I may have missed something fundemental, but......
I live in the UK..and as you probably know we use GMT (Greenwich mean time).
Now.... as i post this it is 14.55pm GMT the servers were due up at 13.30pm GMT!...every day the downtime happens 1 hour later than advertised.
Is it me? have i slipped into an alternate reality where everyone i know trys to hide the fact that my clocks are an hour faster than everyone else....i know this game makes people paranoid....but please CCP theres no reason to mess with peoples perception of time.

It's not just EVE, GMT is static, it is not changed by daylight savings time or british summer times.
12:00 GMT is always 12:00 GMT no matter where you are, it may just be a different local time based on your location.
Right now GMT 11:00 is 7am for me. When daylight savings time kicks in in the fall and the clocks move back an hour, 11:00 GMT will become 6am for me.

They should have used this since it is actually the same thing:

Edit: it's Internet Standard Time

GMT is indeed static.
Iceland abolished Daylight Savings time in 1968 or there about so it's always on GMT.
The British and most/all of Europe however do use daylight savings during summer and so you get Greenwich being one hour ahead of it's namesake timezone.

GMT is a universal mesure, it's the base, it's like saying Zulu time (used for airports all over the world). GMT =/= British Summer Time... GMT = GMT, that's it that's all. It's up to you to make the proper math :)
And by the way, the time that is in the game (lower left corner) is the time CCP is using, so if you're confused look there :)

I'm amazed at how many fellow brits do not understand DST/BST.

Eve is GMT, the UK is currently GMT+1 to allow us more time with the drizzle and dog**** that marks the Great British Summer.
