When the Echelon was introduced it was speculated that it, and it's special codebreaker module, would have a use as part of the Incursions. Has anyone found such a use? Master of the (Orca Class) Deep Space Exploration And Mining Vessel "Long Shot" |

Lol, key word was speculated. It's a hack craft, with a named codebreaker, and absolutely no use if you don't have a fleet to make sure you don't get popped by rats while trying to hack the can... I've used mine once or twice on ops in lowsec, but given the ship does nothing else (i'll admit that I've found yet) it's kinda like a trophy. Was there ever a use for the Zephyr or other than having a special hold for a command center, the primae? They (again as far as I know) are thankyou gifts to the players and meant as ltd. edition tropies...
Or I could be wrong...

The Zephyr does have a minor role as a "lore tourist vehicle" since it will not be attacked by Sleeper drones and has a special probe launcher (in contrast to a pod which will also not be attacked by Sleeper drones). Some wormhole sites, such as The Mirror, require you to get within 5600m of the structures in order to trigger pop up windows. So that means discoveries can be made without having to first clear a Class 6 anomaly.
As for the Echelon... I'm not sure what the expectation should be. I dont mind specialized ships but it is maddening that no blueprints are seeded. What happens when incursions are still running three years from now? Are newbie players SOL since they wont have access to an Echelon? Maybe I am misunderstanding something about the Devs intentions.
-------------- Indecision is a terrible thing.
...or is it?

No problem, any ship with a codebreaker can access the cans in Incursions that require them, or so I hear. So really, the Echelon was just a neat bulbous ship with a spinny bit, that like any ship can be replaced with others for the task.

They couldve given it some edge to - like "sansha incursion rats wont attack it" or something. But then again they would get used, expencive due to limited supply and eventually suicide ganked for the lols by bantams...

I recently used one in 'Right To Rule' - the Amarrian Epic Arc. If you follow the sansha path towards the end you need to hack a structure in low sec and you need level 4 skills to unlock it and I'd foolishly only trained mine to level 3. I just happened to have an Echelon nearby which allowed me to hack the structure (after clearing the rats).
OTOH, I could have just thrown a frigate together with some Memetic Algorithm Bank rigs and got the same effect in a less expensive package. Spaceships! |

I never used it in an incursion, but once in null a can spawned in an anomaly which required a codebreaker to open. I was able to use the echelon to get the loot.
