Hey all,
I want to say thank you all very much for the considerable, vocal feedback on the inclusion of the "banning" rule in this tournament. We certainly anticipated a lot of discussion on this as it is a pretty big game changer and you guys did not hold back!
Over the last few days, myself, Sreegs and Zirnitra have been discussing possible modifications to the rule based on this feedback. What we believe at this time is that while the rule would add some interesting aspects to the tournament and is quite possibly worth looking further into, it certainly needs refinement and needs to address the major concerns raised. The biggest one of these would be the fairness to pilots who would get eliminated by it, and this is also the most difficult to resolve without massively complicating the rules.
As such - in the interests of keeping things (relatively) simple and finalizing the rules, we will remove banning from this tournament and keep the rest of the rules unchanged. I'll make sure the rules page gets modified accordingly later today.
Cheers, Mindstar

Too bad, now the rules are the same as last year except for a few ships costing -1 points.

Wat, changing the ship limit mixes the rules up 10 times more than the banning rule.

Thank you for listening to the concerns about banning players. I hope you find other ways to achieve the interesting games we all like without removing players completely with no specific reason required.

Although i felt the banning rule was slightly un-thought through, i did like the idea that it would completly mix things up.
Now I feel it would be nice to add something to the rules to make sure things are different than last year. ______________________________

Glad you guys are working to take the concerns of the playerbase into consideration.
Ideally I would like to see some significant rule change from last year to shake things up, but having finalized rules is probably more important than getting a twist added that might take quite a while to get ready for prime time. ---------------------------------------------

Out of curiosity, is the reason you bring up a specific player out of a 20 page thread because he was right....? and thats why you need to change your rules? Or is just out of spite?

I agree however I think that, while not as major as something like banning, the points tweaks and the format change will provide a bit of a different flavour. Certainly the matchups in the group stages will be interesting, as people will have a lot more of an idea of who they will fight.
Additionally, I would expect that flagships will be quite a lot more useful and potentially be used in multiple roles - as teams will be able to change their setup from match to match. This alone, I think, will lead to some interesting ship choices where flexibility is key, and teams want to keep their opponents guessing when a flagship is on the field. -- |

Yes I agree, although I would have liked to see an adjustment of black ops BS points wise I think the flagship changes are going to result in some very interesting matches and explosions. ______________________________

Edited by: Kashimir on 12/04/2011 16:56:13 The biggest reason why I felt worried about the banning rule was actually the fact that it came up in the same tournament as this amazing format change. I believe the change of format will have much bigger effect on the overall progression on the tournament than can be predicted, that's why it is hard to add other gamechanging rules as their implications are impossible to predict. For example, without even knowing what could shape up to be a winning tactic in 5 pilot preliminaries I think it's fairly risky to stack too many drastic changes on top of it. Now that my worries are cleared I can honestly thank everyone involved in bringing us yet another even more awesome (at very least it is longer = bigger volume of awesome) tournament this year. :)

Smart move, although I still can't understand why banning was included in the first place, the community reaction was fairly predictable.

why not add in pick one char to have either his shield or armor striped at the start? it dont remove the player, but makes it more intresting as a diversion tactic at the begining
