In my experiance getting rid of the rif raf nerd rage population that is always on the fence ready to quit the game over every small offense is a good thing. So I would say quite the oppossite, Eve is going to be living better once enough people quit, in particular people who get their rocks off on posting stupid **** like you.
Traditionally this happens for three reasons.
1. Its a wake up call to the Devs to get their **** together. When the numbers drop, investors start calling and they want to know why they are making less money. The Devs will investigate and instead of the cry babies (like you) they will have their core audiance guiding them.
2. Like the American economy and any inflated system, when it grows to large it becomes broken. Eve isn't broken because the mechanics are not good, its broken because their are two many ******* people and the game (while technically can carry them) cannot support them via its game mechanics infastructure. Their is too much of everything because their are too many people.
3. Old Games Need Maintenance: The problem with Eve is that its a old game that CCP is trying to keep fresh. So they are still trying to do the whole visionary thing by moving forward. Its too late for that. Eve is now an aged game and it needs to go into maintenance mode where the Devs focus on fixing long standing bugs, fixing up mechanics with existing issues and focusing on the game play elements on which the game is founded (like flying in space). When people start quiting, if enough do, they will go into maintenance mode and stop ******* around (though just want to say thanks for the character creation tool in Incarna, I think I got myself to look like Wesley Snipes as intended)
So there ya have it. Go on and quit.. the more quit the better. |

If the "cry babies" you are talking about are those who have been in a uproar over the recent changes, direction, and lack of development then I believe you have who the "core audience" backwards. The ones who are vocal about CCPs mistakes are usually the ones who actually care about the game more then those who stay quiet and let it go under.

Eve is broken because Eve mechanics are broken. Its not just because Eve is inflated, there are many things that actually do BETTER when theres inflated numbers(FW for example), however because of fail development and broken mechanics it actually draws people away from it. Also if a system doesn't scale based off of numbers then it is broken, unless CCP developed Eve to have a population cap they should have planned for raising numbers.

This is another fail ideology. While Eve is a somewhat old game as far as MMOS go, Eve being in a niche market as well as being a sandbox means that age really doesn't matter. Eve is not a standard MMO where once you get the level cap up high enough and released enough dungeons that things start to become redundant and its time to move on.. Eve could easily survive for 8 more years and continue to rise in subs. This would however cause CCP to actually start polishing up the actual core features of the game as well as add more content to keep things fresh.
Eve is far from needing to be placed in maintenance mode. However it seems CCP has a similar ideology and is causing its own downfall.

EVE isn't dying, she's just been neglecting me for a few years and has been seeing two other men in the mean time. It's always been a roller coaster relation but I've been able to deal with that, right now I'm not entirely sure we're still a couple and I get the feeling that she doesn't have a clue on it either so she can continue to let it fester some more resulting in a lot of door slamming, heated arguments and probably ending in some retraining orders, OR she can choose for me without holding back or the need for "ifs and buts", no secrets. If she decides to choose me then it's going to take a long time for her to win back my trust for us to move on but whatever her choice may be she better do it fast cause I won't wait forever.
either way, she better make me some damn sammiches right now. |

2012 will be an interesting year for the game. I predict that Bioware's new game wil pull a bunch of folks out of EvE for a while till they get bored of the themepark. I expect EvE to survive this period, but its gonna be hard on CCP's pocketbooks unless folks stay subbed while they play with laser swords. I expect many folks would unsub their alt accounts and maybe keep a main account running during this time.
It makes me wonder if CCP smells this in the wind, and that's the reason for them focussing so hard on their other MMO title (WoD) right now. |

Still steadily dropping since Incarna.
I'll wager that while they're maintaining their new player turnover / retention there's a lot of disgruntled older players getting fed up with the broken promises and "soon".

String of underwhelming expansions, endless delays of cool stuff, replacing functional borderline decent stuff with wannabe cool semi-functional (or non-functional) junk, long-standing gameplay balance issues, focus on frivolous matters, MISGUIDED AND/OR DISCONNECTED-FROM-REALITY CCP LEADERSHIP RANKS...
...ok, EVE is not about to become dead too soon, but it's certainly in a noticeable decline, and that decline might be accelerating in spite of half-assed appeasement "damage control" attempts. More and more people stop believing the hype and adopt a "I'll believe it when I SEE it" attitude, with optional "and maybe I'll be back then" cancellations.
I, for one, kinda' stopped caring TOO much. I still care a little, but less and less every day. I'll stick around until they close the doors though, because sadly everything else sucks even more. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Contributor_name:Akita_T#Contributions_link_collection |

At most, there was a barely noticeable OCCASIONAL dip, but more often than not, summer average online numbers were actually QUITE HIGH. IN FACT, EVE actually has a "winter dip" that's more pronounced and more regular than any occasional summer dips. And that's when you're looking at cold, hard numbers ( http://jestertrek.blogspot.com/2011/08/some-curves-arent.html ) not at some make-belief or wanna-remember-differently data.
But the drop this year continues. It's not catastrophic, but it's there and it IS noticeable. VERY noticeable.
Quote:and some people might have unsubbed some alts because of the eurocrisis. There was a much more panic-inducing crisis several years ago, and the effect was the exact opposite. EVE is cheap entertainment (1 month of gameplay for the price of a movie ticket), so when it's economic crunch time, MMOs should actually see a GROWTH in subscriber counts, not a dip.

in my opinion EVE is a particular MMO. Not because of its niche market, or its sandbox-ish character, but because the development behind it and CCP. Who would risk to launch a brand new FPS MMOBA (?) linked to a 8 years old game? Someone who's willing to keep such an old fart as up to date as EVE is. I don't dare to prophesy anything, I don't know how the market may move in a few years from now, but CCP's intention is Crystal clear. They want EVE to last fresh and updated even-though you/we're not always sharing their tempo/focus (which I for one do). |

GW II is well over 3 years late. Anyone that complains about CCP as a company and jumps ship for Arena Net is quite the fool.
I'm not here because EvE is a niche game, I'm here because Anet sucks. They killed GW and failed to develop GW2.
Ironically, as bad as people hate WoW, I feel Bliz is pretty damned good. But the game CCP produces is far superior to either, and CCP is right behind Blizzard IMHO anyway.
But then I guess that cancels the irony right out, since people hate CCP so ******* bad they pay 15 bucks a month to come to these forums and verbalize that.
What a crazy business the MMO industry is.
See what happens when fat neckbeards try to ride little ponies? The ponies die. |
