Something that I always thought of to this day...
Back when I was beautiful, I was roaming the local Low Sec system which doesn't get too much traffic. I am aware of a pirate hub a few jumps away and another to the north but they come to the area about once a week.
Anyways, I was roaming solo in my Arbitrator when I saw that someone was in local. I warp to a belt and see a Hurricane about 50km off. I warp away and leave system. I return shortly to find the Hurricane still in system. I wasn't confident of my ability to engage a Hurricane in an Arbitrator. I fly them well but not well enough to engage a Hurricane. I warp out again and rush to where I kept my Zealot and come back. Sure enough, the Hurricane was still in the system and I finally engage.
I kept range from the Hurricane due to my MWD and after 5 minutes, the Hurricane finally pops. The pod, however, doesn't warp off and sits there until I get my disruptor on it. After a nice talk with the Hurricane pilot about not calling for reinforcements or a gang, I decided that I couldn't really pod them and unlock the pod as they warped off. I could have easily podded them, collected a corpse and add another notch to the nose of my Zealot but I choose not to.
A while later, I see a cyno field go up in another system while roaming in my Harbinger. I warp to it to find a Stealth Bomber sitting there who greeted me in local. I target and wait for a second before unlocking. This was an active cynoboat. Was this really a kill worthy of gloating about? I then warp off to a gate and nearly catch an Impel but oh, well...
Does this make me a bad pirate? I had two easy kills that I could have easily added to my board but chose not to.

Your risk for reading is your punishment, then.

If the answer is zero, then I wouldn't worry your pretty little head about it... it was probs just cos you had the painters in. Now pop the kettle on treacle and make us a nice cuppa, huh?
Quite the opposite, really. I find nothing more enjoyable than scramming a n00bs pod and then give a speech on how I am going to take their corpse to Asgard.

Then I'd say you have nothing to worry about. Probably just a phase. Do take care though and don't let these moments of mercy become too much of a habit.
It was awhile ago.
Less than a week ago, a n00b asked me not to kill them. I merely replied that I was the Spear that smites Evil and that their soul will not be permitted to Asgard.
I got some pretty interesting tears where they called me the **** of Loki.
