I am Caldari, but I am Achura and I am a thief. I am an unskilled thief. While others train skills and strive for greatness or proficiency, I train no skills nor do I need to. I steal, plundering the hard work of others. I steel because I wish to discover your secrets; the secret of who you are. Despise me and reveal yourself! Destroy me, there is no loss for I return just as before. Back to steal again.

I'm just trying to get a clear picture, Boma. You may recall that I, though a pirate, am also a bit of a "law and order" type-- I like to see strong, practical structures underpinning society, even in a society of criminals like myself.
It seems as though what you are praising here is the capsuleer equivalent of a petty thief, and for no other reason than because he breaks with the expectations of a society you desire to protect, yes?
... So, yes, I'm a little puzzled, and trying to get a sense of your stance.
Am I simply taking this all too seriously?

Yes, I think you are taking this a bit too seriously. In my opinion an Achur petty criminal is of more value to the Achur as a whole than one that embraces their State overlords with fervor.
But in the context of this thread, and its obvious ridiculousness, I was sort of just talking out of my ass to join the party.

The kind of knowledge one steals is usually the kind that serves as a tool, rather than an aid to achieving any greater understanding. In other words, it's just another play for power-- and one that every civilization in the cluster denounces, at least when practiced by its own people upon each other.
It's much about the games we play, not so much about seeing what lies behind them. Information of this kind is like wealth, stolen or otherwise: a tool, but also a distraction.

If the end is understanding something, and you need to hold it to understand it, and someone won't let you, there is only one course of action left on the table.

I'm not saying that theft is never the correct course of action (pirate, hello). I'm saying that encouraging it-- putting it forth as, what, an admirable example of Achur behavior?
It's absurd, Boma. Theft is a means to an end, yes, but not a means we should probably encourage over-much unless we want to become famed, not as thoughtful seekers, but as untrustworthy sneaks.
We do not need to understand every individual thing in order for the seeker's path to be worthwhile. In some cases, you may be right, but it's nevertheless not something you actually want to encourage if you want a workable society.
It's a bit like murder, that way.

I have found your musings interesting, my freinds, but you do not understand the secrets I am after. The greatest secrets of the universe lie within the hearts of men and women. My thefts are of little profit to me in material wealth, but they teach me a great deal about the people from whom I steal. What you value is revealed when it is teken from you. I look for unsecured containers where the person is present to see how they will react. Do they value life more than their goods. Will they kill a thief without warning or with so much as any consideration? Will they try to dissuade the thief from going through with it? Cloning has impacted our view of life so very radically both for capsuleers and for non-capsuleers. What is at the core of our hearts? These are the mysteries and secrets I seek. There are no skills to train for this. I merely offer a provocation for you to kill me. How will you respond? What will it reveal about you? One recent interaction went like this: "keep back dude"..."Close enough"... "That's what happens when you don't listen..." What has happened to the human race?

Ah! Now, this starts to sound a bit more interesting, now that you've laid it out in more concrete terms. As a note, what you are investigating is not the attitude of the "human," so much as of the capsuleer/infomorph class (or subspecies, or outright species, or possibly kingdom, depending on how you draw your lines).
Do keep us informed of your thoughts on this subject, won't you?

I was preparing to despair until this last run. I ran across a miner taking large quantities of scrodite and Perox and loading into an unsecured can. I contacted the pilot indicating to him that I intended to take a quantity of what was his because I "needed it more than he did." I proceeded to take one small load (120m3) and then another. He asked if I would like to lose my ship. I replied, "Yes, if it helps you keep your soul?" He then asked "Do you need money?" I said "no" and then said that I would take one more load. He alowed me to do so without any agression. This is a new and unexpected twist in my research. I must ponder this.

Some of you have mentioned the issue of what stealing does to others in the way of encouraging them to do the same. I believe I have just made such an observation. My small ship is only able to haul very small amounts and this is a great advantage, because I need to return to a can several times often before I am even noticed. There was another miner in the area of this can who was not the owner. Between my third and fourth trip to the can, he used his large ship to empty the other pilot's can. Before he saw me stealing, he seemed content to mind his own business and mine. Hmm.?

If you want to steal something do it efficient. To haul away 120 qm ores is not worth the effort of flying to the can and back. If you do the same with a probe you haul away over 400 qm ore with one flight. A small industrial is even cheaper than that because you don't need any modules fitted and you can easily haul 4000+ qm with one flight.
Think about that. Optimize your work.
But it's not stealing if you take something that is belonging to everyone anyway. Like stuff in space. I personally could open fire in a case like that but not because I think I'm in a superior moral position but just because CONCORD allows me to fire.
Means I often fall asleep if I do boring stuff in space and my head hits the trigger. In the moment the CONCORD warning disappears regrettable weapon malfunctions may occur and the autocannons open fire. Before I'm aware what's happening I often enough just can salvage the wreckage of the "stealing" ship to my biggest regrets.
No. I don't believe in the existence of stealing. Property is theft from the community so theft is property. Stuff in space is allmende, it belongs to the one who gets it first or to the one who survives the battle about the question who was the first.
Autocannons are fun.

Reply to last post: I am not seeking to be an efficient thief for I seek not material profit in it. I seek knowledge. Insight: As much as I am despised as a thief, I find that other clones seem to despise those I steal from as if they deserved it. The lesson that people seek to learn is how to guard their goods from theft, but that isn't the main lesson perhaps to learn. When something is taken from us, we discover far more of what is really inside us other than our carelessness over "our things."

I hope I express this well... Yesterday, I looted an unsecured can and warned the owner that I was about to do so. I was warned by another pilot with these words, "I wouldn't do that if I were you." That warning came because the person I was stealing from was a person of power, well equipped and quite able of destroying my ship. "If I were you?" These are interesting words, and it finally dawned on me what it is all about. Capsuleers and non-capsuleers share this in common; a fear of loss. What they do not share in common is what they fundamentally fear to lose. What we fear to lose impact our values deeply. The world at large generally fear to lose their live ultimately. Cloning has changed that for the capsuleer. "If I were you." These words ring in my ear. The warner assumed I shared his fear; NOT the fear of losing life, but the fear of losing stuff. Losing a ship, losing nerual implants, losing the days harvest, losing weapons and rigs... but not life. What arrogance is heaped upon the collective conscience of the capsuleers. I will spend much time in my quest testing this observation among those from whom I steal. Since I maintain no equipment that isn't automatically replaced even if I am podded, I can stand outside this insane fear of loss while still not fearing the loss of my body. You reflections please...

Today was a productive, mystifying day. Many of the hidden turmoils in the hearts of capsuleers were brought out in they day's work. I saw glimmer of personal defensiveness when the so called victims of theft were questioned about their responses. That defensiveness tells me that not everyone in confident in the skin of their moral ambiguity. Can we call that "hopeful?" I uncovered another dark corner of the casuleer heart. Some savor the destruction they cause. Caught in warp scrambler, I was made to "wait" while the individual told me that I was not worth the ammo to destroy, while thers followed just to observe the spectical. I knew, of course that that was not true and she would destroy me. I asked the person what they valued that would lead them to a violent response. I am sorry to report that "stuff" "ISK" seems to be the top motivator. Another did not destroy me but denegrated the items I stole. Often when we lose something that we consider our property, it helps to denegrate that property. Perhaps we feel less of a loss that way. There seemed to be a strange combination of agression and playfulness among the capsuleers this afternoon. Some were humored that their fellow "eggers" were being robbed. Some rushed to see the unarmed thief destroyed. The arena was open for business, so to speak. Capsuleers have definitely had their humanity altered, not just their bodies. But I am not yet ready to say definitively how. More time and research is needed.

I have much on my heart tonight. I have begun to feel a great burden for my fellow capsuleers. I have started to use more provocative communication when I steal from cans and wrecks. I have been trying to "bring out" what is locked up in the spirit of the capsuleer. Tonight I encountered isolation and loneliness. I discovered that agression and violence is a way for the capsuleer to perpetuate isolation. Several capsuleers were unnerved when I returned after my ship was destroyed. When they discovered that destroying my ship would not stop my interaction with them, I think it highlighted that isolation had become a force of habit in their existence. There are enough entrails of true humanity left in the gut of the capsuleer to make him or her chafe at their isolation. Hope remains!

Would the human body notice the absence of but one corpuscle? Yet the capsuleer enrages at the loss of tiniest of his possessions as if his body were being drained of its life blood. In my thefts, I intentionally take very little of true material value. Those from whom I steel have vast wealth and I take but a corpuscle of it. In this minute taking is revealed the extent to which the greed and avarice of the capsuleer has completely consumed him or her. If one of my "victims" can see this for only a moment, perhaps I will have acheived my purpose. I am here to help you restore your humanity.

A remarkable event. I have discovered and anomoly among the capsuleers. In my typical trademark style, I announced to a capsuleer that I was beginning the process of looting his unsecured can. He responded, "Please help yourself." I was greatly surprised; so much so that I refunded the price of the looted items. This definitely goes under its own chapter heading of "anomolies."

While my life as a thief is part of a broader purpose of seeking out the mystery of humanity, i.e., the humanity or lack thereof of the capsuleer, I thought it might be instructive to speak of the conventions of being a thief. I have an M.O. While not strictly a pacifist, I proceed as one. I am never armed when I go out to steal. I do not fight back when attacked. I also do not sell any weapons I take as plunder. I reprocess them and sell the minerals and materials. It is a matter of principle. I have a calling card. Every thief should. My calling card is to give the "victim" of my theft 1.00 ISK and to inform them that I have looted their wreck or can. My other calling card has to do with unsecured cans with substantial ammounts of material in them. I always try to contact the "victim" and let them know that I am proceding to steal from them. This affords opportunities to further my research through interaction. I would be very interested to hear from other theives as to their M.O.'s and Calling Cards.

Another remarkable experience just moments ago... I looted an unsecured container, left my calling card and was subsequently destroyed by the capsuleer. He then gave me 500,000 ISK and told me to buy a better ship and learn skills to run missions. Through a prolonged and amusing interaction, the ISK ended up with a newb in system. I am somewhat frustrated that people keep trying to convince me to "find honest work."

Morality? I have made some interesting discoveries here, most by accident. I have maintained the policy of training no skills. This eliminates the temptations to acquire ships, weapons, stuff that I may later fear to lose. It keeps the mission "pure." Many capsuleers claim to adhere to no shared morality, but observation has proved this false. It is amusing to see how there is collective judgement on me for not training skills, for not thieving efficiently, for not having a better ship. They almost seem to abide by some instruction from a "higher power" on how to conduct themselves in New Eden; as if someone were telling them, "you must train skills," "you must work for agents before doing other things," "you must upgrade your ship..." The Capsuleer is really less independent than they would like to think. When I defy this "shared morality" it almost always gets their hackles up. Hmm. It is like they are trying to tell me, "You aren't doing things the right way."

I believe greed, for lack of a better word, is the shared morality of the capsuleer. I suppose it's understandable, because few of us got to where we are by leading a quiet life of contemplation and service to our fellow man.
You've managed to stumble across one of the truths of the cluster there, though. Now stop and think a few moments on why capsuleers need (or think they need) ISK, where it flows from, and why.

"I Don't Care" These are three of the most caring words many capsuleers speak. They are spoken when facing the demands of an isolated life. They are most often spoken at the moment when a person's image is the most fragile. When that persona that you work so hard to project begins to fall apart. When your whole reason for being in New Eden begins do bleed back into reality, you say, "I don't care." You hope that these words will snap you back into the comfort and security of your fantasy. I just had a good conversation with a capsuleer about the issue of the desire to control one's own destiny and one's own environment. He pointed out that often, it isn't so much the "stuff" that matters as a defense of what I would call "the perimeter of your world." (Those are my words, not his.) I have to agree with him on this. While I still think that some capsuleers care a lot about the stuff, I do believe that many are more concerned about self-determination. There is a big difference. Some capsuleers have shown great generosity towards me while still defending their own turf. I do respect that. One can be a highly self-determined individual and generous and self-giving as well. I hope to have more and more such new observances in times ahead. P.S. WHile writting this, I got blown to space dust. I gotta pay more attention.

I am humbled by how naive I have been. Are capsuleers really so rich that 105 Million ISK menas nothing? I can't find anyone who wants the money. Have I been in poverty so long that 105 mil seems like a lot to me? I guess there is a lot more to understand about the capsuleer than I thought. Still, I hope someone will apply for the grant. There has got to be someone who can do some good with it.

So I've been reading these here musings and it occurs to me that you are actually depriving the "victim" of more than the things you steal.
Time is the only resource that is equal to us all. I would think that the time it takes to peruse you and "seek vengeance" is actually more valuable than the few chunks of rock you took. Maybe the emotions you pull out of people are actually worth more than some trinket module.
Anyway since you're offering I would be honored to accept the isk. Ive been hunting pirates for weeks now and I still don't feel any closer to achieving my goal. I want to follow in my Papa's warp trail and explore new systems finding ancient relics and bring back knowledge from the dead. Suffice it to say the cost of durable ship is prohibitive to that goal. My dream ship would be a Prophecy Class Battlecruiser. I think they look like a golden eagle diving through the air.

This last experience with all the ISK made me re-evaluate things. Having that money was a great burden to me and it occupied too much of my thoughts. I have made a decision. I will keep only enough ISK to use for my calling cards (1 ISK per theft)and I will no longer sell the things I reprocess unless to either replenish my calling card ISK or to buy something to dump in a can available to anyone who wants it. I now have 24.85 ISK and feel much more free to do my work.

Humor! Without it our persanalities collapse. It is healthy and unhealthy. Some capsuleers totally lack it. This is sad. Some capsuleers possess it and use it to control and harm others. This also is sad. But... to my delight, I have discovered that many capsuleer possess this quality of humor in a most delightful and healthy manner. Gentle, self-effacing humor that does not denegrate the self, but rather liberates the self from the prison of personal posturing; this is good humor! I have seen some very witty capsuleers use their gift to undermine others who are not quite as intellectually quick. This is a dangerous gift. Please use it with care. Others have a sort of beautiful child-like sense of humor that is humble and earthy. I still smile at the image of farting in a bathtub of caramel.(inside joke from the Piekura system) Yes, I know not everyone appreciates that kind of humor, but sometimes the tension just needs to be broken. Yes, capsuleers can laugh.

Taunt: noun, scornful derision Taunt: verb, to deride or scornfully challenge Provoke: verb, to call forth, incite or stimulate to action. I approach this topic cautiously, lest I be accused of arrogance or presumption, but I may anyway. I have sometimes been accused of taunting others by my thefts. I do not taunt, I provoke. Taunting is always done for self gain to the harm of others. Provoking can be both harmful and helpful. I admit that I attempt to provoke people, but never to taunt them. A wise philosopher once said, "Let us 'provoke' oneanother to love and good deeds." We cant taunt each other to love and good deeds, but we can provoke or call forth good deeds. We can incite good! That is what I try to do. I fully admit that taunting and provocation can feel exactly the same. Often it does, especially when it catches us off guard. In fact, since taunting is what most capsuleers do to each other in New Eden, it is usually expected. Positive provocation is not expected, especially the kind that I do as a "thief." My father, who was a wise and good man used a method of discipline with his children that involved provocation. He would announce ahead of time what disciplinary action was to be taken and then he would send us off alone to wait for its execution. The waiting and anticipation was always more severe than the discipline. It was highly effective. Some would percieve this as taunting. It was not! It was provocation for good. It was deep love done unselfishly and with great self-control and wisdom. Let me provoke you! Let me call you forth to self awareness. I have found what I do to be effective in this matter.

