I am wondering why you never hear much about PVPing with Marauders. Is it the sensor strength drawback? I also thought it could be that when the cost of a ship gets that high, people just opt for faction ships. I'm not that experienced in high end PVP, perhaps someone could enlighten me.

They aren't that much better than T1 in DPS terms They cost 600 mil plus and the insurance is a joke Active tank bonuses are next to useless outside a few very specific scenarios.
So in essence, blech. ---------- Who, me? |

They also have ****-poor sensor strength, making them easy to jam. I think T1 battleships have better sensor strength... ***** ***** ***** *****

Aside from the valid points already made, I think people feel their isk would be better spent on faction/pirate BS. Most faction BS's are cheaper and provide similar DPS, whereas pirate BS generally have a designated role in pvp (bhaalgorn neuts, macherial speed). Marauders would probably be more useful if they were more analogous to their cruiser-sized counterparts.

the tractor beam bonus should have been an hint :)
can't be insured while not performing any specific bs role better than an t1 while costing 600mil more.

If Marauders had more PG/CPU to make them truly versatile you'd see a lot more of them in PVP.
As it's now you cannot fit 4 guns and 3 heavy neuts onto them without seriously gimping your fit.

Why would you, Bhaalgorn for example does a better job in everything Can easily fit 3 neuts and 4 pulses, doubleweb, huge buffertank etc etc And all of that is bonused aswell, + it's less likely to be jammed

Designed for PvE.
If you want iPWN hulls for PvP look to faction.

The only reason I can think of for using marauders for pvp is the golem if you want to use torps with a bonused explosion velocity and range on a bs hull.
Even then it still wouldn't be worth it.

Pretty sure they have low sensor strength in the first place because they're not intended to be used in PvP. Too expensive anyway, or more accurately, too expensive with no compensation for the expense, PvPwise.
I may just be a dumb carebear, but even I'd know not to PvP in a marauder.

That's what I'm talkin bout! If I had the choice to fly either a stabber/ruppie or a vagabond, I'm gonna fly a vagabond. It costs a lot more, but it's a much better ship overall. If they had t2 variant Maelstroms or Abaddons (say with a massive DPS bonus) I'd totally pay 600mil to fly one in a fleet engagement.

Edited by: Sphit Ker on 29/03/2011 23:01:14 Almost nobody PVP in those because it make no damn sense to do so. Most of the reasons has been stated already.
They can do damn well as aggro harvesters if you setup them for raw tanking like my imaginary(*) 6,500 DPS active tanked Paladin, I guess? That SOB cost more than a carrier to fit so why not just get a carrier instead, eh?

Maybe a siege battleship, T2 BS (based on the mael, baddon, hyper, rokh hulls) that can mount a siege module to become a mini-dread, then again the highsec griefdeccers dont really need any help since the only real use for such a ship would be highsec pos bashing.
I think a dedicated T2 Logi BS would be more useful.

Maurauders, in a word, sucketh. Anywhere they might be useful, they are a plum to steal. Anywhere they are safe, there is no benefit.
I can buy ten ravens or one golem for the same billion ISK (fitted reasonable well.)
Guess which makes me more ISK? DEVS! Please a small color indicator upon jump gate icon that shows color of the system security rating of the destination system in the overview and in the HUD view. Little Fistter |

Despite all this, my Widow got popped by a Kronos on SiSi. Not fail fit or skills imo. I have nearly maxed ECM skills (4/5s in anything that matters) and using 3x meta 4 mods, warp disruptor, target painter, MWD, scan res SeBo, 5x T2 torp launchers. Still couldn't jam him.
tbh, I chose the fight as the pilot was 2007. So I figured it would be a good fight. Wasn't disappointed. He had blasters, neuts, and knew how to use his drones. For solo PvP I think I would have been better off fitting a large smartbomb instead of having the covert portal. Then I could have smartbombed his drones and deployed Vespa IIs instead of sicking my warrior IIs on his drones. Might have made the difference.
With good skills (game and personal), any ship is deadly.

There a PVE ship and out side the PVE invroment there are 99% of the time totaly outclast at PVP by the Pirate faction ships. Its like saying why are hulks not used very offen in PVP and its because thay are outclaset by stuff just like the Marauders.

If you cannot afford it don't buy it, and if it was up to me the hole insurance system would be totaly removed.
Its like anything in eve, something 1% better can cost more than 4000000% more Its wether its worth it to you for the extra 1%

Absolutely. Just fix the sensor strength and give the utility slots a useful bonus, be it neuting or a special anti-cap mod.

WHY? Not every ship in EVE has to be good at PVP. Thay do what thay do [PVE] and thay do it quite well why make them something there not. Nest you will be asking for PVP bonus's on other PVE ships like Hulks. (which is the same dum **** your on about right now) ---------------------------------------------- I fail At forums ٩๏̯͡๏)۶ |
