Players are complaining that our game is horribly coded and difficult to play.
Well, throw in a dev blog about some, fancy concepts that "we're going to make" to keep them waiting and subsribing.
We tried and we couldn't fulfil the promises, and they are now complaining more!
Feed them a fancy video to get them hooked. Don't ever fulfil any promises, son, that will only make the product go stale. We need to keep them dreaming and waiting. It's a slow process, but we're squeezing every bit of money out of them.

i even though about buying a console to play dust, you guys missed your way, you would have been really good on the advertisement business :P
honestly after seeing all the silly videos of the devs on the live stream, and most of the eve trailers i'm amazed.
we can blame them on lots of things, but for doing movies they are really good.
(hope you'll add all these to youtube :p)
if some dev is passing by ; never though about creating a real movie about eve ?

So the eve community where people always so how smart the community is falls for it again? Dont get me wrong, it is a cool vid, but if you think there is any relationship to eve's future, i got some bad news for you. Remember PI? Also had cool vid promising all kinds of stuff that never happened. And that was on a timescale of a few months in the future, this would be years in the future.
(Btw how long do you think people will play a shooter where a few ships that are used as suicide gankers these days (dreads) can kill everyone without counter for them?)

Yes, I'm sure CCP will make it so any random Dread can decide to "nuke it from orbit" at any time, with no cost or risk associated with it, and/or no objective that has to be accomplished on the ground for it to happen. This seems like an excellent game balancing decision.

No it isnt. First of all you know exactly what I meant, again and again ccp made all kind of awesome promises that never happened, this isnt even a promise...
But still then I already explained you, you can know what wont happen without knowing what will happen. Another example for you: I have no idea what will happen tomorrow, but I do know I wont be travelling faster than the speed of light. And yes i just did hint at CCP not keeping promises to be a law of physics.
So in the end nice vid, but for example the Kor-azor invasion of gallente space was imo better.

It's a good trailer don't get me wrong, but there are some issues that irk me.
Facial animations seem stiff as hell. Almost doll-like, really.

It's a similiar problem in the character creator, when a character smiles it creates a bigger impact on the cheekbones then is necessary, and it gives you the "please don't make your character smile" syndrome.
Is this being addressed at all?

The video is CCP's goal, long term. It shows what they eventually want EVE to be, a full sci-fi simulator with many sides and new ways to scam/backstab/kill other people.
It makes no promises nor assurances that this is how everything is going to look, feel or play. Its just their way of showing what the game could one day be. Don't take it as 'this is what incarna is', it might be like the vid one day, but there is obviously a lot of work to be done and massive framework to be put in place first.
In short, come back to the vid in 5 or 6 years and compare it to what EVE is at that time then make a judgement.

They did say that the video was made entirely using the software that is currently available in game. There is no fancy behind the scenes trickery save for the zoom out from the planet surface to the orbiting ship. It is safe to assume that once these fatures become available fully, they will be considerably more polished.

That was probably a joke, but it's not the name of an expansion, just that EVE will live Forever! And it is an idealised imagining of the future, not a detailed roadmap of what's to come.

Lot of people thinking this will take forever but if you break the trailer down it is essentially a matured Incarna + Dust. Dust... I don't really care about much. Incarna with ganking isn't that far off in my mind. Probably about a year. Once we're walking in stations with other players, which is the expansion after next, probably one more expansion until we can gank in them. And by then, Dust had better be out if they want it for this generation of consoles.I think what we are seeing is Eve in 24 months. And realistically all the Incarna bits in 12.

Seriously, what kind of plot was that? Let's hire ground troops to capture a planetary base and then just wipe out both the hired mercs and the base with an orbital strike. Why even bother *hiring* a ground assault if you're just going to nuke everything with a 10 second ortillery strike? How many freighters can you fly through that plot hole?

Look, I'm all for constructive criticism. Unfortunately this is not it.
You are right though, never expect to do exactly what you see in the trailers, CCP's plans for world domination/presents is a lot of pipedreaming for now. I think most of this trailer is just an overview of their goals.
This is what I think they want to do
-Incarna (Obviously)
-Dust 514 (Again, obviously)
-Interaction between EVE and Dust, perhaps through Incarna.
-Possibly being able to affect Dust battles from EVE in a more direct fashion. Calling in air strikes from eve players?
-Possibly some kind of possibility to cause harm to other eve players in Incarna? I doubt this means turning it into a shooter though. Hopefully.
This is just MY interpretation on the goals of CCP. Assuming we will be able to blow away battlefields in Dust from eve or whatever is just silly.