I catch flies with chopsticks. This is a new metaphor for my work. It was a visiting capsuleer who charged in with much bravado and spite who help to reveal this. The capsuleer made the often repeated remark that killing me was like swatting a fly and that I was but another idiot worthy of his spite. Well, be that as it may, conversation continued with him on the subject of fighting, skill, and power. I suggested that perhaps catching flies was a better use of his skill than swatting flies. Bigger, better ships he said, Better weapons he said. But another capsuleer suggested that more skill was needed to capture flies with chopsticks. Eureka! That's it isn't it. I did not say it. but the fly was the violent capsuleer, the chopsticks were the peaceful minds engaging him. He was captured if but only for the moments of the conversation. I want to thank my fellow capsuleers in Piekura who brought their chopsticks and joined me in catching this "fly."

The names I'm called. One of the disciplines I seek to cultivate is not just a physical pacifism but a verbal pacifism as well. Capsuleers lean toward verbal aggression in many different forms. My work inevitably provokes some of that, so it is expected. I have found that responding with questions and not with aggression has a curious effect. Sometimes it provokes even more aggression. Sometimes it provokes pause and even a softness in otherwise very hard individuals. When called and "idiot" or "Jack***" or "***hole" etc. Most capsuleer would expect me to strike back. I do not, and this introduces the unexpected. In the unexpected new things are always discovered.

I am most delighted to report that I have been contacted by an Intaki man who may interested in sponsoring the work through a corporation. What is interesting is that he is not a wealthy capsuleer by New Eden standards, yet he is willing to do this. We are working out the details at present and are not yet sure of the time table. We are not even sure if anyone will be willing to join such a corp. It would involve sacrifice. The requirements would be strict. We would like to see representatives doing the same work I do in all the four major sovereign territories. Eventually we would like to send workers into low sec and even Jovian space. Watch for new developments in the future. In the mean time, back to work.

Outwitted Capsuleers, some anyway, are quite intelligent and witty. Some are quite able to out wit me verbally. So what do I do when that happens? Admit that I have been outwitted. Continuing to argue when you have lost is a most pitiable thing. I have found that one of the most disarming things you can do to another is to concede. It opens up whole new avenues of kinowledge, especially knowledge about others. A person to whom I have conceded a point is far more likely to share an opinion on life than if "I am always right." Always leaning...

Sadness, grief, and change. Some capsuleers are deeply sad. Met one tonight. I flipped his can. He didn't kill me cuz he thought I was a fly; heard that before. But, as we talked and another pilot joined the conversation, the grief came out. A lost friend, a shared experience no longer; the drowning of sorrows... Space can be very lonely. I gave him a small gift because he seemed to need someone giving to him as well as taking from him. The other pilot gave the gift of a recommended book. When we are pushed, really pushed, people are more important than ISK. I challenge the Capsuleers who read this tonight to find someone to give something to here in New Eden. Make the gift a sacrifice, see the good it does to you.

Just a little friction. The Benefactor who is willing to form the corp to recruit, train, and deploy workers like me, has ideas of his own. He wants to choose a name for the Corp that I am decidedly uncomfortable with. I want qualifications that he sees as tedious and cumbersome. We are not at each other's throats and I think we will reach compromise. I think, because we are both a bit stubborn, that the compromise will leave us both a bit happy and not so happy. Who knows whether this will go anywhere in the end anyway. Time will tell. In the mean time, If you think you might be even remotely interested in this kind of work, just reply to this thread. Peace.

Concession and Compromise We have taken the plunge and formed the corporation, or Edaine has, I should say. I have had to make two significant compromises with Edaine to make it happen. He has had to make one very big compromise. Edaine has agreed to let me issue what he calls a cumbersome, tedious instruction and requirement manual. He is worried no one will want to join. I have had to compromise on the name of the corporation which is very embarassing. Edaine says, and I quote, "You need to be willing to take your own medicine, Ston." He says that it will be a test of my humility and that I will have to practice what I preach if people react to the corp name by getting on my case. The second compromise I cannot talk about here because the rules of this venue forbid it. It will be obvious in the corp description. Edaine says that it is the only way to get people to sign on. Maybe he is right. Complaints out of the way... A huge thanks to Edaine Numenor. He will be bankrolling all corporation expenses, rental fees, etc. all out of his personal resources. This is a non-profit corp. Watch for us in the corporate recruitment and here for the publication of the training manual.

Giving, Receiving, and Happiness. I saw a remarkable thing tonight. Generosity became contagious. A capsuleer gave a valuable item to another and spread happiness. Giver and receiver experience palpitable gladness. Generosity always has a beginning. In time, we hopefully learn to give of non-material things and derive a deeper joy, but for many capsuleers, giving stuff has to be the first step. Lets hope it continues to deeper levels. Thanks again for all the help, insight, and wisdom shared by all the pilots of Piekura this evening. I appreciate you. I am really pooped.

Edited by: Ston Momaki on 06/05/2011 10:35:34 Much to report
We interrupted planned violence in Piekura two nights ago much to the angst of those who planned it. It is not brave for immortals to fight just for the sake of it. Rather bravery comes with the self-control of restraint. We value life so little when we think that it can never be destroyed, so we treat violence as a cavalier sport of sorts. One of our functions as disciples of Ston is to "absorb" violence that would have been intended for others. The group of pilots who intededto fight each others, eventually left the system. "Not here, not now" we said.
Welcome Manwe Todaki to the Disciples of Ston. Manwe does not have impeccable qualifications and was almost rejected as a disciples, but when we heard the story of his journey to Piekura, we changed our mind. While maintaining a 0.00 security status, he does have five violent incident records on his file. Anyway... Manwe had to traverse 22 systems on the shortest route to get here and half way, he was brutally attacked and pod killed by the dread outlaw Demtri Smakinoff. Waking up in his medical clone, he had to begin the joury all over and take a longer one of over 30 systems to arrive safely in Piekura. This would make most quite angry, but Manwe's response was noble in the very essence of the Disciples. I quote, "Lets forgive the cowardly act of violence committed by Demtri Smakinoff and not treat him like a coward but as a person worthy of forgiveness as all of us would want to be treated." This humbled me. No spite. Manwe show the self-control need to be an effective worker in the cause. He went on to say that he wants to teach his people that bravery consists not in the easy yielding to the impulse of violence but in the hard decision to restrain for the same. In respect of that, we will seek a place in Minmatar space for Manwe to do his work. Speaking of that, we welcome Dawn Kee**** as a Disciple of Ston. Dawn has impeccable qualifications for the work and a skill set that I think will work well in the flexibility required in this work. Dawn will be filling in for me in Piekura, while I help to train in Manwe for his work in Minmatar space. Already, Dawn has shown a great compassion for both the regulars and passing visitors of Piekura. For the next two or three days, Dawn will be the Disciple of Ston "stealing" from the good folks of Piekura.
Finally, an insightful pilot pointed out one of the continuing quandaries of our work. We generally reprocess all weapons and sell the minerals. We give away the ISK as part of our work to try and promote generosity in EVE. However, the quandary is whether or not we should just store the materials so that they can no longer be used for violence. I have pondered this and decided that each Disciple must exercise his or her own conscience and values on the matter. Part of me says that if we can help others be generous, it will go much further than the tiny bit a material we remove from the production of weapons. Our material impact is minute. Our interpersonal impact might be a little more significant. Each disciple is autonomous enough to make decision for themselves.
Finally, Finally, I had to to trust another capsuleer last night when I ran into a large cache of weapons. My small cargo bay could not handle the cache and I did not want to risk them falling into violent hands. I receive a promise from a fellow pilot that he haul them away and reprocess them. Naive of me? Perhaps...but I have faith that he kept his word. Not everyone is a liar all the time. I have found nobility and value in this universe as well as violence and greed.

Manwe Todako will be cutting his teeth in the Abudban system. This system has a good regular capsuleer population to steal from and a lot of belts, including an ice field. We hope that it will be a good place to start and maybe stay. Good luck Manwe. Don't forget, Manwe to either start a thread here or write in this one to log your work. Much thanks to Dawn Kee who will fill in for me while I help Manwe get started. I hope those in Piekura will be gracious to her as she steals from you. My only concern is a Gallente working in Caldari space may generate some "interesting" interactions. I'll be back to Piekura in a few days. Peace.

You might have some problems in Adudban. Especially for someone 'cutting their teeth', as it were. It's still highsec, to be sure, but cans are secure. Does Manwe have the appropriate skills (and time?) to break into a can before flipping it? Also be aware that more and more people are getting tired of flippers and have decided that they'd rather mine more securely with an Orca. I know I have. Adudban is also a route between lowsec and Rens. You definitely won't be the only pirate out there. So...good luck. You'll need it.

Unsetled capsuleers and violence: THE KILL BOARD Returning to Piekura, I discovered several new and unframiliar pilots active in the system and at least two showed impulsive, violent tendencies. In converation with one who killed me, the kill board was brought us. Lets think about this for a moment. The kill board... a record keeping device designed to celebrate senseless violence. Furthermore, it is a device to promote competition among pilots to see who can commit the most senseless violence. The KILLBOARD! Just think about it. What have we become. I see that Piekura continues to need the presence of the disciples. Dawn worked hard in my absence. I am concerned that some pilots may have been verbally unkind to her. She is there to help you, pilots. Be nice!

The subtle justifications for excess. I had an extended conversation with a very intelligent and mentally quick pilot last night. I had to conced the point that economic systems can and do help ordinary people live, meet their needs, care for families, etc. The problom arose however in taking the model of healthy economy where trade and commerce are carried on to meet the true needs of citizens and applying that model to the sick greed and thrist for for violence of the capsuleers. The individual I spoke with argued hard that the capsuleers represent a healthy society with a healthy economy. Here we disagreed. Providing food, clothing, shelter, education and other essentials for a healthy and growing culture cannot be equated with the obsession with ISK to build up bigger and more treacherous weapons that are used to feed the greed and avarice of the minority of citizens in New Eden. Our true need for bread should not be equated with our false need for quafe. It is sad that the capsuleer thinks himself right and just in his endless persuit of wealth. He pats himself on the back thinking that he is feeding a "healthy" economy when all along he is really feeding an insatiable ego. I didn't do the best job convincing this pilot of these things. His intelligence and verbal wit stood in the way of his need for a reformed heart. It reminds me of the need for quick minds to join the Disciples and spread this work. Peace to you all.

Tonight I encountered what could be described by the childhood addage, "Playground bully." Bullies tend to be people who are so bored, or shallow that they need to entertain themselves by pulling the wings off of butterflies or killing baby birds for fun. Unfortunately, such types can be the most difficult to reach. So engrained is the deception of power and the illusion of strength, they they are able to perpetuate their own social illness almost indefinitely. What a pitiable situation.
This particular individual had other like-minded friends to work with him. I find it interesting, what some consider entertaining. Since these individuals are regulars in Piekura, I anticipate more opportunities to interact with such behavior. I appreciate one pilot who had the grace to warn me. May peace abide with this person. These others will be a continued object of study in days to come. I believe that I will have more opportunity because they have expressed the assumption that I profit from the thefts I use to provoke these encounters. I beleive that I can recreate the same set of circumstances again. I will have to test this tomorrow.
I have encountered bravery since I began this study. I have found it in those with the wisdom of restraint and self-control. I have also encountered cowardice; most often in those who lack the power of self-control and seek to use violence to control others. Such is the case tonight.
I hope that there are other aspect to the characters I have encountered tonight; more noble aspect. We can always hope for that and try to draw it out. That is my task for days ahead. We shall see.

COMMUNITY TYPE CLASSIFICATIONS One of the things I regularly do is make reference to my jounaling in this venue when active in system. I have always though that certain individuals took a look at the entries but was never sure. Last night it was confirmed through two means. First a pilot quoted from my journal entry and second, I noted a direct response which you can see above. The Disciples are encouraged to provoke pilots to response through non-violent means in order to learn how the capsuleers function in their environment.
We have discovered communities based on several things, each more or less loosely connected. Some gather for conversation. Others gather for what they refer to as pilot vs pilot activity. Many gather for mining operations and the list goes on. I was impressed at the gathering of a community last night not for ISK. Last night was my first opportunity to see a community that was actually gathered out of principle. The Credo at the beginning of this log is "despise me and reveal yourself." Up to this point, I have worked hard with only marginal success.
Last night's journal entry was a risk that I usually ask other disciples not to take, so I hope they will excuse me for doing so. The risk paid off, however in the exposure of communications structure, shared opposition to a single entity (me), and coordinated effort against that entity, and strong feeling about the shared values of the group (see Bumnz entry above).
It raises a question for me. What would happen in New Eden if the same cohesion were to be exercised toward the simple betterment of others? What if groups were to band together not for mutual profit or mutual revenge, or even shared entertainment, but for the purpose of showing generosity or mercy? How might people be changed?

Awaiting the sanctions of my peers. Last night I broke the rules of the Disciples of Ston. I stepped out of line, because I thought I could get at a peice of knowledge about capsuleers, and I did. But, if I cannot keep my own rules and be accountable to others, then the Disciples mean nothing. One of the Disciples called me out on the issue. The CEO says that the other Disciples should decide what happens. So I wait. In the mean time, I was much more careful tonight. I was able to destroy weapons. Interesting followup: A while ago, I interupted a planned act of violence. I was told that they would kill me if I tried that again. Tonight I was killed by this group. I have also noted an increase of agression lately in Piekura, but there are those here that see the cycle of violence and recognise it for what it is, sad. Hold on to hope, those who seek the peace of Piekura. "Let us not become weary, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

This is an odd time for me.
I have been a disciple of Ston in name for less than a week but I have seen shifts in his own rationalization for what we do.
As he looks to his peers for punishment or censure for his insults towards a theft-target, I offer him none. I would not have taken his course of words but I do not fault him.
Ston now steals to prevent violence. I have no such aspirations.
I steal from you to explore your attachment to material things in eve. I steal your weapons, your rocks, your salvaged trash left to clumsily keep a container open.
I steal because I want to find out what loss does to you.
I invite you violence in return. It only hurts briefly and my clone is back in space in mere seconds. I am unattached to my many rookie ships and I fear not loss of skill, for I have none. None that eve can quanitfy anyway.
Ston is working through an internal crisis of his own right now. I respect him in that regard. Me, I am much more level in my intentions.
I am here to steal from you and to destroy what I take simply to cease its existence. Maybe I am the bully in Piekura after all. A bully who speaks in actions.

