Also a lot of the problem is high sec people don't go to low sec because they can go anywhere in high sec and avoid it currently (well except solitude).
Split up the main high sec empires with low sec in-between. Add a few more high sec and 0.0 entry points to reduce the gate camps a little and there'd be more traffic (with a lot of entry points gatecamped high sec people see that and think it's everywhere and never return).
It might even give each empire a proper trade hub instead of one huge one (jita) if they became independant islands of high-sec.
S'Way is making great sense. This ⇑ fixes lowsec, imho.

the idea behind what I suggested is more of an optional "helper" mechanic than anything else. it might or might not improve it all a bit, but the single purpose is, as I said, to remove some of the "fear factor" that losec has.
granted there are many things that can be done to improve losec, just like in hisec and null.
I do like your idea btw. ---

Edited by: Twylla on 04/04/2011 07:11:20 Lowsec got the way it is by bad business. It's not just about ransoms, but economic and social relationships are completely thrown aside for the sake of simply blowing up everything that moves.
For all the trouble of being 'at risk, all the time', there are zero benefits now that all the game mechanisms are now in place to guarantee that you will be found, locked, and sent home (improved probing & mission zone probing) before costs can be recovered. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~7

I don't get this mythos that lowsec is a crater-riddled war-zone devoid of all life except blood-thirsty mutants. I spend most of my time in npc 0.0, which by all accounts is just as crap for income and twice as dangerous (podding, bubbles, hotdrops from your sov. neighbors), but you rarely see us complain about it.

Just comments made by people who don't even live there or have anything to do with lowsec on a dayly basis. They might have heard their friends talk of it and just repeating what they might have heard...or killed once they tryed and lost their iteron. It's people like that that add to the already bad rep of lowsec. Yes, you will find camps in there, and people will try to kill you, but isn't that what it's all about to???? A lawless area where attacking others is allowed????? Ever heard of using scouts????
I give up. Will never be able to change the mindset of people who already "know it all" abouth how it is living there. Can honestly say i love my lowsec life and wouldn't change it for anything Ceb The Rustbucket Outlaw |

Edited by: Alonzo Harris on 04/04/2011 07:57:02 Putting all 4 high sec faction on their own high sec "island" has been talked about many times and to me it's a great thing to do, not only for pirates but for traders and entrepreneurs as well. Just as jump bridges make things too easy having one big high sec areas does the same.
Also, piracy has moved from low sec to high sec since ages, it's just that lots of the "cool" pirates (you know, the "if you aint -10 you aint worth crap" type) refuse to adapt to that.

Edited by: Bellac on 04/04/2011 09:55:53 problem is that low sec is a halfway house that doesn't help anybody; carebears or pirates alike.
Either make it a high sec expansion but with bigger system rats and concord lite (concord but with less bite) or make it a null sec expansion and let peeps have the use of warp bubbles and all the likes but not allow sov control. Or failing that have it a bit of both depending on current sec status.
At he current time low sec is just an annoyance for me while travelling from high sec to null sec. Too scary for the carebears and too limiting for everyone else except the gatecamping pirates.

The only people who think low sec is broken are the people that dont live there.
Low sec is not broken.
Issue Resolved.

again, as I said before in this thread, I do admit that calling it "broken" might be too much.
but improvement is never bad now, isn't it? ---

another idea we know theres a lot of cash cows in 00 we know low sec lacks targets so
how about more low sec systems getting more 00 and othe rlow sec wormholes just to boost traffic flows and make 00 a little bit more dangouers and also create market trading opportuniteis in low sec by opening up passages in from 00 to low sec areas where contracts and items from null sec can be put onto local market - this in turn might encourage more peeps out from high sec. U could also have more high sec into low sec womrholes and less direct high sec to 00 wormholes just to create a flow effect

EVE history would tend to disagree with you. "Bad piracy" has always been around, yet once upon a time, back when mining didn't suck donkey balls and when lowsec mining was noticeably better than highsec mining, lowsec was (looking at percentages of player population) far more populated compared to these "modern times" we're living in now.
You forgot the 800 pound gorilla Akita. Mining wasn't the draw. Unscannable missions were. Want to find out when lowsec died? Just look at about 6 months after lowsec missions were made scannable. Once again no one wants to acknowledge this.

Fix 0.0. Fix NPC 0.0.!
Statistics already prove low sec is more used than 0.0 and NPC 0.0. Fix them first.
