Still, danger is what makes eve fun and exciting so in some microscopic way you're still adding something I suppose :)
Well when we are afk, we are not wasting our life and time... electricity perhaps.
And people that are afk might even have a job, which means the electricity bill is trivial. So everyone's a winner.
Silly suv driving soon-to-be-slaves, that wasn't really the point :p

oh yes, I know exactly, what you're talking about. I too trained up afk covert cyno cloakers on my industry/trading/scam/scap (or other with rarely used mains) accounts, so I can log in them always I dont need the main for maxing out my paid playtime usage. That was a waste of the monthly fee otherwise, wasn't it?
not really. To be afk cloaker you need to be logged on. So you can't use your alts on the same account. And i can use them =) Main is off and alt is hauling tasty stuff over the empyre.
This is the difference.

Local facilitates fleet fights. When two fleets want to go at it, local works in everyone's favor. It doesn't facilitate ganks.
Also local makes gates usable by anyone.
When local is be disabled i'm pretty sure next week or about all the gates in 0.0 space will be covered by thousands of warp-disruptor bubbles. Because it is alot simplier and safer to do it than watching gates 23/7. Warp-distuption bubbles covered gate + 1 cloaked scout = secured bears. Good luck gankers! You will be not able to catch any carebear from this moment. Or you will use ONLY SBs or T3 ships even for tackling!
Main target group for removing local is gankers living in WH. Only them will have profit from ability to enter system undetected. 0.0 bears will have bridges. JB network will growth very fast. So bears and 0.0 locals will have good traveling method.
But invaders from low-sec or enemy 0.0 space will have real problems with traveling around enemy territory because of warp bubbles.

I wish there were more victims with this attitude :-/
To be fair, mission runners don't have a lot to fear from our SB shenanigans. If they know you're in an SB typically the only ones freaking out will be the miners and BS drivers.
Of course, if they don't know what you're in the assumption is T3 and everyone competent is on their guard. Luckily, that's a small group in this game. ---

Edited by: tika te on 29/04/2011 22:29:21 afk cloakers have to much influence on systems in 0.0 - fitting cynofield gens makes it far to easy to hotdrop freighters etc. u simply can't allways provide counter hotdrop escort - the whole corp would be busy on escorting; all this just because ONE afk cloaker. just give cloaking device an cycle of about 45-60 minutes and an reactivation delay of 10 minutes after that - ofc logofski fixed..(perhaps not the perfect idea, but it's a start..) then u still can do some cloaky-ganking-tactics but can't abuse the gamemechanics while afk. (i'm allways surprised how people often don't have any sense for fairplay in onlinegaming: u want to kill so? go an do it "face to face"..aehm..."hull to hull"..

Putting a cycle time on a cloaking device would stop people from switching it off until the cycle said they could.
Also, afk cloaking is a valid strategy. You don't hear Mohammed *****ing about the sniper whose camped outside his house for 6 weeks, do you?

Edited by: Falgoria on 02/05/2011 05:57:43 1. Someone AFK cloaks in your system 2. move a system over 3. they come into your new system 4. laugh as they aren't actually afk.

Technically speaking, the game mechanic being abused is using local as an intel tool instead of a chat channel. There's no rule that prevents a player from logging into eve and then idling indefinitely

I want to come in and fight you, but everytime I enter system you warp away to a pos, no fair :(:( no fair.
In love and war everything is fair.
You want to live in outlaw space, then be prepared to fight for what you have.