Dawn Aranu, you are a good Disciple of Ston and you truly "get it". I want to assure you that I still share your motivations that you expressed well in the above account. I shift from time to time in focus when I percieve the presence of certain personalities and tendencies around me. I am still very keen on coming between people and their acquistion of wealth. I completley agree that "loss" reveals so much about the heart.
However, lately, In Piekura, there has been significant hostility against me that seems to be connected with the taking of weapons and the confrontation of violence. I want to fully explore this for a while, at least, to see what it reveals about what's inside some people.
Each Disciple is encouraged to exercise a lot of autonomy in his or her own work. You, Dawn Aranu, are doing this well and I encourage you it it. Peace

CORPORATE NEWS I have been doing some scouting in Amarr territory and am convinced that we really need an Amarrian in the Disciples. In spite of their reputation as a religious people, I have found the Amarrians very commercially focussed. I am looking at Dantan as a possible system. 14 asteroid belts and an Ice belt make it an ideal location. However, it seems to lack a lot of local pilots active. I need to spend time there at different times to see what is really up.
GOOD NEWS I have donated 100,000,000.00 ISK to establish a permanent endowment for the Disciples of Ston to pay rent and hopefully expand the corporation in time. The investment principle will remain with Phaser Inc. and bear interest that will be used to pay office rent and any incidental expenses. Thanks Eddie Lampert of Phaser for providing the investment opportunity.

A brave king of ancient literature named Theoden once spoke in a time of desperate violence words I paraphrase, "How shall we withstand such reckless hate?" Along with the many good, peaceful, and kind people of Eve, there is also reckless hate in this space. How shall we withstand it? What tower can we build against it? The Disciples seek to build the tower of peace by confronting the futility of possessions and the wastefulness of violence. This is worthwhile work.
I will be voluntarily taking two days off of my work in Piekura. I am grateful to the Disciples for their encouragement and correction. Both have been given in proper measure. Dawn Aranu is capable of carrying on good work in my absence and well as in my presence. I may spend some time in low security space, testing the waters of difficult work and the self control needed. A couple days may be a fair time period as it is likely that I will be podded and will have to travel a bit.
An observation from the last few days... Two circumstances often reveal the inner quality of a man or woman. 1. How we respond to correction, and 2. How we react when our opponent, enemy, or those we perceive as such are humbled. The Former I must measure in myself; the latter I must observe in others. I will see you all in Piekura in a couple days. Learn from Dawn as she learns from you. Peace

Low Security Space
I will try to log frequently while I am in low security space. I know that working in 0.5-0.7 space has not even begun to expose me to the depth of violence and hatred that can be present in New Eden. This excursion is another opportunity to test and wring out remnants of fear.
I hope to test for the "residue" of the fear of death that is present in us capsuleers in spite of our physical longevity. I don't care for "immortal" as a descriptor, because it simply isn't true. We are mortal.
May this time make me a more humble and better Disciple of Ston.

Nothing...
The Disciples of Ston interact with Capsuleers. There is no one here to interact with. The local channel indicates 14 active pilots, but I explored all 21 fields and found not one pilot. Hakonen has nothing of interest for the Disciples.

The people of M-0EEB are quite interesting. I was destroyed almost immediately, but am sticking around as long as I am not podded to visit with these "folks." They possess the typical capsuleer sense of humor, earthy, pungent, sexual in nature. They are perhaps a bit less restrained than those found in low sec space.
I awake in Todaki. Somewhere in M-0EEB floats my corpse. One never quite gets used to this experience. Yes, I have gotten used to haveing ships destroyed many, many times. But, being podded always brings me back to the primal human instinct that clings to life and knows that it is fundamentally fragile.
Next decision, Do I go back to M-0EEB?

Being real...
I have found a common thread in the perception of many pilots in New Eden. When confronted with my questions, my commitment to non-violence, and my rejection of material wealth, I am often accused of not being real. Many capsuleer seem to think that I dwell in a fantasy land of some sort. Be that as it may, I question the reality status of any capsuleer. What makes the life of excessive violence, greed and avarice more real than choosing a way of peace. Each of us here in New Eden has chosen a way of conduct. Most misrepresent themselve by customizing their clones to look more like their misconceptions of "the ideal." Even self-titled names are often an unreal attempt to be something you are not. We can all say of one another, "O, you're one of those..."
Sub null space defnitely contains a different sort of community. Take the idiosyncrecies of the rest of space and multiply it a bit.
I have found a reasonable place to hide from danger where I can observe conversations and try and participate a little. The problem I am having is that when people figure out that I am unarmed, poor, and nothere to kill, they tend not to want to talk to me.
Sub null space has potential for the Disciples of Ston, but we would need to adjust our methods considerably. After being podded twice and returning, I have found a way to hide, somewhat out of site, or so I think. I have been in the same place for a couple hours without being discovered. We shall see what happens.

WE CAN ONLY BE SELF-CONSCIOUS WITH THE CONSCIOUSNESS WE CURRENTLY HAVE
I am spending the night in Taisy pondering what to do on day two of my treck into low sec space. 4 times today I have been podded; 4 sets of biomass; 4 times my consciousness shot through space back to the clone lab. How would you know if something was lost in the trip; maybe something small; some tiny crumb of your former identity, forever lost. How would you know. Self-consciousness guarentees nothing. I know only the self of now. This is the strangeness of clone death.
I think I have better identified the error of my ways. To cross the line from provocation to taunting is a line the Disciples of Ston must strive to know and not cross. The violence in sub null space is comprehensive. It does not spare the egg, so to speak. Each destruction of my ship was followed by the destruction of my capsule. Four corpses identified as "corpse of Ston Momaki" are somewhere in sub null space, likely in the hands of a capsuleer. I was promised that "intersting" things would be done with my corpses. Taunting was done with great expertise out there. In the last few hours, I have seen taunting performed with flair and style I wont soon forget. The line has been made more bold for me. LET ME FOREVER LOSE MY TASTE FOR TAUNTING. I hope to err on the side of caution. Provocation, yes. Taunting, no! But.. let the provocation be a true calling out to action, never done to entertain.
Long thought must be given before the Disciples venture into sub null space. The work there would be hard. Possible, but hard.

KILL RIGHTS I am going to rest most of the day today. Yesterday was exhausting. The self-control required in working in sub null space is very demanding. This has been good continued training for me.
Kill rights... Both Manwe and I have kill rights active for a period of time. This is such a contradiction of our values, yet it is pasted on our profile. The words "can kill," followed by the name of the person that Concord deems worthy of death is a sad state of affairs. We know that Concord is trying to establish a system of deterence in a lawless society, but I don't believe it works. Killing, a right? We need to think long and hard about this one. No disrespect to Concord, we need their presence here in clone space. However, I wish there was a "forgiveness option" on the kill rights tab of my legal profile.

Osgalolf Osoksund According to official Sisters propaganda, you guys are constantly observing the gate. Where are you. There is no one from the sisters in this system. Edaine has conducted a little research for me and has told me that while not 100% certain, he is pretty sure that the EVE gate cannot be reached. I have noticed a strange effect in the visible radiation from the gate. It appears as if the gate is receding from you as you attempt to approach it. Could this be an opposite sort of gravitational time dilation? I am setting course for Piekura and heading home.

Back Home in Piekura It has been a very fascinating two days. My journey into sub null space was a complete contrast to my journey to the EVE gate. Sub null space is the most violent place with some of the more dysfunctional individuals (I'm not name-calling, just describing.) Much healing is needed there. I do not yet know how the Disciples can establish effective work in those conditions.
The 0.3 space one travels through on the way to New Eden is some of the most peaceful travel in this universe. There are blood pirates there, but they are easy to avoid. Many of the systems are completely devoid of other pilots. It is quiet and almost completely non-violent. It is lonely, but not in a bad way. After the experience in -0.3 space, the journey to New Eden and back was good for me.
I met the Goners "again." I knew of them before the changing of all things. They are mostly non-violent and non-materialistic folk. It would be interesting for the Disciples of Ston and the Goner to find a way to interact. If any Goners read this, I would like to talk.
I met an interesting "Amarrian" who claims to be the guardian and keeper of the dead in New Eden. I think I met him a long, long time ago, but can't be sure.
I look forward to getting back to work in Piekura where even the insanity is more sane than what you find in Sub-Null.
One last thought, we may just choose a sub-null system and occasionally send a Disciple in on short term trips. That may be the way to do it.

Madirmilire is the Amarr system we have chosen for our next location to expand our work. The problem? We need another disciple to do the work. Right now, we are spread thin. This is such a challenge. Who wants to be poor, unarmed, and unskilled? Not to many people. Who wants to use their intelligence and social skills like never before? Become a Disciple of Ston. Madirmilire is the best system we have found so far in Amarr space for the kind of work we do.

INSECURITY AND THE EXPECTATION OF GENTLENESS
When someone who struggles with insecurity comes to expect gentleness from a consistent source, when that source fails to deliver, reaction happens. I almost always say please when requesting something. Tonight I made a demand of a pilot to answer a question. Others reacted to this demand with surprise. Apparently it was not OK for me to make a demand. People were not used to this tone from me. It is not my typical MO. Wow, this was interesting. This could be one of the hallmark observations in some time.
Something else reminded me of something that I observed in sub-null space...
REGRET, CONCERN AND RELIEF
I made the claim tonight that those who stay in sub-null space are different. (A generalization, no doubt.) Here is one way they are different. When they saw that I was not a "regular" this didn't stop violence against me, but I saw something that I have never seen in higher sec space. A Pilot mailed me after podding me to assure me that it was all in good fun. In particular after a conversation regarding my corpse. When I returned to the system and spoke of the humor of our interaction, they expressed in their banter a great relief that I did hold it against them. This heightened sensitivity doesn't seem to be present in higher sec space. I am not sure how many conclusions to draw from this. I need to process this a bit more.

MY IMPATIENCE
Raz had a poignant observation, and I believe there is truth in it. As a humanoid I share the weaknesses inherent to the condition. Was I impatient last night? ąprobablyą The big question for my own self-knowledge is why?
I am tempted by impatience when I see a pilot teetering on the brink of self-discovery, refusing to fall on the side of truth and light but, instead retreating back into the shadows of self-deception. I do get impatient when that happens. It happened last night. Raz, if the guy I had ask the question to had answered as you did, imagine the relief he would have felt? But Alas, he retreated back into the shadows.
The circumstances involved the recurring issue of how each of us projects the persona that we want people to see. We float in a vat of ectoplasm, artificially sustained while controlling our space vessels, so we use avatars to project an appearance to our fellow pilots. We make up names for ourselves to hide our real first and last names. But what do we really look like when we dock at station, shower off the ectoplasm and relax in our own suite. Is it our avatar that represents us then? I think not. That was what I was trying to ferret out with the question.
How was I impatient? When the pilot would not answer, I said, ōAnswer the question, (name of pilot).ö I didnĘt say please. I didnĘt say, ōDonĘt be afraid to answer, IĘm here to help.ö I just said, ōanswer the question.ö I could feel the pilot on the brink of truth. Was I impatient? Wellą I think probably yes; at least Raz and another pilot perceived so and maybe thatĘs what counts. Raz, thanks for interacting. I appreciate it.

New People, good surprises
I encountered people in Piekur tonight who are new to me since I began my work here. One pilot who has vast experience in New Eden for many years gave to me a great gift; renewed hope that greed does not rule every heart in EVE. I have found this before, don't get me wrong, but each time I find it, it still refreshes my spirit.
I also found the need for forgiveness. People grieve their pasts, but sometimes have a hard time escaping them. People should have an opportunity to prove that they have changed.
No one shot at me tonight. A first.

The Disciples of Ston Endowment with Phaser Inc. has generated its first income. I calculate that, at its current level, the endowment will fund office rental for our Piekura office only. I would like to see the endowment expanded eventually so that we may fund office rental in all four sovereignties.
Before we think that far, however, we need to recruit more Disciples. Right now, we would very much like an Amarrian to begin service in Madirmilire. We would sure appreciate any recommendations for qualified applicants.

WHAT? HUH? Sometimes, when I steal from pilots, I get this reaction. Most pilots don't care what happens to their wrecks and most thieves don't announce their thefts. Even the smallest of thefts, when announced, can stir the beast of possession within. However, other times, the reaction is just one of "what?" In this universe of insane wealth, it is often a foreign concept that someone would make a big deal out of such small things. The Disciples of Ston discover many things from small things.
Getting the ectoplasm out of my beard and mustache at the end of the day is a real pain, so I decided to shave tonight after work. Not much change in appearance, but easier to keep clean.

INTERESTING NAMES, INTERESTING STORIES? I encounter a lot of interesting characters in my work and some I never get to talk to. I only see their names. Others, I kind of get to know a little. I would like to talk about all the interesting names I come across, but that would take too long. I am not consciously leaving anyone out. I am just taking a sample of sorts. Volatile Past: This one seems self-evident. Rubberduck: I beleive this refers to a child's bath toy form ancient times General Chicagoland: This is something about an ancient earth fabeled city. Tipetwo Diabeetus: Something about a disease long ago cured. What are these stories? Another mystery to solve.

THE PARTS OF OURSELVES WE BRING Space and its anonymity temds to give us each permission to allow part of our nature make expression that would, under more restrictive social environments, be sequestered. It is this dynamic, that the Disciples of Ston wish to untilize to help people see more clearly who they really are. Self knowledge is the beginning of productive change in our lives, but the risks are real.
Sometimes, despair can set in. When we gain a better understanding of our darker sides, sometimes we believe that we cannot change. Worse, we may begin to embrace that darkness and let it grow until all else is subsumed.
To my fellow pilots; let this not happen. Hold out hope for the better parts of your character to be brought forth. No one is asking you to be like me or to join the Disciples if that is not your thing. I am asking you to be brave and endure the criticism that will come upon you if you exercise self-restraint, limit your violence, and seek to be generous.
In other words, start liking people and see what happens.
Thanks to the Pilots of Piekura today. You brought many things to the table and challenged my mind to think about many things. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

ONGOING ISSUES:
The Disciples of Ston have found few in New Eden who are interested in the sacrifice and self-denial required by this kind of work. Undaunted, we continue on. However, we do need to consider making some adjustments in our work. I am pondering the possibility of short term excursions in to selected systems to spread our work more broadly. Each disciple would have a base system where the majority of their work would be done, but would also expand from time to time into other systems.
I ahve also experimented with working at different times. I have noticed some turnover in Piekura and also new "faces" at different times.
We have not given up hope of getting and Amarrian disciple to join the ranks, but we can't just wait around until it happens.

DEFINING OUR GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
I find it very sad that many caps define all their long term goals and short term objectives in terms af materila acquisition and violent achievements.
The Disciples define their long term goal as changing people's attitudes so that they become less violent and less materialistic.
Our short term abjectives involve helping caps recognize their own negative instincts.

CAPSULEERS AND TRUST
With your leave, I would like to split a few definitional hairs tonight. I want to draw out the difference between the ability to trust and the ability to entrust.
There is a prevailing philosophy in New Eden that the capsuleer must learn to trust others to get ahead in this universe. Because of this philosophical assumption, trust has been defined always in connection with the individual's "best interests."
Capsuleers trust each other in combat, mining, trading situations, etc. All these having to do with the gaining of wealth or assisting one another against an enemy or just killing for sport. In all these cases, trust is defined as a SHARING OF POWER or resources. Real trust is never learned. In fact, it has been so redefined that we can't even use the word accurately anymore.
What the capsuleer has not learned to do is to "entrust." Entrusting is not the sharing of power but the yielding of power. Because the Disciples of Ston have a minimalist approach to equipment and skills, from time to time, we have to ask other capsuleers to dispose of large quantities of weapons we may find. This involves securing a simple promise, then entrusting the task to another. The power is yielded up, not shared. From time to time we give gifts of ISK to people with a violent history asking only that they use it for peaceful purposes.
The TRUST exercised here requires little risk because nothinng is truly given up or let go. true truting or entrusting isn't about the certainty we have that other will act in our best interest, but giving up that interest if but for a few moments. Entrusting, involves letting go; somethinng capsuleers continue to find so hard.

