Hi,
Thanks for the Buddy program I start my eve career with a bit of cash, about 500M. Sure I should be careful not use all this in useless stuff...
I wonder... should I buy a full set of +4 implants? 20M per implant, so about 100M in total... or should i stick with +3 implants for now, about 50M for the full set...
Thanks |

Dont get +4's no point until you get to really long skills. You WILL be podded before you learn how not to be and so even +3 i'd say is a little surpluss. Remember you dont need all 4 plugged in at once, just plug in the +3's you need for a really long skill (you will only really need 2 implants at a time for any 1 skill).
Save the 500Mil, try not to spend any of it. You really can survive fine early on with the money you're making. If you start spending that 500Mil then by the time your done spending it you will feel as if you are making hardly any money. New players really dont need 500Mil at the start and i'v seen it ruin someones experience.

+4's are worth having.
If loss through podding is going to be a possibility, then consider jump clones with +3 implants in.
switch to the jumpclone, and you only lose a small sp/hr training rate .

I would say it depends on the circumstances: While podding is an ever-present possibility, actually getting killed is rare.... IF you stay in hi-sec, avoid certain hotspots like Jita and the likeliness of smartbombing suicide gankers, don-¦t mine, don-¦t go AFK and are generally sensible and assume that everyone is out to get you.
Then again, money is pretty easy to come by, so 50 mil can be earned with very little difficulties and - as said above - as a new player you should not have a lot of expenses, so you could go with a set of +3s for two weeks or however long you need to get accustomed to this game before going for +4s.... keep in mind as well that training time is the one thing that cannot really be bought and any waste here is lost forever. I'd recommend getting +3 implants to start with. When you know enought not to get podded I would get some free jump clones from EACS. Then you can fit those +4 in a new clone and use the old +3 clone if you go do hazardous stuff like PVP or lowsec/nullsec travel. If the +3 clone gets blown up its no biggie as you still have the +4 clone.

Stick to +3s and when you know your game and have the income for it, maybe +4, it's always easier to get the ISK for implants than catch up the time lost in skill training without them, but it should remain affordable. However, at the very start of your career, they won't make a huge difference in learning time, especially on x1 skills. Implants make a real difference on level 5 for low ranked skills, and 4+5 on the higher ranked skills, for most skills trained in the first year, level1 to 3 won't make a terribly drastic difference. I'd stick to +3s and save the ISK for other stuff. "haiku are easy, But sometimes they don't make sense, Refrigerator." |

Thanks for all the tips. I'll not use EACS services though as I do not want to leave CAS anytime soon, but in CAS someone offers the same service except that we do not have to leave our corp, she uses a rorqual for this... |

If you intend to stick to high or low sec, go for the +4s. Warp bubbles are the #1 cause of podding, and they can't be deployed in low or high sec; Unless you're afk when your ship pops, you'll always be able to warp away fast enough.. (Unless you wander into a smartbomb spamming battleship low sec gate camp...
If you intend to visit null or WHs...I'd still suggest getting +4s and just hop into a jump clone with +3s before you head to null/W-space.
I personally got +4s early in my career and haven't regretted it one bit. In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse. |

Time to roll an alt that is in CAS and fit a tackle frigate. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Neo didnGÇÖt learn Kung-Fu by having it sit in his usb drive.-á If it moves, shoot it. If it doesn't move, poke it with your gun and then shoot it. We are not running, we are advancing in the opposite direction |

Cause such service with the Rorqual is just asking for an alt to pass by and get tackle on it so your main with his friends can jump/warp in and start shooting.
Don't get me wrong, I like the service that person is offering. But personally won't just let every player and his mom and dog get near my 2.5+ bil ship. Making jump-clones requires the Clone Vat Bay.
Specs of that:
When active you become immobile (means can't move, warp or dock). Cycle time is 300 seconds (aka 5min)
Plenty of time for things to go from bad to 'Oh shite, how do I get out of here'.
Only other option I can think off is that the Rorq is in a Player corp (main - alt idea) and that he opens up the POS where the Rorq is sitting in for the clone installation. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Neo didnGÇÖt learn Kung-Fu by having it sit in his usb drive.-á If it moves, shoot it. If it doesn't move, poke it with your gun and then shoot it. Well, if you live in Amarr, you have the option of going down to Providence, specifically 1-1I53 or ZT-LPU. The Yulai Fed stations offer freedocks and jump clones costing 100,000isk each last I checked. Use a T1 fast frigate. No need to leave corp or go through other hassles.
P.S Don't be afraid of nullsec. SAK (Caldari NPC corp) used to organize lemming newbie fleets during my time. We'd all get into some cheap T1 stuff and ran around nullsec until everyone died. |

Null can be dangerous but its also fun.
Suggestion: if you have an cpone without implants, fit a cheap frigate and just take a look. All you might loose is a cheap ship and a clone which inst too expensive to update again at this stage. I'm just saying since you're brand new and implantless, shrug off what CAS people say about null, go see for yourself, chat up with people you may encounter and make your own mind. Don't think null is dangerous, you get podded everyday and there's nothing to do for a newb there because a guy said so in CAS corp chat. Go hit a gate camp several times and you might even earn a free ship and a pass for a tour. "haiku are easy, But sometimes they don't make sense, Refrigerator." |

Mine ark for couple of hours and you will know why. But as with most eve stuff, the higher the risk the better the payout. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. I have +4's on Xuixien's learning clone and +5 on my alt's learning clone. I used +3's for the longest time, but once I decided to stop being cheap I started kicking myself in the arse for not using higher grade implants sooner.
That said, +4's will turn a 12 hour long train into a 10 hour long train. The change is substantial and can save you a couple of days out of the month. +5's, on the other hand - not much of a return on investment. They'll change a 12 hour long train into maybe a 9 hour 50 minutes long train - not much of an improvement over the 4's. Stick with the 4's. Rabble Rabble!! Rifterlings is currently recruiting frigate and cruiser pilots for LowSec/NullSec small gang PvP and FW. Newbies and veterans alike are welcome.

I roam low sec all the time and keep a full set of +4s installed. If I were to ever head to null or a WH, I'd hop into a clone with just two +3s in the two stats that I'm training at the moment to keep my potential losses minimal. +1s or +2s if my planned trip to null/WH was going to be brief.
In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse. |
