Ok.. i gotta pull back from my trading.. I log on and look at it too compulsively when I could be out bike riding , messing with photoshop and editing home videos etc..
Any stories of how you cut back?
I guess i just need to close down all of my lucrative little markets and contrain myself to station trading on a character or two.
Sounds simple, like losing weight
eat less, exercise more.
Works everytime except its hard to do.
Any stories people want to share ? More of an emotional question than a logic question... logic says just don't do it.

You might be right...
Its hard to quit when you've got enough Plexes to pay for a handful of accounts for monhts, and isk/assets that would extend that for years,
do you want my stuff?

Edited by: Tutskii on 12/04/2011 05:30:05 I will not say no if you find you want to dispose of it, and I will even keep a small picture of you in my captains quarters, which I'll smile at appreciatively every so often.
The thing is that I know exactly how you feel and I get compulsive as well over games like civilization, sins of a solar empire, and things like that. One more turn.
Then when I'm doing something else, I think about what I would be doing in that extra turn and so on, and so on. And then I find myself wandering to play it because "it wont take that long"
The only solution that I've found works is getting rid of it. Suddenly, freedom. Out of sight, out of mind.
Choose freedom.

The first step is admitting you have a problem. You have been brave and admitted it. Kudos. Now we need to work on getting you clean and trading-free. Send me all your stuff so that you can't trade anymore.

Double the number of orders you manage.
Then double them again.
You will soon stop when you burnout - it's not a complete cure, but it will get you out in the Sun long enough to be slightly less pasty.

I found that nothing stops things dead so well as cancelling all your orders and then dumping your whole stock on buy orders. It's like a bucket of cold water in the face and the deliberate act of destroying acrued value is a useful step in breaking the cycle of being too focussed on acruing more value.
Depending on what you trade and how much of your isk is locked in, you might want to set a zero day and dispose of as much as possible at better prices before hand though.

I tried this, it took 3 months to unload my stocks even selling to buy orders. When i was finished (logging in once a week or so also to set skill) i got some new inspiration, but full time trader, never again.

I solved it by making enough isk so that I don't care anymore, and playing until I got burned out. That doesn't work for everyone, but it works for me.
I'll go in cycles, play quite a bit, then stop playing for a number of months.

Awesome advice.. i've come to a similar solution on my own and started on it... but the itch to tinker a little or snatch up low hanging fruit profits i see while liquidating is a challenge .
The zero day is an awesome idea ... nothing like goal

Stop adding new buy orders. Sooner or later you'll run out of inventory, and you'll slowly pull back from the market.
Then when you're all done, you'll know if that's what you really wanted to do.

So far so good...
... pretty much ended my active trading , collected and liquidated large portions of assets and focussed capital on a couple large isk amount items that i get to when i get to ... still making pretty ok isk with much less time.
the only problem is that I switched over to compulsively grinding World of Tanks

As sick obsessions go, this one is relatively harmless. However, if you really want to do it, why not pack up what you can carry to some remote star far from any hub and become the greatest explorer Eve ever knew. Or maybe do missions to get standing with some obscure npc corp, or mine or something. Consider it a sabbatical. This way you can go back, someday, and meanwhile get a feel for where all those traded things eventually go and for what they get used.
Marketing has become mechanical for you - simple numbers. There is a depth behind it of which you've lost sight. Embrace the depth. Real life is over-rated.

let your account expire, keep your orders open, come back in a month or two after you established a productive routine. if you give all your stuff away you will still come back,if you want to leave for good delete all characters on all accounts.