DIVERSITY IN THE DISCIPLES OF STON Tonight I was reminded that if the Disciples are to grow, we must embrace a measure of diversity, individuality, and varied personality within the general framework of the Disciple's work.
It was good to see Dawn Aranu back at work again tonight for the Disciples. It is rare that I get the enjoyment of working together with another Disciple. She provided a unique angle and her own kind of provocation to individuals in the system. She is able to get responses from people and in ways that I cannot.

I'm back. I am in a most interesting exchange right now. I ran across one of those Pilot vs Pilot invitation cans that one frequently finds in space. Pilots kill for sport and needlessly provoke one another into an endless cycle of meaningless destruction.
Here is how it is done in case you don't know. A can is placed in space and filled with either something valueless for the willing or valuable for the hesitant. You take it, then the owner can legally kill you.
What I do... I flip the can, blue it if it is valuable and advertise it as available. Otherwise I try to raise the warning to others. Sometimes I take the can and let the owner kill me to absorb the violence intended for others.Always, We try to talk the person out of that lifestyle. Tonight the person just would not converse and kept resetting the can. So, back and forth we go. I might end up dead in the process.

Now in a calmer mood, I have a couple more questions for you, Ston. Did it ever occur to you to try to verify what these so-called sources were saying about me? Do you really distrust me that much? You broke your own rules again and this time on "one of your own." Your reference to "it" was demeaning and insulting. If I am to give you one benefit of the doubt, it would be that what you do is mind bending work, because you are dealing with the some of the worst characteristic you find in people. But, what possible gain/prosperity would I get from this Corp? We have no income. All the ISK for operation comes from me. I wish you would have taken one second to reflect before you jumped to a very wrong conclusion about me. I think you owe me an apology at the very least. I am a bit surprised that you were so easily outwitted and caught unnerved. Let me suggest that when you start feeling tired, quite before you lose your edge.
Wait, I don't expect an apology. I EXPECT A PUBLIC APOLOGY.

Dear Edaine, I was completely in the wrong and I apologize for my inexcusable behavior. I make no excuses, but I do look for reasons for my own sake, not yours. When I look at the dialogue that you posted here, I am shocked at myself for reacting as I did. Was I tired at the end of the day? That is no excuse, but it might be a reason. Was I frayed by the constant back stabbing and manipulation among pilots? That is no excuse but it might be a reason.
I have no just cause to distrust you, Edaine. However, I have every reason to distrust those who questioned your motives and claimed to have heard you say things you didn't say. How stupid was I not to immediately see through their attempt to drive a wedge between members of our organization. That was quite dim-witted of me. Have five recent poddings dulled my judgments? That is no excuse, but it might be a reason.
All reasons aside, there was and is not any excuse for the disrespect, distrust, and wrong words I spoke against you, Edaine. I talk about forgiveness a lot in my work. I will now ask of it from you as well. Please forgive me and please do not leave the organization that your vision started. Hard as it may be to believe, I commit to entrust the management of this organization into your capable hands.
One step further: I will open another thread here specifically to state a public apology.
Most sincerely, Ston Momaki

HOW JUSTIFICATION IS MADE FOR KILLING What follows in the verbatim of a conversation I had this evening. I am going to mark in bold the point in the conversation where Shallindria turned from pure honesty about her love of violence to a justification of it based her concept of Justice. I will then mark again in bold where she returns to the primal violent intinct. The context is when I narrowly escaped being killed by her.
Ston Momaki > Shallindria, I stole just a little from you shallindria > oh no Ston Momaki > yes, can you believe it. There goes the neighborhood shallindria > u got lucky shallindria > :) Ston Momaki > Were gonna kill me? shallindria > maybeeeee Ston Momaki > Do you like killin shallindria > Yes I do Ston Momaki > Why? What about Kiiling to you like? shallindria > I like the thoguht of the airless void crushinbg the life out of you. Ston Momaki > Hmm. So it is personal shallindria > Not really Ston Momaki > Anyone will do then, as long as someone has the life crushed out of them? shallindria > Indeed Ston Momaki > Were you always this way? shallindria > I think u have it shallindria > yes... I have an evil streak Ston Momaki > Is the evil streak greater than your good? shallindria > Well I've not really thought about it but in this case since you robbed me you are the evil one.. Ston Momaki > Does my evil make you feel justified in your's? shallindria > and deserve punishment.. yes Ston Momaki > You are fit to deliver that justice? shallindria > Yes... I feel I have the right.. Ston Momaki > The right to kill? shallindria > Becuse you must be dealt with. Ston Momaki > Why must I be dealt with? shallindria > You've broken the law and you must pay at the end of a missile or two or three Ston Momaki > How noble of you to care so deeply about Justice shallindria > Then if possible I'd like to pod you... and make jelly out of your gord. shallindria > But thats like a Bonus
Note that when I wanted to talk about the conflict of good and evil within her, she immediately used the concept of justice to escape that existential sort of pain inherent to that discussion.
I recently had a conversation with a fellow pilot, a female, as to who is more or less aggressive in violence in our universe, men or women. She hesitated to answer. I think she I might be trying to trap her. Actually, I really am curious. Two of the most graphic and verbally aggressive encounters I have had have been with women, one in sub null space, and this one. Did you note the graphic nature of her discriptions? Violence is also in the imagination.
I could get no more conversation in this situation. I hope shallindria find peace and deliverence from the violence that owns her. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.
P.S. Edaine, thanks for the grace of forgiveness that I did not deserve.

YOU DO NOT HAVE THE EYES OF A KILLER
Well, at least your avatar doesn't. Every now and then, but rarely, I will work in the morning so I meet new people I would otherwise miss. Today was such an occasion. I stole from a young women, who later contacted me for an explanation. She indicated that she did not mind me looting her wrecks. She went on to say that she experienced joy in killing. I pressed her on the issue by pointing out the contrast of putting the words "joy" and "killing" together. She retracted her earlier statement and revised her expression around the theme of self-defense. I closed our conversation with the headline at the beginning of this log.
As I reflect on this and other observations, I come to a preliminary conclusion that many pilots only pretend to be real "killers." It is part of the expected bravado of New Eden. If we don't project the persona of violence we will get trampled and not survive. When pressed, I think many capsuleers live with violence as a part of their lives but would not really choose to pair "joy" with "killing." Some do, obviously, but not all. Like this young lady, they enjoy mining and building and do not have the eyes of a killer.

THE LIFE OF A BLEEDING HEART AND SAP First Tonight was a productive night in that I was able to interact most pleasantly with a pilot that actually had a very light hold on his possessions. This is an infrequent occurrence in New Eden and a refreshing one when it happens. Second I learned how to say " I have stolen from you" in German: Ich habe dir gestohlen. Now when the German corps based in Piekura are out doing their thing. I can make sure they know that the Disciples of Ston care about them too. Third I always feel bad when I see people identify themselves with denigrating names. Sometimes, maybe i take it too seriously, but I have seen enough pain in this universe to tell me that there can be a lot of pain behind so-called humor. I ran across such a person tonight. She wouldn't say much other than to say that she chose her name to make others laugh. I hope that is true, but I feel inside that there is more. I hope that she truly values her own uniqueness and that the name she has chosen has no bearing on who she really is.
The Disciples of Ston bid New Eden peace and good night.

IT IS HARD FOR CAPSULEERS TO BE BRAVE
The capsuleer culture encourages bravado, posturing, persona projection, but not true bravery. History paints the picture of true brvery as those who fight for principle in the face of certain loss, even death.
Capsuleer culture says that you act brave, when you know you possess the upper hand. Posture youself in the best possible light, but exit the situation when it is certain you will experience loss.
Other pilots find it very easy to destroy my unarmed ship after I have taken a trifle from their rat wrecks. Sometimes, afterwards there is taunting and threatening. I have been destroyed multiple times while on someone's clock, all the while they carry on with boastful words about all that they are gonna do to me.
Funny what happens as soon as Concord becomes a threat. Suddenly, there is nothing left of that which was so boldly proclaimed
No wonder, capsuleers are indoctrinated to be this way. Does anyone know what it really means to be brave?

Corporate News I have stepped up mining operations in hopes of eventually doubling our endowment principal. This would enable us to open a second office. In the mean time, Manwe has reported that the system in Amarr space we had originally chosen, is not what we had hoped. We may need to take some work time to do more scouting.

CHANGES IN PIEKURA
I have noticed as of late, some changes in Piekura. As those changes have occurred, I have also noted changes in myself. Tonight, things were slow, peaceful, and relaxed. I had one ship destroyed but no conversations of note. I found myself rather content in this and a little glad that I "didn't have to work very hard." This is not so good and I do not want to slide into complacency.
Perhaps it is a good time to accept Manwe's invitation to join him in Abudban for some work there. We tend to work different hours, and from the way things sound, there is plenty of work for a "couple of shifts" so to speak. There is also the need to do more scouting in Amarr space. It might be time to take a break from Piekura for a while, meet some new pilots, and cause our brand of "trouble" elsewhere.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

TRAVEL DAY Today is a travel day for me as I head to Abudban to work with Manwe for a spell. He has told me of a couple pilots to watch for there. I'll be reporting here on our work. Manwe and I have a little different approach. As a Minmatar, manwe reacts to the issue of violence a little different than I do. That is his focus. As a Caldari, greed is the issue I tend to confront. We will see how the combination works out. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

FEAR I do not have what one might call, "good empirical evidence," but my first impressions of Abudban is that it is a place dominated by fear. This fear generates violence. Violence generated by fear also can take the form of revenge. This is especially the case when people are afraid of those who have more power than they do. Vengeance is then taken on those with less power. That is where the Disciples of Ston come in. We present ourselves as a convenient target to the fearful. We are easy to destroy and we give a legal reason to do so; petty theft. We see the product of fear. As our thefts are petty, so are the violent responses.
Abudban is a fearful place. But... we have seen people recognise and overcome their fear. This is a place where our work is needed.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

BREATHING VIOLENCE LIKE AIR
The miners of Abudban are completely unnerved. A band of very violent pilots have been raiding the system and attacking miners, particularly in the ice-field. They claim that they are only attacking bots, but from the local chatter, it seems that the attacks are more indiscriminate. The losses are typically in the 200Mil ISK range as pilots are losing Macs and Hulks.
Whereas last night, I felt some reaction towards me in the form of violence, tonight all of local chatter was preoccupied with the violence going on. This kind of violence is definitely not the typical violence that pilots engage in with one another in relatively high security space. The pilots I saw attacking tonight had a minus 10 and minus 7.5 sec status. They are highly skilled in violence.
The Disciples of Ston may need to look for entirely different ways to help the people of Abudban at this time. Petty theft usually is a good provocateur, but not tonight. When an icefield is nearly empty of miners, because no one wants to risk the loss of their ships, petty theft doesn't move people much. The economies of scale have changed.
We feel for what is happening here. I only hope we can find a way to help somehow. I have sent a mail message to the pilot I believe to be the ring leader and offered the Disciples of Ston as a means to sate their lust for violence. I have my doubts if anything will come of that. But...we must try something.
I want to thank Dawn Aranu for working Piekura tonight. It is always good to know that there is a Disciple there in the home system. The Disciples of Ston are truly sorry for the huge losses experienced by the pilots of Abudban.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

Being new to the corporation management role, I still have a great deal to learn. For instance, I had no idea in the huge discrepency between office rental rates from system to system. I just opened an office in the neighboring system of Korama for only 10,000 ISK/mo. The piekura office is 10 mil/mo.
Its killin me to keep our HQ in Piekura when we could move it next door to a fraction of the cost.

I wish to take this oppotunity to apologise to Ston for how critical I was of him when he used some barely negative terminology to refer to some specific pilots in Piekura. I believe, "backyard bully" was the choice of words. I wish such words were sufficinet to describe what I have found in Rens. I do not know if I can describe the people here without attaching some kind of label. This place is a moral black hole. More later, when I can observe and think some more.

INSULTS AND BIGOTRY
But first...I have been waiting all day to read about Manwe's work in Rens. Sounds like it was very interesting. The hub idea is going to work, I think.
Now, back to topic. Today was an unusually high insult day in space. The insults usually involved identifying me as some form of female genitalia or a homosexual male. Whenever peace and non-violence are mentioned, these identifiers are used. I would think that any woman or homosexual would be outraged at such language. New Eden is tolerant in all the wrong ways. Violence and Bigotry is tolerated. Peace and non-violence are not tolerated.
topic two
ONLY THE PEACEFUL ARE FREE
The violent and greedy must lie continually to keep up the facade that is part of their existence. In the torrent of insults today, one pilot offered to pay 10 Mil ISK to anyone who killed me. I offered to come to the pilot so he could do it himself and keep his money. I found him and orbited him for a few minutes. He had a monster of a ship with eight turrets and host of ECM going. There I was in my Ibis. You see, he really didn't mean what he said. When it comes to true bravery, the violent and greedy are seen for what they are. All the bravado evaporates.
A peaceful man or woman need never lie or exaggerate. A man or woman of peace need never make false threats or be inflated in self-estimation. A person of peace is free to actual be himself. Peace does not require you to maintain a facade. Violence and greed always do.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

THE STRAW MAN
I have been watching with great eagerness, the reflections of Manwe as he works in Rens. Tonight, he hit upon something I have seen over and over again, the use of the straw man. Below is a quote from part of his log for tonight.
quote: The most common straw man that caps use is religion. I have come to the conclusion that caps have a love/hate relationship with religion. It seems to hold them in bonds and they hate it, yet they love to talk about it. Back to the Straw man. Just as soon as you get too close to their greed or violence or weakness, or lack of bravery, they will identify you as religious; that's the straw man that is easy to ridicule, deny, persecute and dismiss. Ah, now I don't have to deal with my anger, greed, violence, and self-deception. I can focus on knocking down the straw man. It is the oldest logical fallacy on the books.
I had originally thought about addressing why capsuleers enjoy the failure of others, but I will leave that for another time.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

WHEN I AM VERY GLAD TO BE WRONG
At the conclusion of my time in Abudban when I was preparing to set out for Piekura, I decided to take one more spin around the patch. I had reflected on what I was going to write about tonight, what themes to focus on, what aspects of human nature to accent. Then it happened...I had one last conversation. That conversation filled me with humbleness and joy. Humbleness, because it showed me I was wrong about what I had planned to say; joy, because it showed me that there are noble people around and one needs to stay hopeful.
In every conversation up to that point, I had heard profanity, sexual crudity, insult, and just bad logic. This conversation began as a light debate over what is interesting or boring in life. The subject ranged on into the issue of peace vs violence, etc., etc; typical fare for a "Disciples of Ston" conversation. What struck me after about three exchanges was this: The person used no profanity, no crude sexual remarks, no straw man arguments, no insults. We simple spoke back and forth about our observations, values, and opinions. After a bit, I literally felt encouraged. I didn't change his mind, and he didn't change my values. But, HE DID CHANGE MY MIND about what I had intended to write.
The preceding days were so characterized by the lowest and basest elements of humanity, that I was about to make some pretty judgmental generalizations about all or most pilots. The line between idealism and arrogance is thin, and sometimes the Disciples of Ston cross the line. It is one of the perils of our work. I feel gratitude that I was stopped from crossing the line by one last conversation in Abudban.
We can find reason, self control, respect, and honor among those with whom we have differences of value. I just hope I don't become to cynical to look for it.
I won't use the person's name to protect his privacy, but if you read this, a Big Thank you from Ston Momaki.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

DO I HAVE TO? AND HOW LONG?
Edaine has ask me to temporarily take over management of the corporation. He says that he needs to leave to corp for a while so he can get jump clones, whatever that means. Anyway, I would have to train three skills. This is not what the Disciples do and it seems like a distraction. Edaine needs to be able to do what he has to do and he has promised to resume his role as soon as possible. He will be contacting Manwe and Dawn about it soon.
It is important that we keep faith with our members, few as they are. Edaine says he needs to work out the details regarding the endowment and how to to transfer roles to me. Since he is new at this, he says it may take some time to figure out.
In the mean time, I am free to keep working as I have been.

