I've added a metric to the killboard I wrote to categorize fleet sizes for kills. It's set to the following:
- 1 pilot = Solo
- 2 - 9 = Small Gang
- 10+ = Blob
So sizes beyond the single digits is a blob currently. Probably a bit conservative. Want to see what your thoughts are on this. Here's an example from the site showing a pie chart based on the above:

Personally wouldn't consider 10+ a blob. Seems pretty small scale still. I would think maybe 30-40+ |

The proper definition of "a blob" is "your fleet + 1" |

A fleet is considered a blob at the point that the losers of the engagement feel the need to blame something other than tactical failures for their loss.
That's really all there is to it.

Blobs are relative. They are simply larger-than normal but disorganized (in discipline, experience, composition, or any combination thereof), which relies on simply having more members in order to win, rather than on actual competence of individual pilots. People typically accuse blobbing when they encounter what feels like a disproportionate response -- and especially when that disproportionate response is completely ineffective.
For example, If you take a 2-3 man assault frigate gang into Providence, the response will be a 20 man BC and T2 cruiser blob that will fail to catch you in the most hilarious ways possible. However, if you take a 20 man BC gang into Provi and you get the same response from them, that is not blobbing.

According to your metric, i.am blobbing if I bring a fleet of 30 to kill a pos, station, or other sov related structure. That seems to he a conservative definition of a blob. And RvB combat cam easily hit 35 vs 35 man fleets.
I would argue that you need to have small, medium, and large fleets.
Medium should be what you define as large. Large would be 30-50, blob would be 50+. This would cover larger fleet engages, without throwing blob at every fight.
Heck, how many squads are the max allowed in a wing? Wouldn't a blob have to be larger than a two wing fleet? |

Thanks Lady - your point is well taken and I think most likely I'll go with it. I like the relative blob definition more however there isn't enough info in the kill mails to solve that equation - i.e. ratio of one side vs the other.
