Yup, and guess what, five years of playing a beta have been enough, the last forum mega **** up exemplify what CCP is, a company good at making promises and awful at delivering results. I never found the game genuinely good, but kept playing for so long because there was still hope for the amazing promises to realize.
I have no more hope, at one point you got to admit that the kid with lots of potential is just another failure and cut your losses. CCP got no grasp whatsoever on their game and they still seem to think that piling unfinished feature on top of each other makes a better game. It doesn't.
There seem to be a bit of lip service now toward iterating a bit more often, but very little in the way of acts. Ship balance is still a joke (and seemingly no one is even working on it anymore), faction warfare is still very broken (ditto, anyone is even supposed to look at it?), living in a WH is a pain and expose you to massive corp thievery because there is no proper way to bolt stuff down while still permitting a decent functionality, the sovereignty mechanics are a joke and it takes an alliance imploding for the map to evolve...
It's just a few glaring example, I could go on with their PvE (in what other game do you hear of people falling asleep playing it so much?) and with their misguided economic interventions (nice technetium boost, either ex Bob devs took refuge in the North in drove or they are completely incompetent).
Oh and yes, they spend most of their ressources on Incarna for which their seem to be no real gameplay planned...
Would more feature have kept me in game? Unlikely. Would the same feature set with a better realization have kept me in? Definitely. So close yet so far to being awesome.
So what's the message of this bittervet for the general community? If you like the game as it is, good for you, keep playing and paying. If you only stay for fear of being behind SP wise when the game finally turns awesome, you may as well leave now. I've been there, it just won't happen, look for other games there are plenty around.

Secondly, bittervet signing in. Plex is your friend, I'm not paying any money personally to CCP anymore, so I don't have to feel like I'm wasting actual cash on the game anymore. Secondly, the thousand papercuts thing has actually gotten me quite interested, to me it genuinely sounds like there might be a change a'commin.
Either way, I'm gonna plex it out til Incarna hits, and see what happens after that inevitable massive resource sink plateau's and stuff can start happening again.
How many other games do you know that decided to build an entirely new graphics engine for their game, and release it with nary a flutter of the the subscription prices.

lol no, I actually cancelled after that blog http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=832 in December (and yes nothing since to make me change my mind), but was on a 6 month sub that was renewed shortly before. Have been suiciding ships ever since. The fit was actually meant for 0.0 sec farming, landing straight on that gang was unexpected...

THIS was your undoing. Why would you play a game you HOPE will be good some day? That's just...well...dumb, to be blunt. One should play a game he finds fun. Regardless your hard work, it's just a game, not an investment.

Here we go, another "CCP messed up the forums for a day, now I don't like them" thread.
I've been playing since 2003, I've been though it all: all of EVE's expansions, CCP's **** ups, and insurmountable lag. And you know what? I ****ing love them for it.
For all of the endless *****ing in the last month, no one has given CCP credit that they're due. They are, hands down, the most dedicated company to their MMO. Eight years of "EVE Is Dying" and not one person has been proven right.
Now granted, I wish they would do something about FW and Incursions, and even revamp mining like they said they would three years ago, but those details aren't going to make or break my continued experience.
To all the whiners these past few weeks (I'm looking at you Sata) CCP is doing something right, and has been for the last few years. At least when they make a mistake, they own up to it (as if anyone but the forum *****s gave a crap about the new forum anyway).
Goodbye Lubomir, I sincerely hope you enjoy your life beyond EVE, and do us all a favor before you go: Take the other whiners with you and let me, and everyone else, enjoy the bloody forums again.

I stopped actively playing eve because a better pvp game came out.
Who would have thought the game that finally dragged a good chunk of the pewers away from eve doesn't even have spaceships in it.
Saying that I still have my two oldest accounts active and are skilling up for when ccp finally get past this carebear expansion phase and get back to making eve the premier pew pew mmo once again.
Long Live Eve.

You should review my posting history . CCP messing up the forums was just another example of their inability to deliver anything working properly. The whiners will leave the forums when either there is less to whine about or they all unsubscribed in disgust, whichever come first.
Anyway my sub now got minutes to go, so it will be my last post till I start to get those five days offers.

But will it be enough to actually make the game finally get a negative growth index?
Sure I and many many others have jumped the 'fail boat' for another game atm but even with all the scores of eve players I run into in that game they almost to a man still have an active account.
They, just like me, are simply waiting for CCP to finally finish the game so we can all come back.

May I point you to a post in this thread titled " [Proposal] Alter bad new company direction, STOP rushing stuff out".. My opinion is that it gives a fairly convincing forecast because of: 1. Notice the recent up and down flucuations, it is obvious that the people keep coming back to check out the new features and then get disappointed and then quit again right away. This is going to continue. 2. Notice the "growth" is already slowing to a horizontal line, and the slowing is going to continue. i.e. the curve will turn into downward sloping very soon.

Speaking of which, I heard whispers of unconfirmed rumours that CCP actually lost a noticeable portion of their former testers not so long ago (fuzzy on the details as to why though), so basically, they're running with an understaffed and overworked QA team. Would love to get an official denial of that, but appearances do lend a lot of credence to those rumours. It would certainly explain a few things.
If you head over the ex CCP employees blog, you'll see ALL of them agreeing that CCP internal communication is their Achille's heel, that teams act like they live in a "void" with little interaction between them and several other curiosities.
I was considering asking for a job @CCP as Economist helper or even as coder but the wages seem horripilant and their pension system is not integrated or compatible with anything yet it requires an amount of (10 iirc) years just to make you eligible to get it.

Subscriber count graphs available in the QENs. http://cdn1.eveonline.com/community/QEN/QEN_Q4-2010.pdf On page 8 of 52. And my mistake, when I said "didn't get steeper", what I meant to say was "it got less steep". http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/7402/evesubscribers.jpg Including rough linear approximation from the moment it became "somewhat popular".
Here's my MS Paint approximation about the next months in EvE's subscriptions market, even if CCP changed their ways and approach to quality (players discontent inertia):
As you can see the trend is exhausting (increasing volatility on the upper graph). The yellow lines show the slope changes in the "123 zig zag", the cyan are some areas of support or resistance. and getting more "whipsawing" which is another sign of trend exhaustion.
This trend will peak either at the current high or a next lower high (not drawn) then there will be a sharp drop down to the lower support. It will break because we will be in summer (low subs period of the year) and an even sharper drop will happen.
After a rebounce (typical bottom W formation), IF CCP changed their ways, they will slowly begin rising up (red line). If they stay as is, we'll see a further drop (blue line) to dynamic support and then who knows.

Sorry to say it but it isn't ever going to happen.
It is at best a year before we could see real signs that CCP is taking the direction to finishing/fixing the game as in addressing the abandoned features and content they haven't worked on or even looked at for years. More likely it will be 2+ years as they continue to push forward with their master plans involving Dust/incarna all the while not dumping the idea that new shiny is needed to get more new subs.
Even if CCP stopped all new content and focused on fixing/iterating features, never happening, they have years of work ahead of them. While we know they aren't going to stop making new content/features for expansions, simply isn't going to happen.
Best we can hope for is they put a real effort into addressing the abandon/broken features on a regular basis that might one day be equal to 'new shiny' so we get half new crap and half fixes for old stuff. I could also fantasize about a super effort on fixing the game but I simply don't see that happening in the wake of the Incarna/dust push which opens so many doors for more new crap they won't finish or do right.

Well, I just found out that one of the guest restrooms at CCP's headquarters is leaking... AGAIN! CCP has failed me for the last time. This incompetence from them to even properly fix the toilet is the last straw that broke the camel's back.