GIVING IS A LOT MORE FUN THAN TAKING
Two experiences confirmed this to me tonight. The first experience took place in Piekura and the second in Korama. In the local com channel, someone was asking how to get isogen. Apparently, he needed quite a lot. The Disciples are urged to give when they can. These gifts are usually small, because we do not accumulate ISK, but happen upon it in smaller amounts through reprocessing what we steal. I had a few 100K ISK and bout 9999 units of isogen and gave it to the man via contract. It was fun. He was surprised and grateful.
The end goal of the Disciples' thieving is so that we might give something of deaper value, i.e., freedom from greed, violence, selfishness, and fear. Sometimes we are successful, but more often, not. These human nature obstacles are difficult to overcome. Taking from people isn't always as fun as some might believe.
The second experience involved tipping a can of pyroxeries in Korama from a jet can miner. You cant secure cans in Korama, so you are at risk if you jet can. I retitled that can and tried to get the pilot to talk. He left and forgot his acolytes. I took those and tried to get in a conversation. Nothing doing. Eventually I blued the can and opened it up on local channel. He returned and took his stuff, but gave me no opportunity to give him something better or to receive from him something non-material.
I certainly enjoyed the first experience more and will look for more opportunities like it in the future. However, it is the first pilot that we really want to reach. Such a challenge.

Corporation News: I am now back with the Disciples of Ston as CEO. In less than 48 hours, I was able to instal jump clones in all four major sovereignties. These I will use for my own agenda as well as assist the Disciples in the rapid scouting of systems that may be good places for them to work.
When I founded this corp, I did so as a rookie pilot with minimal training. I saw jump clones as a tool that could assist us and make us efficient. The requirement of an 8.0 standing with the corp cloning facility make the process prohibitive for rookie pilots, unless...
This is why I had to leave the Disciples of Ston for a short period. There is a service called Estel Arador Corp Services I highly, highly recommend them if you want to jump start your acquisition of jump clones. Once you train Infomorph, join the corp and instal your clones. It is that simple.

I THINK THOU DOST PROTEST TOO MUCH
Here is a typical Disciple of Ston conversation... five minutes in, the subject says that he doesn't care about you or about what you have to say. Ten minutes later we are still talking when he says that I am irrelevant. Fifteen minutes later, he declares that he is ignoring me. We go on talking for yet another fifteen minutes for a grand total of 45 minutes of conversation. During that time numerous attempts are made by the subject to make me angry through insults of various sorts. The subject matter captivates the pilot for 45 minutes and yet he must remind himself and me that he is ignoring me and doesn't care about what I have to say or that I take an interest in his thoughts and life.
All of the Disciples have encountered this irony in our work. I would like to be able to say that we always succeed in giving our subjects the gift we desire to give; the gift of self-knowledge, but this in not the case. For 45 minutes, I endeavored to open the intractable lock of stubbornness to no avail...maybe...
Who knows but perhaps inside, some ground was gained. Ground won back to sanity from the insanity of greed, violence, unforgiveness, bitterness, loneliness, isolation, and pretense.
Another difficulty encountered tonight was the impossibility of trying to focus on two individuals at once. There was a great possibility of having two focused conversations at the same time, but alas I found myself needing to direct my attention to only one. I hope to encounter these individuals again, but that has yet to be seen.
Strange enough, the Disciples of Ston depend upon strangers who have no awareness of what we do and our underlying purpose to pass through the systems where we work. Such was the case tonight, and it played out well. I only wish for the freedom of peace in the mind and heart and soul of the very angry person I talked to tonight.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

SELF-DETERMINATION
Hard to define, difficult to practice consistently, easy to think we have it when we don't. This is true not just for the pilots we seek to help, but for ourselves as Disciples of Ston as well. While seeking to help others attain it, we need to be very disciplined in our own exercise of it, verbally, emotionally, and in our choice of actions.
Special thanks to Aranu tonight. You showed up at just the right time and really helped to set the tone that needed to be set and to expose the need of the hour. I still have a hard time seeing another disciple fired upon. I am used to it when it happens to me, but never when it happens to a fellow disciple. Aranu acted in self-control and grace this evening.
Now...on to the pilot we tried so hard to help. One of the main hopes that we have as Disciples, is that capsuleer pilots can learn to choose not to act violently in defense of their "right to possession." At times, it seems unbearable for a pilot to let anyone take even a single unit of Trit from them without trying to blow them to space dust. My hope was that this particular pilot could learn to feel the deep satisfaction of actually choosing not to react to our theft. Here is the irony: The Disciples of Ston intentionally try to provoke reaction through theft while at the same time begging people to excercise the self-determination it takes NOT to react.
In this case, I was pretty sure the pilot would keep firing at me, but at the same time hoped beyond hope that he could be convinced not to, just once. When will the Thralls of New Eden look down and see the shackles they are in and say, "enough" "just once, I am going to choose not to kill even though I can." I was also somewhat disappointed, though not surprised that I could find no one to assist me in helping this pilot (after Aranu left the system).
Before one can learn to be brave, one must learn that he is weak. The illusion of strength will always sustain the arrogance that prevents bravery. Only those who know they are weak on the outside can muster the inner strength of self-control. When this happens and is combined with growing skill, technology, and power, greater good can be done. Are there any in New Eden who are ready for this.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.
P.S. Edaine, chill. We understand who you are and aren't. You don't owe us anything.

TOO BUSY TO REMEMBER OUR NEED
We, as an organization, have been so busy trying to figure our how to do our work with so few members that we have forgotten to ask our fellow capsuleers to help out and join this organization and work.
We would very much appreciate a forward thinking Amarrian to join our ranks. I will not fill you with any delusion about the challenge for an Amarrian in this job. The Disciples of Ston require a level of pluralism that might be a stretch for an Amarrian. However, it also requires a level of non-violence that is a stretch for a Minmatar and Manwe is doing it. It requires a denial of self which is a stretch for a Gallente, and Dawn is doing it. It also requires a denial of materialistic pursuit, and a Caldari is doing it.
Amarrians, who among you will join us in this work?
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

WHAT YOU CHOOSE TO SAY ABOUT YOURSELF
Disciple Aranu and Disciple Momaki had productive work this evening. It began with Aranu's observation of a significant detail in his biography that a pilot included with his profile. This detail had to do with the death of his parents and how it motivates thefts and violence. Aranu continued conversation with him, noting his isolation, unforgivness, and loneliness. This pilot responded with more wit than most pilots we encounter. He also showed enough self control to not be easily provoked. He responded with only minor insults on a couple exchanges. I think what was most productive about the whole exchange, and Aranu may think differently, was that the pilot presented himself as a person of principle, but his encounter with us showed that his principles were weak. This caused pain, and he left the system. We did what we could do.
Another pilot was also challenged on the basis of what he wrote in his own bio. His motto, "kill or be killed" represents the typical fear that most pilots live in or rather "die" in. The pilot's avatar name also represented a wish of sorts; a wish to not be killed. Before much help could be given this pilot, he launched into a torrent of insults and then, blocked our conversation. Being blocked is usually a good indication that the chord has been struck.
The Disciples of Ston wish both of these pilots peace. Always a pleasure to work with Disciple Aranu.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

SPEAK IN THE LANGUAGE OF PEACE UNTIL YOU ARE UNDERSTOOD
A great mentor of old spoke these words to me a long, long time ago. They form the foundation of self-control and deliberation that characterize the way the Disciples of Ston communicate with the capsuleers of New Eden.
"Until you are understood?" This could be a long, long time. Peace is the single most foreign concept and thus foreign language one can speak in New Eden. Tonight, in Piekura, some seemed to begin to grasp this strange language, others sort of said, "huh?" Still others spoke the lingua-franca of violence. I was destroyed by a pilot who struggled with the concept that anyone could live a life without a concern over losing a ship. In the capsule or in the clone the Disciples have the bare minimum. This means, that the sneers of those who destroy our "free" ships do not penetrate. This frustrates most.
Let the frustration help you translate the language of peace. Stop your violence and stop caring about accumulating more for one hour. Find peace and enjoy it.
Peace is what we bid you. Good night and good dreams.

Corporate news:
The news is that there is no news. That is good from my perspective. Every Monday, our endowment generates enough income to cover the rent in our two offices. There is left over ISK coming in to cover office expansion if it is needed.
Now from news to opinion: I think the Disciples ought to consider training their existing members in infomorph psycology and each getting 3-4 jump clones. Face reality, it is doubtful that you are going to have a fresh batch of new recruits anytime soon. With jump clones, each of you could get out their and try new systems much faster.
Just a thought. The only problem, Ston, is that you couldn't call yourself "unskilled" anymore.

YOU ARE BRAVE, DISCIPLE ARANU!
No Disciple, neither Dawn, nor Manwe, nor I every get used to having our vessels destroyed. We especially never grow nonchalant about being podded. And we shouldn't. The advent of cloning has had an adverse effect on even our own self respect of physical life. So, when a disciple takes the risk of helping someone let go of the chains of possession, knowing that violence will be the retribution, I call that brave.
Disciple Aranu has shown a knack for finding the pilot with the most issues and then awakening a reaction. She was destroyed twice tonight in the performance of her mission. This left me and even other pilots in the system to confront the pilot and challenge him to show true bravery. Killing with rights does not equal bravery. I challenged him to join me in one hour of work together with me; to shed his powerful ship, become unarmed and take our risks for an hour. No was his answer. So, I offered him a shot at an unarmed Ibis without rights. Without rights: so the risk would be real and the bravery real. No was the answer.
Bravery is when we face the enemies within, the character deficits that need to be beaten. Bravery is when we exercise self-control rather than the quick way of violence. Bravery is when we take the time to invest in a life of another when we could have been accumulating more ISK. Bravery is never boring. Why are so many pilots bored? Perhaps it is because they are not brave.
Special thanks also to Manwe. I have seen some of your methods in Abudban and copied them. The "brave" question, I got from you. It is a great question to ask. We got a gift from a pilot this evening. I think I'll use it to issue a decoration of bravery to Disciple Aranu.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night.

ARE WE SEXIST FOR FEELING THIS WAY?
In the process of asking our other Disciple Manwe and our Corporate manager, Edaine about awarding Aranu a decoration for bravery I have discovered a common thread in our hearts. We all feel concerned when she is fired upon while doing her work. We all admire her bravery and intelligence in the performance of her duties, and we all feel great pride in calling her "Disciple" and "Aranu." Now the potential thin ice. We feel brotherly towards this sister Disciple, somewhat protective, and very proud.
Now, Aranu, no one asked you first before we agreed to award you this decoration, and maybe that was wrong or presumptuous. If so, please forgive us for this weakness of brotherly affection. Please understand that we respect and admire your ability, courage, and growing mastery of the work. Maybe this reaction was inappropriate. But, if a person can do a wrong thing with the best motives, then this is such a time. Your brother disciples are honored to be associated with you and hope that you will accept the decoration that has been awarded to you in spite of the humility that the Disciples are to show.
The Disciples of Ston bid one and all peaceful coexistence and sufficient rest.

YOU END UP PROVING THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU SET OUT TO PROVE
If there is one thing the Disciples of Ston consistently expose it is this. The capsuleer is a being that is full of self-deception and sometimes so insecure and so eager to prove something, that they leave the most fundamental aspect of their soul unguarded.
The Capsuleer prides himself on his ability to be self-determined, self-guided, self-motivated, etc. Is this so? For some, perhaps, for many, no. Piekura, like many systems in Eve has regular residents. We get to know each other and we tolerate each other's idiosycracies. It is the stranger that comes in with pistols blaring, that makes himself vulnerable to influence. So it was the case earlier this evening in Piekura.
The conversation began, like many with the typical blah blah blah of stupid sexuality and boring bravado. The disciple of Ston bears with such tedium to reveal one singular point. You are not in control. The conversation culminates with a simple statement that I am retiring station side for a little reading... and, by the way, I have controlled your destiny for the last half hour.
It isn't useless items that I have stolen from your wrecks; it is your mind that I have fastened upon and kept held in conversation. If you think you live in a self-determined state, you are deceived. If a fool of a philosopher in an unarmed Ibis can freeze you for one half hour of your life, imagine what true power could do to you.
Don't let this self knowledge offend you and don't be defensive. recognise it and start your journey to freedom. You will never know freedom until you recognise the prison you are in
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace, freedom, and good night.

I SEE A NEED FOR MERCY
I ran across a pilot that Aranu and myself had spoken to some time ago. This pilot lost his parents in an industrial accident when he was a young child. The Disciples of Ston try to show mercy when we see people in particular pain. However, I wonder how much more whole people in this universe would be if more showed mercy instead of the typical violence, or worse, indifference. This pilot has found way of coping with his grief by performing a strange ritual of industrial policing. Much healing is needed in the souls of so many.
On a stranger note: I do believe I will be sleeping on the couch tonight. I just can't seem to lie down on the bed in my quarters for some strange reason. Perhaps my neural interface is effecting my motor abilities. I also seem to be walking into walls and I feel so stiff. I hope these strange feelings straighten themselves out.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and a good night's rest even if it is on the couch.

