Dear Coplayers, Gms and Devs !
To improve combat skills I propose to add a combat simulator with all available items and ships. Players can combat each other from the beginning with a all lvl 5 simulator char. A good example how its made is a Guild Wars MMOrpg. You skill with your main char in a "maingame" , but can use all skills and weapons in a arena game. This simulator can contain about a dozen different locations. So all players can actually try everything from the beginning and get combat experience.

1v1 a friend/corpie. Keep it friendly, no podding. Want more friendly, first to hull loses and cease fire before they pop.
look up angony unleashed...unless thingsa have changed they run some decent pvp classes I hear.
take pos ship out to low/null. PvP like making an omelette, gonna crack a few ships to learn how to do it lol. Always keep an open mind...you can learn as much from your ship pops as you can from popping other ships.

Supported. This should rise the general level of pvp competency. I can see how highsec griefers don't want their prey to know how to fight.

It you want arena style combat, there's already the test server where you can blow stuff up with no consequence.

no, what might work is a combat simulator that works like real life.
it has to be far from real combat while still teaching eve combat tactics.
For instance. You load up the combat simulator, there are 3 ships to choose form. Frigate, cruiser, battleship.
you can set the AI for the NPC ship, like tackler, or sniper ship. whatever.
No fittings, no skills, not even real damage.
Once your in basicly it stead of damage it would have to use something like a rating system. If you're keeping up transversal it's green. If you fall below transveral or your gun can't track, it goes red. No damage ever happens, there are no hp bars. it's just practice tactics mode. for noobs.
would be a great way to explain transversal velocity, and speed tanking.
no fitting, no skills, no damage. just a real pure combat sim. anything else goes against what eve is about.

This might be the most intelligent constructive response I've ever seen to this question which has been raised many times. A full-blown combat simulation would eliminate the incentive to actually participate in PvP, where risk vs. reward is the whole reason why EVE is more fun in that regard. --- New, buggy features do not attract as many new players as old, broken features turn away existing players. Don't dig yourself a deeper hole by creating new problems before fixing old ones. |

The only incentive of "actual pvp" is kms. And it's not pvp, just blobbing. Full blown combat simulation is fine - zero risk for zero rewards, like test server, but up 23/7 and easily accessible to majority of noobs.

Sorry, losing ships and then say you learn from it is not a argument. . It would mean that a doctor has to kill a few patients to learn how to operate skillfull. Or you have be many times wounded to be a good soldier.
A combat simulator would also greatly improve the learning curve in EvE and that would attract more players. If you buy a expensive car , for example a porsche you should also ve able to drive it, dont you think ? The same is here, if a noob buys his first bs or faction bs he should be able to operate it skillfull.
In a combat simulator you can fight also against friends but your succes should be saved only in a simulator and not in your maingame killboard.

As Irani firecam says, NO we do not want this.
So you're basically crying because you're terrible at computations and dont want to do any work to figure out whether your ship will be good or not, the reason for the attributes. there is no point to a game if it doesnt challenge you.
Ask in the #help or #rookies channel if you want help fitting a ship but dont ask people to make it easier for you.
However, it is a good idea to have a sandbox area where we have a more friendly combat, where noone's ship explodes when in the combat system but what can be used in this system should be limited like the rest of the systems, by your skills. maybe unlimited ammo in this system could also be a plus.
There would also have to be a requirement of time for someone's shield and armor to build up before they can engage or be engaged in combat again, in this system.

It would kill the fun of getting new ships and it would kill the excitement of the fight.
One of my eve careers funniest and most exciting things have been warping/jumping on to a small/solo fight where I don't really know am I going to lose it or win it.

Are you suggesting an arena mode where you fight other human players, or a single player simulator where you can specify your own and enemies ships, and the behaviour of the enemies.
If the former I'd say no, if the latter I'd say yes. ---- I belong to Silent Ninja (Hopefully that should cover it). |

Considering that ship destruction is vital to EVE and the economy, I can't see CCP implementing a combat simulator that is comparable to the RL fighting in EVE. It would just directly reduce the amount of fighting and the number of losses in the EVE universe and therefore be just a negative drain on the long term health of the game. The fact that it would be optional wouldn't change the fact that people playing in the simulator are people not participating in the EVE universe, and even people who don't PvP in EVE affect how it works as they interact with the game and with other players directly or indirectly.
Mothermoon's idea on the other hand is much better. If you're going to make a simulator, make it a very basic educatinal tool for EVE combat and leave it at that. Don't allow the normal ships and fittings, but allow to choose roles and ship types. This way you could test how a typical stealth bomber handles in it's intended role against a frigate/cruiser/BS or against different weapon systems, but it should be a pale comparison to actual combat in EVE.

At least a combat simulator for PVE with all available ships and fittings so you can test some situations like behaivior of enemies or features of some ships. Look at the game "Star Wars : X-Wing Alliance" how its done there:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_X-Wing_Alliance

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what you can do on SISI. Granted, you can't go and find a specific NPC on demand, but it's effectively the perfect sandbox for trying things out.
That said, there's little you can't figure out by doing calculations yourself using a fitting tool like Eve Fitting Tool or Pyfa. With Pyfa at least, you can calculate DPS to a specific enemy based on their movement data and signature radius, both of which can be found here. --- New, buggy features do not attract as many new players as old, broken features turn away existing players. Don't dig yourself a deeper hole by creating new problems before fixing old ones. |

ok i see about 4-5 topics a day about this.
try one of these many ways to test your fittings and ships
-GO OUT AND USE IT!
-go to singularity
-use it against rats
-ask a trusted friend to test your ship out
IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF LOSING YOUR SHIP, DON'T USE IT!! go for something cheaper...or don't pvp!
