So I'm Gallente speced. I like to fly my Autocannon Myrm. Why not use a sensor dampener when engaging Minnie ships like the Cane. That cuts their optimal by 17%. Assuming equal skills and piloting, that gives me a fighting chance, no? Especially with DPS coming from my Hammerheads or Ogres. I'm not saying I'll win 100% of the time but I don't see why sensor dampenors can't be a viable tactic to help mitigate the slowness of our Gallentean hull when fighting speed. Please enlighten me.

Sensor dampeners reduce their targeting range not optimal.

Sensor damps only affect targeting speed and range, they are good for kiting ships etc.
Sounds like what you want is a "tracking disruptor" that will cut there optimal and fall off range and hurt there tracking, that is with out scripts with scripts you can really affect one or the other (optimal range script or the tracking speed script).
when fighting a cane i would recomend a dual cap boosted, dual rep myrm with MWD, scram and web. You will be a big target so a tracking disruptor is easily counted. so go for max tank/cap.

Edited by: Mutnin on 14/04/2011 23:04:37 Damps are nice when used in the right situation, but a Myrm vs a Cane isn't the right situation. Well on any BC for that matter.
Damps have two options, range damping and target lock damping neither of those will do you much good in a Myrm, as you will be up close and personal and in his targeting range regardless if you have him damped.
The only time a damp might work out on a drone boat, is to make it harder for someone to kill your drones, by using scan res damp.
Typically best time to use Damp is a Scan res on BS or larger when you are flying Cruiser or Frigs. However the most common usage is for rage damps and that only suited if you can dictate your range, something a Myrm will never do to a Cane.
Example we often use an Arazu paired with a Rapier and then add in DPS from bombers. This kind of usage of a damp bonused ship can take out a large range of targets in a pretty safe manor as we can tackle/web out side of 35km and the bombers can do damage from 40-50km making it not much fun for the poor guy whom is getting shot at.

Being that I don't fly t2 yet, is it a viable alternative to fit Damps on Gallente Battleships? Or is the Celestis the only option during gang fights?