THEFT THAT IS NOT SO PETTY
What happens when you take from people that which they take for granted? When capsuleers, in particular, because of their attitude of invulnerability and invincibility, see the predictability of their existence challenged, it brings out a very predictable reaction. But first...
I have observed the non-capsuleer world from many lense from simple observation to the reading of history, biography and autobiography. Mere mortals may deny the aspect of change initially, but do not cling to denial like capsuleers tend to do. Non-capsuleers are used to haveing control taken from them by ordinary events in life. Capsuleers have been captured by the delusion of control that they think they possess.
Denial, the reaction I have observed when taking a few changes and focussing on them intently. The observations I have made are not revolutionary, but when pared with suggestion, it brings insecurity out of the wood work. Denial takes the form of everything from dismissal to outright lying about what is happening in an individual experience.
This begs a question. Is it right to play upon basic insecurity? You answer that question on your own. Right or wrong, it is necessary; necessary to expose the mistaken notion that anyone is immortal, even the mighty capsuleer.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good rest...maybe

DO I HAVE THE TIME TO PURSUE THIS?
When the Disciples of Ston work out in the systems, the most common inner trumoil we discover is frustration expressing itself in anger. Most often this anger strikes out and attempts to denigrate others in whatever way possible. If you have read here before, you know what I am saying. Insult, personal attack, profanity, accusations, etc.
Yesterday, I set upon an experiment to do a sort of "Disciple work" here on this forumn because it is another place that capsuleer "live." As should have predictable, the exact same reactions occurred as do out in space. My only questions is, "Do I have the time to work both places?" We use angry responses to try to help people discover self-mastery by first recognizing their own anger and spite.
The interactions may be found here http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1534314 What I have to decide now is whether or not to directly address the issue of anger or to try to dig it out a bit more first. Our real work is in space and this IGS is only a reporting function. Should I really be workin here?

IF WE BURN OUT, HERE'S WHY
While I am on my way back to Piekura, I am catching up on Manwe's log. I am pretty sure, we dealt with the same, "12" year old pilot. Unfortunately, I pretty sure this individual is not twelve but rather much older. Sadly, his devopment is indeed quite arrested.
Now Disciples, part of what make you who you are is the determination to stick with a job and pursue it to the end. That is good sometimes and not good sometimes. After 45 minutes to and hour of listening to "12's" endless sexual monologue, one feels pukishly tired. Disciples, you have permission to sign off when you feel fatigued in these situations.
Having worked with Aranu enough times to discern a pattern, I have found that she will leave system after shorts stints of work. This is healthy. Manwe, you don't have to talk to every pervert out there and don't think that you can help every one of them to grow up.
Let's try to find those who are receptive and see if we can gain ground with them.
You know, I don't think I'll work tonight when I get to Piekura. I think I'll pop out, say hi to those on local and then hit the couch and read.
The Disciples of Ston bid peace to those with good will to others.

AN IRKSOME NON-SEQUITOR
A particular justification of violence is justification for violence in other situations. This non-sequitor is often encountered by the Disciples of Ston. I recently encouraged a highly experienced warrior who was retiring from a particularly violent career to consider more peaceful pursuits. Someone responded that my pacifism did not take into account the need for violence in the defense of freedom. The functional pacifism of the disciples more than adequately takes into account any justifiable violence in the preservation of peace, defense of the innocents, etc.
Eggers in high sec space do not "need" to be violent, ever. In the context of the Disciples of Ston in High Sec space, violence is always gratuitous, unnecessary, and unfortunately, poorly justified.
Observe, local pirate factions will not ever exceed very limitted number in any system at any particular time. Any pilot can verify this. Run or shield tank. When has any capsuleer ever been noble in their use of violence to defend freedom? Freedom to accumulate large quantities of ISK, perhaps, but that is as far as the "freedom goes."
Ask the capsuleer what is worth fighting for. What is the truthful answer? ISK or sadism (kill boards, etc) is at the bottom of every violent motive. Would any clone pilot run agent missions on principle if there were not reward? I doubt it. Incursion prevention...perhaps there is a possibility.
So wired into ISK is our culture here, that even our "freedom loving governments" (Gallente and Minmatar) provide no way for pilots to free slaves that are rescued during violent clashes. Perhaps if the Gallente and Minmatar would stand on principle, I would concede a real justifiable need for violence at times. Perhaps then, I might suspend my functional pacifism to even assist in such a violent act of liberation.
Up to now, I have yet to hear one logically coherent argument for high sec capsuleer violence.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peacefully obtained peace.

NEW SERVICE PROVIDED BY THE DISCIPLES OF STON: CORPSE RETURN SERVICE
It has been the long time concern of the Disciples of Ston to bring an awareness to New Eden of the need to diminish violence and add dignity and honor to the existence of the capsuleer.
A great shame upon humanity in this galaxy is the treatment of clone bodies lost in violent encounters in space. They are often sold for a profit to the owners by shucksters in for a quick ISK, or they are distilled into the latest quafe product.
Individually, the Disciples have endeavored to return corpses to their owners, but there is such distrust in this universe, that corpse owners have doubted the sincerity of our efforts. We are now going to consolidate our efforts through a centrally administrated Corpse return service.
Thanks to the efforts of Disciple Manwe, who 1. first made an effort to return a corpse, 2. first thought to turn on his biomass filter setting on his scanner and 3. made a great effort in Jita the last two days to retrieve corpses from the chaos of violence going on there,we have made a start. I was also able to retrieve a body during a short time there this evening.
Below are the names of the owners of the bodies we have recovered. We would like to see to it that you receive these bodies back so they can be treated according to your own death rites.
Andrew Carnege Alexander Omega Florenze Jellybird Cold Purvanen Amarrian Temptress
We are willing to return these bodies by private contract at our own expense free of charge to the owner. The owners need only travel to Korama to pick them up. If that is a hardship, we are willing to travel a resonable distance and deliver a body if so requested.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Many pilots peddle in the sale of clone bodies. For those who are better than that, will you help us recover bodies? Many of you travel in low sec or null sec space. Because the Disciples stay in high sec space, we can only find very few bodies. We are asking the good pilots of New Eden to collect, save, and contract to our CEO Edaine Numenor any bodies you can find for our service. Feel free to write your contract to recoup your contract costs but no more, please. Please contract them to the nearest high sec station convenient to you. Or you may contact any Disciple to arrange pick up.
Perhaps if we put a little dignity back into death, there will be a little less death.
The Disciples of Ston wish you peace and long life.

THOUSANDS OF PILOTS AND OUR IMPACT IS SO SMALL
Work began tonight in Piekura with the usual MO. Sometimes I find it a little discouraging when I think of the thousands of clone pilots that are engulfed in a philosophy of greed and violence and how difficult it is to dislodge this philosophy in favor of more temperate pursuits. In spite of this discouragement, it was confirmed again that our method of petty theft continues to be the most effective means of gentle provocation to open pilots up to change and self-knowledge. I was asked tonight if I enjoyed stealing? I don't. But I will keep doing it if it helps me open a crack into the souls of my fellow pilots.
So far, no movement on our new service of returning bodies to their owners. Last night we published the owners of the bodies we have recovered to date. We are barely scratching the surface if that. If other pilots would help us, it would make a big difference.
After making a quick round through the belts of Piekura, I went back into Jita to check on things. There were only eight ships firing on the memorial. Local com was about an equal mix of political debate and sales adds. One could say, that Jita is sliding back to "normal." Please don't confuse the word "normal" with "good." Jita is a place of violence and greed; selfishness and self-service. It is not a center of civilization by any stretch.
I would love for the Disciples to be able to accomplish more, but the odds are long and we are stretched way too thin.
I bid the Disciples of Ston peace, for they need it to persevere in the task.
Good night.

ANGERRRRRRR!
This is my main topic tonight, because it is so frequently encountered in space. As the Disciples of Ston encounter the anger that is resident within the clone pilot, we first must acknowledge our own. What provokes anger in a a Disciple? Well, Manwe and Aranu will have to answer themselves. What makes Ston Angry? Some may already know the answer to that question. My anger has been exposed on this forum in the past. If I perceive betrayal by a friend, I will get angry. Notice, I said "perceive." Sometimes we get angry merely at a false idea. The was the case with me.
Impatience is a close cousin of anger. I get impatient when a pilot is on the cusp of self-knowledge and then turns back to folly. I have gotten angry when this has happened. Anger most often has to do with loss; loss of trust, loss of influence...
Now to the capsuleer... One could say that the task of the Disciples of Ston is to expose anger and the reasons behind it. Most capsuleer anger is rooted in the loss of assets that have been worked or labored after for a period of time. Sometimes this anger is channeled toward the Disciples after a trivial theft. My guess is that the anger is really towards someone of greater power who took something of significant value. We merely become the pin cushion, weak enough to strike without major consequence.
So, once we expose that anger, then what? Perhaps I can explain it this way: The Disciples hope not to eradicate anger in this universe, but to help people become angry for better reasons. Can anger be Noble? History seems to vindicate a "yes" to that question. Instead of being angry over the loss of a ship, let us be angry over the loss of human dignity. Here is an ironic statement for you to chew on for a while, "Let's get angry over our loss of self-control." Am I suggesting self-controlled anger? Yes.
One last thought tonight. To the fine Gallente who commented above: Yes I have something to hide. I have much to hide. I have inconsistencies in my life like you do. I have mixed motives sometimes like you do. I don't always live up to my ideals. No one completely does. That is probably why we consider "privacy" a basic human dignity. It gives us space to attempt to crawl out of our inconsistencies as we strive to grow.
If my life ever becomes an open book, it will be one without an index. You will have to read it to find the secrets.
The Disciples of Ston bid you a peaceful night

LESSONS FROM JITA: BOREDOM
What is the difference between Boredom and Tedium? This is a fine point of experience that adults learn early in the realm of work and duty. Capsuleers, on the other hand...
Capsuleers are much like adolescents in their understanding of boredom. It is a large part of their vocabulary and they regularly confuse boredom with tedium. Adults know that duty and work sometimes involve tedium, but I do not remember the last time I heard a non-capsuleer adult complain about boredom.
Now to the lesson from Jita. When I left the system tonight, there was but one little reaper shooting at the memorial. All the mighty vessels had gone back to their "more interesting" activities. What started out as something that all the participants thought of as a matter of principle, became tedious...or, in capsuleer/adolescent terms, BORING!
Now don't be underwhelmed by this observation. This is a pathetic situation. Standing on your values or for a cause will lead to times of tedium. That is adult life, my fine clone pilot. Clones tend to fizzle out because they cannot tolerate tedium. "I'm bored" (intonation: whine). "This just isn't fun anymore." If the capsuleer is to emotionally, ethically, morally, and spiritually grow beyond his egg, he must learn to endure tedium for the sake of persistent causes and values.
Sometimes, I am asked if I get bored as a Disciple of Ston. My answer is an unqualified, never. However, I do find some of our work tedious. I find the endless profanity, sexual buffoonery, and the intellectual pusillanimity of some clone pilots to be exceedingly tedious. The Disciples persist in their work because it is an enduring value to do so. Sometimes we have to endure tedium. It is a risk of trying to help the capsuleer community grow into more mature and complete souls.
Glad to be back in Piekura. Jita will have to be a place that I visit frequently. There is much to learn and do there.
The Disciples of Ston bid you deep measure of peace.

A CALL FOR COGNITIVE DISSONANCE
Yes, you heard me right. What clone pilots need more of; a lot more; much, much more; is cognitive dissonance. Pilot training is still conducted as if the pilot was not a clone. Reflexes are honed to kill. Greed is also a finely honed skill. Greed, violence, hatred, malice, and abject selfishness do not produce the inner turmoil that they ought. If they did, perhaps restraint might grow as a skill and the universe would change for better. Cognitive dissonance leads to regret and regret leads to a change of mind. When we sincerely change our mind about a habit or way of living, there is hope that we can take a new direction.
Suggested starting points:
1. Don't kill every rat you see just because you can. In other words, let cognitive dissonance make you think twice before firing.
2. Make a business decision based on "interest" rather than profit. Open a factory to make something interesting even if it doesn't turn a profit. Restrain your greed.
3. Next time someone trash talks you, don't trash back. Learn the deep satisfaction of self-control.
4. Quit your work early now and then just to read a good book. Expanding your mind is a great way to call into question your assumptions and personal rationalizations. Yes, the pain of cognitive dissonance is good. No pain no gain, as they say.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

WHEN WORK IS INTERRUPTED BY PEACE AND QUIET
I had every intention of being busy about the work of the Disciples this evening. That intention was interrupted by peace and quiet. Piekura was very low on activity this evening, so I headed off to a 0.4 system adjacent to Korama where I had heard that there was outlaw activity. I found only seven pilots in system and absolute peace. I even brought back a little peace of kernite just to look at. Sorry to say, I had never seen any before.
My mind is tired tonight, so I will not dig into anything deep or profound. I think I will enjoy a cold glass of water and bid you all a peaceful night.

DSTON Corporate News:
A portion of our endowment interest has been spent to purchase an infomorph psychology skill book for Disciple Manwe Todako. He would like to use jump clones as a means to be more mobile in his work. I won't bother to try and explain that. At this time neither Disciple Ston nor Disciple Aranu have expressed interest in that type of training.
I will say that Manwe's desire to work in the trade hubs is interesting work. I visited Rens and saw what he has referred to a a "wretched hive of scum and villainy."
Although I paid slightly over market price so as to avoid a long trip, we are in good shape financially and are keeping up our rent in our HQ in Korama and office in Ren's.
I applaud Manwe's decision to do this and hope that Ston and Aranu may follow suit.

DEATH: HO HUM
Disciples of Ston fly rookie frigates with no weapons, rigs, or anything that requires any crew assistance. The risks we take, we take alone. I have often commented on the attitude that capsuleers have towards death. It is time to clarify just what I mean by that.
How many crew members' deaths are you responsible for? How many widows and orphans are you responsible for in your exploits in space. Do you know and care how many non-capsuleers man your frigates, destroyers, battleships, etc? Do you know there names? Do you attend their memorial services? Do you meet their widows, their sons and daughters bereft of a parent?
What about the crew of the other ship; the one you are attacking? You know that the pilot will sail away in his pod and be back for more another day. But the crew, the non-clone crew that has only one life. What of them? You kill them and they do not come back.
Cloning has bread a sinister kind of selfishness; one that does not give even one second thought to the crews that are killed in each violent encounter.
I am not finished. Do you know what life is like for the colonists on your planetary colonies? Do you know what kind of work it is to be a miner on a lava planet? Do you understand the financial desperation involved in signing on for that kind of work? How many die in work related accidents so you can lay your golden egg? There is a passive kind of violence perpetrated by the capsuleer. It is called "greed."
So, whether active or passive, most capsuleers are violent; most are guilty of murder; most do not care; most never see the faces of their crews or colonists.
The Disciples of Ston bid you anxiety, unrest, and emotional dissonance until you face the truth about who you are. |

INTENTIONAL NAIVETE, HABITUAL GREED, AND THE CONTINUED JUSTIFICATION OF MURDER
In a recent statement on the slaughter of non-clone crews by Concord standard procedure, I discovered Concord being vigorously defended by one particular capsuleer rather keen on the status quo in New Eden. The regular slaughter of human beings apparently helps create a stable political environment where clones can go about their business accumulating ever more and killing ever more and more.
What is particularly troubing is the intentional naivete that serves to soothe the conscience of those who participate in the killing. Do we really believe that if the combined sovereignties via Concord say that all crew members must sign a contract that they understand and fully embrace the risks of serving a clone pilot, then we are all truly naive.
Greed keeps the capsuleer killing and greed keeps Concord killing. It is much cheaper to kill the crew and let the capsuleer float off in his capsule than to spend the resources to sort out culpability and do true justice. But that's too much work. Lets just assume that the crews are all highly intelligent, literate, cool headed individuals who were given every bit of information they needed before being wisked off into space on some insane capsuleer's violent adeventure. To do otherwise would require the exercise of conscience, intelligence, moral restraint and maybe even goodness.
GOODNESS...that is another topic.
The Disciples of Ston bid you deep and profound grief over the deaths of thousands upon thousands of human men and women serving as crews upon capsuleer ships. |

"Issues... can be addressed by filing a formal petition with CONCORD at our offices at Yulai VIII - Moon 10 - CONCORD Logistic Support"
This is what I have been told I must do to address the callousness of those who administrate this communication service. The suggestion that Minmatar slaves be brought in by the Amarr to be forced to use their technical expertise without pay and under threat of torture or death... and I must trust Concord to do justice? I am not feeling particularly hopeful, but I am going to Yulai anyway.

