Dotlan is a wonderful utility and as far as supporting those who dedicate their time and skills to developing useful tools for the community, this is one worthy cause (even past the current donation goal). Obviously, not everyone shares this opinion but that is not a good reason to oppose the existence of his thread. It gives a chance to those who might have otherwise missed the announcement on the website to help out if they can (I myself didn't see it since I usually just go straight to the maps from the homepage with minimal lingering).
Plus, the UI abomination that is the in game map doesn't show fun info like stuff from eve-kill, one of my favorite features on dotlan  Nice to see at least some snippets of what specific groups of people, or people in specific systems, are up to when a quick report is all I'm looking for.
