What kills me is when someone asks for opinions and then blasts anyone who gives them. Gets me every time. If you know so much, why ask for opinions at all? Obviously you know more than we do.
At any rate, my sp count is irrelevant. This character was started as an alt, and has since become my main. Go figure.
Making isk? How much could you possibly need? All the expensive stuff (Orcas, Carriers, et al) are meant to be group efforts, supported, flown, and created/bought by corporations to fill a need. As far as standard "solo" ships, in honesty, the skills are paced so, before you are PROPERLY skilled for a larger ship, you should be able to afford it through using it's predecessor in it's designed role. This stands true for mining and missioning.
I have, however, started a new character in the past month. The new player experience is easy compared to the "old" player experience. REALLY easy. It took no time at all to be in a decently fitted rifter, with a bit of jingle in my newbie pockets and on my way to covops ships on that character. Get over yourself, it's not that difficult. And no, the other character gets no support from my older character. Frankly, I'm a poor vet in eve, having sold off my old characters and donated the isk when I decided to take a break. Coming back from break (read: I missed it and decided to resub) I'm starting my little empire over with only a covops, hulk, and battleship to my name, with a bit of startup cash. I am currently enjoying the challenge of rebuilding my fortune which, not to toot my own horn (TOOT TOOT) was not small at one time.
As far as "can't do everything my first day out".... why would you want to? I have ship capabilities spanning from battleship to orca. In the past I've been a carrier pilot and dread pilot. I've seen and been involved in titans exploding in nullsec, battles large enough to crash nodes, pirate corps moving to nullsec to take their chances there, and lowsec piracy (probably the most enjoyable, to be honest). None of that happened overnight. The feeling of working towards those ends was the best, not actually doing that job at the time. Quite frankly, dread piloting is the cure for insomnia, and carriers get used as high-tech haulers more often than not. What's so romantic about these jobs? (yes, they're jobs, we belong to corporations that expect a return on investment)
In Eve, it starts with "who am I?" and ends with "I did that". If you don't know who you are in this game, or don't know who you want to be, then that's a personal problem. This game doesn't support Alt-Character ADD. It supports an identity you take an make your own. I suggest you watch the intro movie again. Who will you be? If you don't know, we can't help you.