THE CORPOREALITY OF OUR CONSCIOUSNESS
A great sadness of my work is that I have never been able to recover my clone body any of the numerous times I have been pod killed. I know also the same is true for Manwe. To look upon the vessel that housed my consciousness, upon fingers that wrote, voice that spoke, lips that tasted the sweet and sour of a cool lemonade and to grieve the loss of that ever so familiar friend called the body of flesh, this is loss to me; the loss of the corporeality of my consciousness.
I had a conversation this evening that reminded me of why I feel a passion for my fellow capsuleers. We, as sentient beings have lost the ability to deeply grieve. To grieve is to acknowledge that we can lose something or someone of great importance. I am not referring to the loss of a ship or business or sovereignty. I am referring to the loss of something intrinsically connected to our consciousness. Grieving snaps us back to our humanity and saves us from drifting beyond sight of the shore of that humanity.
A big THANKS to the fellow Achura who spoke with me this evening. Sister, please believe that you have not lost sight of that shore. Please. Your speaking showed me that you still feel loss. Grieve it and acknowledge your humanity.
Another thanks to fellow pilots of Piekura. I could not spend but a moment upon my return. Your greetings were a reminder that being away is loss and coming back is gain. Both together define the contrasts of humanity like the lemon and the sugar in perfect combination in a glass of lemonade.
Dear Capsuleer, do not fear the remnants of your humanity; the parts of you that can lose and experience that loss as grief. Taste the tension and balance of that experience and do not resist it.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and good night
P.S. These things remind me to redouble our efforts in the Clone body return service.

EVEN IDEALISTS HAVE TO DO ADMINISTRATION SOMETIMES
I have always disliked administrative tasks, but they have to be done from time to time. The pleasant surprise about tonight, was that this admin task was actually quite fulfilling. I sent out eight notices to the owners of clone remains that the Disciples have picked up in recent days. We are offering to drop off and contract to the owners at any High Sec station of their choice, all at our own expense.
Grief is a fundamental human experience and it is one of the tender threads that holds the capsuleer in kinship with his full human brothers and sisters. To look upon your own body and remember experiences that were integrated in that body is a key experience of wholeness for the the ever-disintegrating metaphysic of the capsuleer.
I only hope we will have some takers.
A DISAPPOINTMENT
Usually, when I check in to an evening's work, I scan the local com to see who is around. Tonight, the minute I was in system, I received a com from my brother in a distant part of the galaxy. We spoke for a good half hour before I even checked the local com. When I did, I saw no familiar names. My heart sank. I still feel a bit melancholic. But that is human, afterall.
Future subjects: Infomorph, Capsuleer, Clone. These three terms mean different things and they are all integrated in some way. I will be tossing them up into the philosophical atmosphere to see where they land in days ahead.
The Disciples of Ston say, if you feel sad when you miss your friends, be glad that you have friends.
Peace and Rest to you.

BEGINNING TO FORMULATE DEFINITIONS
An infomorph is a person who_________________ A Capsuleer is a person who __________________ An animated clone is a person who______________
I begin with essential personhood or sentience. This immediately introduces problems in formulating defintion #1. Strictly speaking, a true, pure, technically accurate infomorph only exists as an entity separate from the corporeal body. What is the personal identity of an infomorph? Is an infomorph conscious? If so, is the infomorph self-conscious? I have yet to meet any Capsuleer that can articulate his or her consciousness while in the intermediate state between corporealizations. It seems that our evolution, as of yet, has not allowed us a self actualization outside of the strict tie of memory engrams to the neuro-chemical nest of the brain and body. Even the most ephemeral capsuleer still expresses existence with words and concepts completely tied into the biofeedback loop.
So, let no discussion range in speculation beyond those verifiable observations? No, I doubt we can restrain the inquisitiveness of speculation. The mystery remains that is best exposed by the question, "Is a strict infomorph a person?"
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace?

ANIMATED CLONE
When the infomorph animates the clone body outside of the confines of the capsule, this is the closest kinship to humanity that we experience for the most part. Infomorph animated clones apart from the protection of the capsule and in particular, detached from the cranial scanner and engram transmitter...; the corporealized infomorph is vulnerable. He or she can be killed in the very traditional human sense of the word.
Here we are also exposed the the great experiences of humanity. Here our violence, if we choose to exercise it, is much more visceral than in the pod. Here we eat and taste. Here we speak by actually forcing atmosphere through our throats and over our tongues. Here, we use our functional body parts for various purposes as do all humans. True biofeedback is experienced here. Here our mental and spiritual states are physically integrated.
Both Manwe and I have discovered that the clone who spends too much time in the egg, is reduced to talking much about sexuality likely because they do little of the same. Only the animated clone can use the genitals and related body parts for their great design. The capsuleer talks, the animated clone is able to do.
To maintain kinship with our humanity, we must risk leaving the egg.
WHY I VISIT JITA
I payed a quick visit to Jita tonight after a time of working in Piekura. Why? On the off chance of picking up a clone corpse; and I did. I contacted the owner and then took it back to Korama for storage.
Remind me to reflect on how some Achura are losing their identity the longer they live as capsuleers. I found evidence of this tonight in Piekura.Time for a cool glass of water and then rest.

BRIGHT AND BUBBLY
"Captain Sunnymuffins" How do you like that for the name a pilot would choose for his alias? Now guess his security status... Give up? Minus 10. Yep. Now we Disciples find this to be an interesting pattern throughout the universe. Bright and bubbly names paired with extraordinary violence.
I returned from my planetside travals and was feeling very tired, so instead of working in Piekura tonight, I decided to take one quick run into Jita and see if I could pick up a corpse for our body return service. Whose body to do I stumble into? Captain Sunnymuffins.
We do not discriminate who we serve in this capacity, so, in spite of the minus ten status, we are happy to return Mr. Muffin's body to him at our expense. I wonder who killed him...

HUMAN ERROR AND THE FRAILTY OF COMMUNICATION
I was sleepy tonight. Combine that with an attempt to do a little Disciple work including using the local com channel...and...miscommunication. Tiredness always reduces my accuracy in communicating.
Example: Intended statement: "I have been killed and pod killed many times; I know the risks." What I actually wrote: "I have killed and pod killed many times; I know the risks." One word missing and the opposite of my intention is communicated. O to err is human. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER RETURNING TO SIMPLE MORTALITY?
More on that question in a moment, but first...
All current definitions of consciousness are bracketed in philosophical categories that include biofeedback language and concepts. Those who would put forth a claim that the disembodied infomorph is conscious are caught in a philosophical and language conundrum. This is not an issue if you accept consciousness as an integrated product of mind and body. Once the two are separate, well?
Now to the question. Most of our cultures have developed ways to embrace mortality. It is the unique property of the capsuleer to draw the fear of death to its logical conclusion; hence the existence of the mind/personality/brain engram with potentially countless embodiments.
Religion claims that there is a reality beyond death. Many capsuleers claim to hold to these beliefs, but I don't believe that the capsuleer is being entirely genuine in this regard. Where are the capsuleers who have placed themselves back in the realm of the simple mortal? Where are those who have forsaken the "next body" and settled that the current body be the last? If there are any, none have come forward to declare their "faith" that I am aware.
These are observations, not judgments. The Disciples only wish to help you understand yourself and live honestly.
The Disciples of Ston bid you pleasant thoughts and dreams.

ANY BODY WILL DO
Perhaps the closest indication that the infomorph is slowly becoming estranged from humanity is the cavalier attitude that capsuleers have toward their bodies. While preserving the strong human characteristic of vanity in the grooming of face, body, and clothing, the attitude toward the loss of body is astoundingly ho hum. As long as another clone body is available, that's all that matters. We have seen this in the singular lack of interest that pilots have in providing proper rites after being pod killed.
Clone bodies, while similar, are not identical. Cloning is misunderstood in that regard. The integration of mind with body immediately changes both the body and the mind. Thought generates chemical changes in the brain that impact the entire biochemical structure of the body. These changes in turn, impact the mind. The mental patterns upon entering a clone body are immediately changes and continue changing as long as that incarnation exists.
ALARMING TRUTH
When you are pod killed and enter a new body, you are not the same person. No, indeed... because the mind/body combination is different and will develop differently than it would have in the previous body. Upon entering a different bio-chemical vessel, the mental patterns will immediately reintegrate differently in the new body.
Without making too great a value judgment at this time, I would venture to say that I think it is a diminishing of the self to hurry past our losses without acknowledgment, without proper grief. This is a loss of something essentially human. Some may say, good riddens. I say that we are perhaps losing the core of our moral and ethical framework.
The Disciples of Ston bid you, "Be Cautious!"

Brother Ston, I sincerely hope that your speculations are not true. If they are, I may be in a bit of trouble. You do need to address the issues of memory and continuity of social experience as evidence that the integrity of consciousness is, at the very least, mostly intact after pod death and re-integration. Not to discourage your speculative venture, and you raise important points, but self-consciousness seems to be a durative function for the capsuleer across many incarnations.

This log entry will appear in both Manwe Todako's log and Ston Momaki's log and is part of a joint research effort.
While in New Eden, I began to discover an odd phenomenon related to what happens to perception in very close proximity to the system sun. I contacted Ston to have him confirm the data back in Piekura where there are multiple orbital plains and where navigation is a bit easier.
A standard warp drive will place you within a few hundred thousand km of a stellar object. However, one can quickly reach the center of a stellar object by bookmarking coordinates and then bookmarking as you pass through the stellar center.
We fully expected that the warp drive distance limitation was a designed safety feature and to get closer, would result in ship destruction and pod destruction. However, we had heard of strange experiences occurring as pilots approached suns ever closer. We wanted to test it. I used the New Eden sun and Ston used the Piekura sun. We were both able to make observations within the sun corona without damage to our ships.
How is this possible? Were we experiencing visual anomalies due to heat and gravity? We would like to have some other pilots help us with this project and report their findings here. We have coordinates that we are willing to share for both the New Eden sun and the Piekura sun which should place any pilot within the corona. Contact Manwe Todako for coordinates in New Eden and Ston Momaki for Piekura.
If anyone has a reasonable explanation for what seems impossible, please share it.

Dear Pilot physicists, I will attempt, with my limited technical ability to provide access to two camera drone images. If successful, this is what you will see: Image 1 is from inside the Piekura sun and seems to suggest what Manwe called a persistent warp bubble inside the sun surrounding the ship. The second image is what is disturbing and begs explanation. Image two is a camera drone from outside the sun while I was inside the sun. I was shocked. It appears as if the sun core and the corona are separate. If you look closely, you will see the box representing my ship is very close to the core. Could a warp field do this? Also, when the ship is moving, the corona image jumps erratically. Image one Image two
The Disciples of Ston concern themselves with all that concerns the capsuleer. This begs explanation. Anyone who has ideas, we want to know them. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

PRELIMINARY THOUGHTS
1. The mass of a star already warps space around it and within it. 2. The warp field of a ship is directional and interacts with the sun in "maybe" "predictable" ways. 3. A camera drone's images are transmitted and interpreted by the computer of the capsuleer vessel whose warp field is interacting with the warp generated by the sun. (The image above is one of several that were taken by multiple camera drones orbiting the sun. The corona and stellar core were always separate) 4. There needs to be more study. What would happen to an infomorph if it were to leave the capsule while in the stellar core?
The Disciples of Ston bid you the adventure of a mystery.

JOINT STATEMENT OF THE DISCIPLES OF STON
Extraordinary! This is the best word to describe what has happened this morning. First, thanks to Manwe for getting us started on this research. Second, thanks to Edaine for taking time and expense to assist us to the concluding event of today. Edaine took a specially equipped Minmatar frigate with a sustained speed of 3131 M/S and traveled from the coordinates I provided straight on into the stellar core. Upon reaching the core, there was a massive release of energy that accelerated his ship almost instantly to well over 300,000,000 M/S to a distance out to 900,000 from the stellar mass. The camera drone image below shows the quickest reaction Edaine could muster as his ship was blown away from the stellar mass. The velocity reading at that point was 325,748,224 M/S. Wow! You will need to load the image and view the larger shot to see the velocity meter number.
hitting the stellar core
We feel that this is an experience to share with all capsuleers and not keep secret. We want to provide the last bookmark recorded before hitting the core. From this waypoint one can fly towards the core. Do this manually. If you try to use the "approach" setting on your Nav it will show error. Instead choose a point right next to the stellar core and head to it. Depending on the speed of your ship, in a short time you will hit the core and be impacted by an enormous release of energy. This is nothing like warping. The acceleration ought to kill you, but it doesn't. It ought to destroy your ship, but it doesn't.
Because we are relative new at space exploration as capsuleers,we are not sure of the most efficient way to get this stellar waypoint out to the community of pilots who may want to test this experience for themselves. Any ideas? We used the Piekura star. Anyone who wants the coordinate can contact us and we will get it to you somehow.

TIME TO REWRITE THE MANUAL?
The Disciples of Ston my be evolving into something different. Sorry, I correct myself; of course we are evolving into something different. To refuse such change is to stagnate and die. Our values still revolve around the capsuleer and her kinship with humanity. How do we help to nurture this? I still find our original methods effective, but there are also new pursuits. If the infomorph is becoming its own consciousness, how do we help it to be a "good" consciousness as opposed to "evil." Moral philosophy is messy at any turn and few want to walk in the mud of it. The Disciples chose to walk that muddy path whether through science or the gentle provocation of petty theft and its accompaniment of conversation.
I will be taking up the task of revising our manual. Hmm, time to grieve ideas that need to go perhaps while affirming others.
Time for a cool glass of water.

DISTILLING METHODS FROM VALUES
Our training manual dictates the methods used by the Disciples of Ston. These methods reflect how I chose to begin this journey and reflect it here on these pages. But we are changing. Are our basic values changing? I do not believe so. We share a concern that the capsuleer come to self-knowledge and an embracing of basic goodness. We are non-violent; that must rule our method(s). Must we use petty theft? No. May we use it? Yes. What concerns the peace and well being of humanity continues to concern us. However, we are finding different methods and more refined methods.
As I begin to revise our training manual, method must become flexible and individually defined by our values. This will take time.
We have a vision and desire to bring a non-violent presence to very violent places in New Eden. We cannot do this only through our current methods. We have imprisoned our vision with restricted method. I take most of the responsibility for this. Now the humbling work of taking apart my own work, begins. Revise, revise, revise!