- Dread looks like it might be hitting the plannet with dread-rails? Ok this is is quite a cool idea and might re-invent Dreads, which are currently sucking a bit.
- FPS pistol attack in station. In the video is awesome but FFA pistol-shooting in stations could be turd, could be cool, depending on the mechanics of it. A classic FPS point-n-shoot mode would be lame but maybe some kind of ability to 'assasinate' or kill with consequences could be ok. If done right.
- Station windows. Yeah they would be nice. I do like that idea.
- All the Dust stuff... when is this actually due to hit the shops? It's been a year since all the fancy Dust stuff at the last FanFest, what's new in this area?
- Nuke-from-Orbit. Probably cool if you like Dust - maybe its the Dust equivalent of a DD?

The most defficult part of Incarna, the avatars, animation, and customization, is done. As is their system for building maps and areas (we'll see it in in a week or so on Sisi). It's not much to go from there to multiplayer areas and pistols.

You poor bugger, the atmospheric flight video was fake as was made clear at the 2009 fanfest by CCP Hellmar I believe. It was put together by an unkown member of staff as nothing more than bit of fun and was shown at fanfest as a joke. There is in fact a solid piece of EVE canon that rules out the possibility of taking any of our spaceships in to an atmosphere, and that is that tritanium is apparently explosive in an atmoshpere.

Pretty pictures and trailer... but if this update is going to be anything like the last three updates we will probably just be dissapointed.
Dominion: Awesome trailer / ****ty expansion that filled the game with lag
Tyrannis: Pretty cool trailer / PI clickfest introduced.. and not much else
Incursion: Another awesome trailer / We got uhh.. new char portraits and pve half the community didnt' want?
All three riddled with bugs some of which still aren't fixed.
I'd say this new expansion will most likely follow the same trend. Cool, shiney pictures followed by a "meh" update.

If I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be) the "Employer" is watching an overview of the battle and it looks like things are about to take a serious turn for the worse, and armored division has reinforced the area his DUSTIES are attacking.
Since the whole point of hiring DUST players is to take an area without destroying the infra-structure, and since that apparently is NOT going to happen in this case, the "Employer" has 2 options.
1: Go ahead with plan A and commit the (presumably expensive) close air support units he just promised, although that looks like a risky (and costly) gamble at that point. And honorable "employer" would have taken the risk, if for no other reason than to honor his agreement and at the very least help cover his hired mercs retreat.
2: Or cancel the promised close air support, cut your loses, and institute plan B... namely nuke your competitor from orbit hopefully before they have a chance to react. Of course this option loses the existing infra structure, your hired mercs, and your honor... but it eliminates the competition for the resource you wish to harvest and you don't waste money throwing reinforcements away in a futile effort. Presumably it also maintains the element of surprise as even in EVE your opponent may not expect you to throw away your living pawns quite so mercilessly.
We don't know if the girl is the main characters competitor, or if she is someone connected to the Mercs keeping an eye on him in case of a double cross.
Either way, it doesn't end up well for him... or apparently for his ground bombarding Dread. 
Makes me wonder if they were at war with each other, if they were in low or null sec, or if by chance ground bombardment in high sec will allow in-space retaliation from the attacked party. Now wouldn't that be interesting.

Of course, with him no longer in a position to oversee things directly for a bit (being in a clone tube most likely elsewhere) he won't be able to keep an eye directly on the rapidly deteriorating situation his Dread is in.
Clone or not, a bullet in the brain pan tends to send a fairly clear message (and it's hard on the implants).

idiot, most of that stuff is real time, you can even see the polygon edges on the characters, the only thing which might have been enhanced are the sprites and textures.
also, do you even know what CGI stands for?, do you want a drawn trailer instead, as CGI stands for Computer Generated Images
Also, whats up with half the posters in this thread not getting the point and getting bitter over various expansion trailers? This is not a trailer for an expansion, its a video showing the dreams of the Devs behind Eve, its a trailer that shows what they would want eve to be in the future.
Also, some dude commented on the facial animation again, its real time. You might want to read up a bit on 3D, Animation and Game Engines before making comments like that. But if you think you can do a better job, im sure that CCP has a job opening for you.
At least give the devs their due credit for making an engine that is capable of making trailers of this quality.

