So i woke up this morning and found i had no clean boxers, so i decided to go down to the shops and buy a pack. So i get in my car and head down to the local shopping center, i find a parking space on the main road behind a audi Q3 who is slightly double parked, doesn't matter i say to myself, i've got a c2, its fairly small.
So i start to park, when a massive crane comes down the road and nearly takes the back out of my car, i quickly move into the space and ever so slightly nudge the bumper of this audi.
No biggy, i say to myself, they call them bumpers for a reason. But then this woman comes out of the car shouting at me, saying 'my kids are in the car' blah blah blah(because obviously i would have avoided the car if there were a fue kids in the car, but don't give a f**k otherwise), she then makes out that i've totaled her car. i look down and there is a tiny little scratch on the paintwork (who the **** makes a bumper out of metal anyway?), so small i had to squint to see it.
She then demands my details, so i give them to her, we then agree to settle it out of insurance, which will apparently cost me 500 pounds...
Oh and the only boxers they had were horrific...
So i want to know has anyone else had a similar experience and how should i deal with it?

I'd like to know, if you turned the boxers you had on inside out, before leaving for the shops?

Not exactly similar but...
I went to local supermarket to get some energy drink, costing about ú2... end cost ú352..
I was driving along minding my own business, went part one of those junction things, and BANG, someone had pulled out into the side of my car...
Now I had never been involved in an accident before... so I jumped out the car, and was angry atfirst but the female driver of the other car was sheet white, so I kind of calm down alot, and checked she was ok, we agreed to move our cars to one side..
I moved my car to one side, and she was gone, off she went, didnt get the car index, so could not be traced and I ended up paying the insurance excess!!
Also of course it now effects future insurance costs

How you should deal with it?
Well it's water over the dam now... but i'd say
-never agree to anything without first consulting a professional -deny anything that hasn't been proven. I'm not sure how it is where you are, but burden of proof is on the prosecution in the U.S. Were there witnesses? Who is to say that mark on her bumper wasn't there already?
you probably took the easiest/cheapest action, especially if you know your insurance is going to get hiked the moment you call in the incident.

The French give you less than 2mm of space to get out of a parking space.
The Dutch seemingly cannot read road markings. The four hours spent parked up at the ferry bays was pure madness as car after car failed to stay on the road and drove down the parking lanes.
The Germans drive at a billion miles an hour.
The Austrians cannot park. At all.
And us Brits fall off the road with the first snowflake.

If someone backed into my car I'd freak on them too. I realize you did it by accident, but it's astonishing that there are some countries where this is considered normal. Here, you bump into someone's car you stand a decent chance of being shot for it.

Normally I'd say something sympathetic, but I'm just going to laugh. This couldn't have happened to a better person, and my only hope is she takes your money AND makes an insurance claim.
PS: I suppose that this means you'll be claiming that the reason your fraud of a "movie" is so far behind schedule is because you just lost the entire budget? -----------

Edited by: The R00k on 18/04/2011 22:55:07 Unless there is cctv footage you are in the free m8. Just say she pulled into you well leaving the space. She says you did it. You say she did it. Police wont say jack as there is no evidence either way. They can take you to small claims court but once again you say she did it. She says you did it. They wont be able to prove either way. no one wins she gets fee's for bringing it to court. You sue for harassment.
Answer your question. Yes I had a similar experience. Tosser broke my car and it cost me 3kk to settle his legal action against me for taking it to court. He walked off scot free. I lost faith in justice.

What type of Audi is it? Most bumpers aren't metal anymore, it's some weird plastic ****...I got rear ended at low speed in my Saab and they had to replace the whole bumper because whatever it's made out of was crushed enough that they could only replace it. You really couldn't see the damage aside from being scratched up but was crushed a bit so it buckled a little on top. New bumper was $800-$900ish. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

Yeah a new Audi is going to really cost you if you damage one. Lucky for me Illinois you are required to have insurance so the other guy's insurance company paid for it. Pretty much any mid to high end car is going to cost you through the nose if you damage it...had a 2001 Mercedez for a while, thing cost minimum of $2k every time something went wrong with it...ended up just ditching it for the Saab...so far never had to pay more than $500-700 for repairs, probably because GM owned Saab for a while, easier to get parts. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

This thread is now about the high cost of vehicle repairs...
But before it gets completely hijacked, to answer the OP's question, yes something similar did happen to me:
The lane i was in was crawling, while the lane to the left was moving along nicely. So, I decided to change lanes. I checked my blind spot and saw a car quite a ways back. I thought I would have the time to get in ahead of him but he was apparently going much faster than I judged. The front corner of my bumper grazed the rim of his wheel wells as he flew by. I was clearly in the wrong, but the guy just kept on going. Must have been in a bigger rush to get where he need to be than to worry about a slight blemish on his car. Oh well.
More interestingly, a buddy bought a new BMW and when it was less than a week old, one of his co-workers backed into it and ruined the bumper. Since it was in a parking lot, that means there is no-fault, so they both had to repair each other's damage; no-fault insuance just doesn't make sense to me. since his car was properly parked and the co-worker can't drive! Why should my buddy have to pay???
Ok, back to the cost of repairing vehicles...

id have likely told her to "**** off" first off if she was really even slightly double parked as far as I know that is illegal in most cities. The problem is Luxury cars tend to breed the "I can double park because I am rich" syndrome.

Sc****d the arse end of a Yaris with my Golf a year or so back, turning into a parking space and not paying attention. Cus' I'm honest I hung around and offered to pay for the repair (tiny scratch) if they got me a quote.
No, they couldn't of proved it was me if I scarpered before someone asks. But I'm not like that...
Got the quote in a few days, was about ú190 give or take. Straight up paint damage.

My dad got into his car with my mother and 2 friends, drove off down the road, leaving myself and my brother at home.
A moment later we heard a bit of a bang outside but thought nothing of it.
About 45 mins later, parents+friends show up at home, and the car has some serious damage to it. Some idiot at the end of the road had decided to reverse out without looking, and came straight out in front of my dad. He was in the middle of changing up through a gear at the time and didn't quite have his foot no the brake so swerved to try and avoid this guy (at around 20 mph) and instead got his rear end clipped by this guy and then ended up knocking down 2 fence panels and going straight into a concrete support for said fence.
The damage was enough to write off the car (worth around ú8k) due to a piece of the sub-structure being damaged and also the engine being partly damaged.
All the guy who pulled out had to say was "I was only going out for a loaf of bread" - that load of bread cost him (well, his insurance company) about ú8k....
