and was spamming back and forth with an especially annoying guy.
Got bored after 5-10min and moved on. Forgot about the contract. Two days later came back to find it had sold. LOL.
It's hard to blame the scammers with players like that.

The 'scammers' are the dumb and lazy players, in Jita spam anyways.
Since we all know them as the "CNR scam" the "1 Trit scam" the "Elite drone AI scam" etc ...
I mean, really.... change it up a bit. You'd get more hits.

The best way to avoid getting scammed is to follow a common proverb.
If it is too good to be true, it probably isn't.
Alas there are some things that are indeed to good to be true but watch out. Never take from people's cans (especially those that belong to criminals) never keep you ship near a large group of people, and pay attention to prices.

So: how much did you lose?
Ahhh but the clever detective looks for the obvious. Look at his verbage "people who take pride in their scamming of dumb people". If he got scammed, then is he calling himself a dumb person? No no, if he was the one that got scammed, and angry enough to post for a way to ban the scammer, then he would say something like "The stupid scammer made me (the victim) cry."
Now look at his name. "Jitta Allt". Clearly he doesn't want us to know his real name so he's posting w/ forum alt. Conclusion?
You Sir, MR. 'Jitta Allt' have scammed someone who then threatened to get you banned for greifing. We've all been fooled, he's the scammer, and you have all just laid out your support....GET HIM!!!
O ya and scamming (using game mechanics) is legit.

Edited by: Zyress on 24/03/2011 20:28:02 I'm in a corp that was just robbed by one of its officers. I didn't loose anything personally but the corp lost 2 - 3 billion in isk, ships and blue prints. Our corp is fairly new less than 6 months old, and the officer in question was someone the CEO and myself had flown with in various other alliances and corps thru the past 2 years. We thought we knew him well and he was someone we could trust with access to our corporate hangars. He had good industrial skills and we used him to move stuff a lot and in manufacturing. He justifies what he did by saying he was teaching the CEO a lesson about recruiting new players and giving corp hangar access to too many ppl. Well it wasn't a new guy that robbed us and I don't know how you can be using corporate materials and blue prints without having access to them. This was no scam, it was not clever and his justification was bullsh^&. He's a greedy little thief who saw an opportunity to steal a great deal of wealth and was just unconscientious enough to do it.

Yeah, it's not fun when stuff like this happen. Will teach you lot not to be as gullible in the future. Something similar, but worse, happened in my corporation. Worst drama I've ever experienced in a computer game ensued and the guy is now kicked out. But scams and this kind of behaviour in general is allowed when it really should be frowned upon. |