As was stated very clearly at the fanfest, shortly before and again after this video was shown, CCP explained that the it was made using Incarna as it stands on their in house system, DUST 514 as it stands at the moment and of course EVE. It would seem that the only part of the video clearly added in using after effects was the pull back from the planetary surface of DUST 514 up in to orbit in EVE. If you had paid any attention to anything that was said you could have avoided looking like a gigantic arse.

Clearly you've not up to speed with the relationship between normaly humans (such as the mercs on the planet...and more or less everyone else in New Eden) and Pod Pilots.
We're functionally immortal, they aren't. And as far as we (and fluff) are concerned, their lives aren't worth a damn. You are aware there are little randoms running about on players ships right? Now think about how many ships you've destroyed or lost. Well if you aren't aware, it just further anchors the concept... Regular people in New Eden either hate or fear us, generally a mixture of the two. We have a psychotic disregard for human life and a ficklness that rivals anything you care to compare it to.
If I (as a capsuleer) had hired a group of mercs for some ground assault and then it stopped being convenient and I had to leave, sure I'd nuke the site from orbit to deny my opposition, whoever they may be, whatever it was we were fighting over. Fairly straight forward to me.

Yes I recognize the avatar faces and the ships ..
But ... space marines? Walking in stations? Command and conquor like vehicles? Planet surfaces? Characters with guns? Orbital bombardments?
Most of these featuires aren't even planned or announced and most will never be. Gameplay wise it's not representative for EVE at all, the only thing we actually have is the spaceships. The current correlation between game and vid is about 0.01.

Next step is adding a racing circuit for each planet so we can play an automotive simulator aswell
Ofcourse players could bet and earn ISK prizes against NPC or real players.

If people like you have so little faith and are SO determined to bad mouth CCP and EVE, why on earth are you even here still? I am an optimist I admit but I'm also a realist, CCP are a business and want to make a profit and the only way they are going to continue to do so is to expand the EVE IP and bring out new IP's. DUST514 will come out and I have high hopes for it to be a success, as well as World of Darkness.

You're misreading. She said the vid will never come true, not that she disliked EVE, and as far as I know it's never even been said by CCP that they will integrate Dust and EVE like that (as in the promotional movie) at all. It's just a show off of the engine and the name EVE Forever is a bit misleading, better would have been Carbon Forever.
There's been a lot of fanfests and history has learned that most of the ideas are (very) far future ideas, things that may or may not happen or in a totally different way. It's often just a presentations of ideas, not neccessarily things that are planned.

It seems people have difficulties reading my posts, so I shall make it clear.
Jennifer, the person I was aiming my posts at (for the most part) was Daniela Darr. She claimed not to be able to see any relevance between EVE and the video, making reference to space marines, etc etc. I correctly pointed out that DUST514 is planned as not just a standalone game but will also expand into the current EVE IP.

This I also corrected her on, as these features are well into both planning AND production, which should be obvious to everyone since we now have proper Avatars rather than the cartoony ones we used to have. These Avatars are all a part of the Incarna release, the first chapter of which is the bulk of this summers release.
The bulk of the rest of the video centres around DUST514, a project that was announced quite a while ago, has been in progress for some time and has even been demoed at fanfest. Hell it even has its own "coming soon" website, how much more "announcing" do you think something needs?
As for my annoyance with the negative nellies posting here, that was not aimed so much at Daniela as it was at the other people posting both in this thread and in others. These people seem to have nothing positive to say about either EVE as it is, as it will be nor of CCP. It boggles my mind why someone would take the time to make negative posts such as these on the forums of a game they seem to despise. Its not even as though they are attempting to make constructive posts or threads about ways to improve the game, they just want to drag everyone else down to their level.
Hopefully I have made myself a little clearer.