DISCIPLE MANWE TO BE EXTENSIVELY TRAINED
We have come to realize that if we are to expand our message of peace and non-violence to the outer reaches of the galaxy, we need disciples that are trained with the necessary skills to do the work. If you have followed this log from the beginning, you know that this is a major change in philosophy and method. There are two areas that we would like to commission Manwe to work on. 1. a presence in low sec, null sec, and sub null space. 2. An ability to persist in those areas without being repeatedly pod killed. 3. An ability to expand our clone body return service to more possible clientele through access to lower security space. Al of this needs to be done without violence. Skill in preservation will be the focus.
To do this, we are going to be training Manwe for an extended period of time to operate the necessary equipment and vessels to remain alive in these areas of space. Edaine has always said that he may give up the reigns of control in the Corporation. I need to be prepared to assume his roles at the time he chooses to depart unto other priorities. Korama and Piekura and Jita will remain my areas of focus for the time being.

YOU ARE NOT A TRAITOROUS RECTAL OPENING
By "you" am referring to humanity and capsuleer humanity as a whole. Though some may act that way and even self identify the same, the Disciples of Ston are hopeful for better in you.
Tonight was interesting work. In my interactions I was destroyed once. But, something good happened. The discussion opened up to the distrust that capsuleers feel toward one another. I posed the question, "Why is there such distrust, that capsuleers refuse to accept a simple gift. One response was that "people" are "traitorous" "rectal openings" (different word, of course). This was followed by the question, "what is the gift?" What a perfect question to ask. This question brings out the simplicity of human curiosity and the thirst for knowledge and experience.
A trip to the stellar core. One pilot accepted the gift in spite of warnings that it was a trap. There was no ISK value, no killing, no typical gain, just a different experience. One of the most difficult tasks in this universe is getting people to accept simple gifts of experience freely shared with no strings attached. Tonight, that happened and I am grateful for it.
Sorry, Manwe, no scientific explanations were exchanged either.

A MERE HUMAN I KNOW WHO LIVES ON A PLANET
I recently visited a friend planet side. He lives a simple human life with his family. He is not a violent man, but he kills. Each year, he supplies meat for his family by hunting a native mammal. This herbivore is in plentiful supply and the government of the planet encourages and licenses its citizens to hunt and to manage the health of the herd. My friend used to take many more animals than he does now. When he began, he was inefficient at the hunt and unpracticed at butchering and preserving the meat. It used to bother him when there was waste and when he killed more than he knew he should have to to feed his family. Now he he takes fewer animals and still supplies the needs of his family. The government is asking the citizens to take more animals, because of an overpopulation problem. This has my friend concerned. Should he kill more to help save more? There is a disease that strikes this species when populations crowd the habitat. Should I kill more to save more? He asks. My friend is not a violent man, but he kills.
I have another friend who used to seek out and kill pirates even though he was not a military man. He told himself that they deserved to die, that they were a menace. Sometimes he would seek out their places even when there was nothing to mine just to kill them. We became friends, we talked about death, killing, and if the capsuleer values life. I told him about my mere human friend on the planet who hunted meat, loved the animals he killed and respected their nature. My friend wept. My friend changed. He started treating his crew differently. He stopped killing just because he could. He still kills pirates, but only now when the safety of his crew is threatened. A member of his crew recently told me that he weeps whenever his drones destroy a pirate vessel. "It is regrettable" he says, "It is regrettable."

SELF CONTROL OR SELF DESTRUCTION
Before I begin, I save you the trouble of accusing me by openly admitting that I am going to get preachy. There.
Many capsuleers are on a road to self destruction...or shall i say a gradual diminishing of mind through chemical abuse. I saw such a pilot this evening. Her mental engrams were so disoriented as to make communication rather difficult. The widespread use and overuse of drugs by capsuleers is not a logical course for self preservation.
When an infomorph enters a new neuro-biosphere (clone brain) the mental engrams of memory, experience, emotion, etc. take residence in the organized biomass of neurons in the clone brain. To destroy these neurons en mass inevitably diminishes the quantity and quality of what will be passed on to the next clone brain.
Don't assume you can abuse the body/brain you have because you can just get another. Your mentality that is integrated with that physical brain is harmed too. In other words, don't be so stupid, unless of course it is too late and stupid is all that is left of you.
The Disciples of Ston bid you the wisdom of restraint.

Dear Pilot, Greetings from the Disciples of Ston. Part of our mission is to provide a service to capsuleer pilots who have been pod killed. If we happen upon a clone corpse, we keep it preserved until we can find the owner and return it to him or her.
I am contacting you, because we have a corpse that belongs to you. Our service is free of charge. Here is how it works. Give us the location of a high Sec station of your choice. We will bring the corpse to that station and contract it to you free of charge. We will cover all expenses.
We believe that by returning dignity to death and giving pilots an opportunity to exercise appropriate rites, we will help capsuleers reconnect with their humanity. Just reply to this message and we will get the process going. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

Ston, I figured this is as good a way to reach you as any. Could you cover for me in Abudban and Rens for a day or two while I finish up in Korama? I am almost done here, then I need to get back to old fashioned Disciple work for a while. Thanks, Manwe. P.S. haven't heard from you for a while. You on vacation or something?

AS THEY MOVE THROUGH
Manwe, I am glad that your work in Korama is done and that you are returning to Rens for a while. I fully anticipate that the wonder-lust will eventually get you and you will be back in New Eden. Just remember to do your "regular" disciple work in the reaper.
I prefer to stay in the Piekura/Jita arena for now. As they pass through, I find that pilots in their endless wandering need a voice to challenge the accepted norms of routine violence and greed. Staying where I am is not about hanging on to the old but meeting the new that passes through.
Here is something a bit ironic. The clone bodies that we shed and repossess in the rather morphed process of infomorph transport are, non-the-less based on the genetics of the original. Advanced though we may be, if you live in one such body long enough, genetics might end up getting you in the end. I am experiencing one such genetic surprise right now. Interesting experience. It is called Rheumatoid Arthritis. Pain in the the joints of the knuckles and elbows.
This presents an interesting question for the capsuleer. When faced with physical ailment in the present body, does one cast it off and possess a new body or endure the ailment as "other mere humans" do? What is the "infomorph" thing to do?
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

Edited by: Ston Momaki on 13/08/2011 20:35:47 EVER SEEN A CORPSE WITH A CUTE SMILE?
Before I head back to Corp HQ in Korama to deposit a couple retrieved corpses, I though I should reflect on a couple of ironies encountered in Jita.
One might say, that the first irony is to choose Jita as the place where one would collect corpses with the intention of returning them to their owners. Jita is a 0.9 security system. There is little reason to find corpses there in the first place. When you do, it is usually because people are there for the purposes of fighting and killing. It is the last place in New Eden, where you will find a capsuleer concerned about their clone body. In other words, Jita is a prime example of where you might find capsuleers who are slowly losing the integration of the infomorph with human flesh. I note the irony but would add that it is precisely for this reason, that the Disciples are active here. We wish, not withstanding the futility of the effort, to help encourage the re-integration of infomorph with a positive valuation of the body.
The second irony is where I find that there is hope. Information from the bioscan tag of the one of the corpses indicated that this female identified herself with the nickname, "Cutesmile." Funny thing is that a cute smile only occurs on the face of a body that is fully integrated with a mind and emotions to boot. A pure infomorph can't smile; you need a body for that.
I feel sad for "Cutesmile." Once you smile in a body, you forever change that particular body. Even though the new clone body is a genetic match, it won't wear a smile in the same way as the old body did. The collagen loss of age means that the cute smile you wore when you were young may still be cute, but it shows the depth of your experience over time. I hope "cutesmile" will mourn the loss of her body in Jita, no matter what the cause or whose fault it was. The hope comes in the fact that this particular capsuleer chose to identify herself on the basis of something totally human and mortal. Good for her.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.
P.S. I have just learned that one of the bodies recovered belongs to someone I cannot contact. His name is Halione. Please contact me so your body can be returned free of charge.

Really super bad corporate news:
The investment firm who managed our endowment has closed, and taken our ISK. The Disciples of Ston have no more regular funding for projects, training, or research. I have personally lost a butt load. The principle investment was out of my pocket, now it is gone; or should I say, in someone else's pocket. I took a risk for the Disciples and lost big. How do they say it? "Live and learn."
Implications: I will not fund the Disciples out of my pocket anymore. They will have to earn their own way. You guys are gonna have to either do "real" work or start reprocessing your loot again; something I noticed you stopped doing. You have two office rentals to pay. One is very cheap, the other not so cheap. Consider relocating the second office to another location. I am not sure how you want to work it out. I have good refining skills and am willing to refine for you, but you have to do the gathering.
Another implication: The Disciples have taught me to "hold things lightly." When I noticed that the usual Monday endowment payout was absent, It was the teaching of the Disciples that steadied my emotions. What else can one do but let it go and get on with other things. Our total losses were about 400,000,000 ISK in principle investment. This isn't much for most, but for me and for the Disciples, it is a lot.

TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND RETURN TO SIMPLICITY
Wealth is a trap even in modest amounts. When we have it, we tend to take certain things for granted. We cease being thankful. Sometimes we become lazy. Certainly, we become entitled. The Disciples of Ston were feeling comfortable in the new found freedom to "do other things." Now it is back to basics. Edaine, we are very, very sorry for your loss. You have been unselfish toward our organization from the start and we sincerely appreciate that. We expect nothing more from you.
What you can expect from the Disciples: 1. We will continue to be non-violent. We will find ways to raise funds in a peaceful manner. We will not fire a shot or use any violent means. 2. We will do our level best to continue the Clone Body Return Service free of charge. We might not be able to use the convenience of contracting, but we can deliver as travel costs us only time and not ISK. 3. We will pare back. Manwe has already closed our Rens office. Our Korama office only cost a bit more than 10,000/mo while Rens cost us 1Mil/mo. We can easily cover our rent with minimal effort. 4. I will train some minimal mining skills so I can make a little to cover our costs. 4. Though not ideal, we may have to go back to reprocessing the weapons we take from wrecks and cans. 5. We will be what we set out to be n the first place, before the endowment, before the guarantee of income. We are here to serve and benefit humanity, not ourselves.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.
P.S. I urge all of those associated with The Disciples of Ston to forgive Phaser Inc. and its officers. Do not be bitter. Edaine, this will be the most difficult for you.

ONE IBIS LOAD OF KERNITE
One cargo hold full of kernite pays the rent for a month for our office in Korama. I just deposited the rent amount for our next payment a few moments ago. Prior to that, I visited a 0.4 system next to Korama and mined a tank full of kernite with my trusty Ibis and civilian miner. I hop, skip and jump over to Jita and ISK for rent is taken care of. Simple enough. There are "bad guys" in the system I mined, but they didn't seem to care too much about me in the Ibis. Now on to Disciple work.
I hope this puts things in perspective.

SHE WAS FLYING A SHUTTLE
Tonight, I recovered two capsuleer bodies from Jita. One was a woman who's wreck was nearby. She was flying a shuttle when she was destroyed. Shuttles mount no weapons. Whoever attacked her, attacked and unarmed pilot and then pod killed her besides.
I do not know the full story of what happened but one cannot help but wonder. Why attack an unarmed ship? Why go on to pod kill the pilot? Was someone angry? Was it revenge? Was it boredom? Was it sport? I have heard that there is a way to investigate who kills who in the patrolled systems. Would it be appropriate to publish the violent act and who perpetrated it? There is an extraordinary amount of boasting that goes about on the subject of who killed who and the loss involved etc. Would the killer boast of this deed also?
These kinds of things are always disturbing to me and I hope they continue to be. The day I cease to be disturbed by this violence is the day that my humanity has begun to die.
On other fronts, I am assisting Manwe by trying to triangulate the Jita sun for him while he is off in Minmatar space. I am having some issues. I cannot seem to mark two coordinates that intersect the stellar center. The positions of the orbiting bodies are just not right to get a line on the center. I'll try again tomorrow.
This disciple needs rest. Peace to you and pleasant dreams. The Disciples of Ston. |

BODY RETURNED
The Disciples of Ston began the clone body return service to make a contribution to the capsuleer community that we thought was needed. The core philosophy/spirituality of the service is the belief that maybe by returning dignity to death, we might reduce the frequency of the same.
The woman that I spoke of last night in this forumn is the owner of the first body we have successfully returned. She requested that the body be transported about nine systems from where it was recovered. I was only too glad to do that. I issued a secure contract and she took delivery.
ANOTHER ISSUE
SInce we lost our endowment, the Disciples will have to be alert to another issue. Possession and money are the antithesis of our values, yet we need a modicum of it to do what we do. Tonight, I picked up a tech II barage cannon along with a couple thousand rounds of tech II ammo. Temptation: checking the market value and resale price of the loot.
I had to catch myself and remind myself that never, never, never are we in the arms resale business. If every we think that what we do justifies the furtherance of violence in such a way, then it is time to quit. These are going to the smelting furnace as a reaffirmation of the peaceful foundations of the Disciples of Ston.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

SECOND ATTEMPT IN JITA SUCCESSFUL
The first time I tried to reach the stellar core in Jita, I did not understand Manwe's method of navigation. I was not able to get close enough to make a journey into the core practical. After reading what he had told another pilot, I realized that what I needed to do was to get two nav bookmarks on a transverse line with the sun. I decided to give it another try. This time, I got in the stellar mass and close enough to make an attempt to make it to the core. I am guessing that I am only a few hundred KM from the core and can finish the journey tomorrow.
We will be asking the pilots of Jita for help in our research. This is Manwe's purvey but since he is currently in Amarr space, I will be handling the Jita situation. I see huge, massive vessels here on an hour to hour basis. The Disciples of Ston are asking the pilots of these vessels to assist us in testing our prediction. We believe that the distance one is blown out of the stellar mass is proportional to the mass of the vessel. We would like a freighter captain to help us test this.
I also see the presence of stellar core coordinates as a tool for the Disciples to use for peace in Jita. More on that later.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

LET US BEGIN TO PUT ACTIONS BEHIND OUR VALUES
Recently, one Alizabeth Vea perpetrated an act of abject cruelty upon a slave. This act has prompted capsuleers to declare war upon her and to seek justice through retribution. There are times that peace comes partly through this kind of justice. However, there is much more that we can and should do as a capsuleer, no... as a "human" community. Too long has the capsuleer community used its infomorph status to conveniently separate itself from the plight of humanity. We must do more than punish Alizabeth Vea. We must begin the process of abolition.
The Disciples of Ston are beginning the thought process on this subject with what we believe should be a chorus of efforts by the freedom loving capsuleer community. First, we should demand a form of license whereby capsuleer pilots may rescue slaves, transport them to free space, and free them at designated stations. This form of licensing should not come without cost, but should require training, commitment, and risk on the part of those serious enough to actually act on behalf of the enslaved. Those so licensed should be under a mechanism by which it is impossible to profit in any way from the enterprise of freeing slaves. Concord needs to establish that anyone so licensed may, upon encountering slave holding ships in free space, seize those slaves by whatever means available in order to free them. Slave holders should no longer be able to transport slaves through free space with only a possibility of minimal consequence. We need to sow up our forked tongues and start acting according to our stated values.
We also believe that it is time that a community rise up from among the Amarr to rigorously oppose slavery and to renounce the religious justification for this most wicked institution. It has now become an excuse to say that such reform has its time in the future and that the logistics of freeing the slave makes swift action impossible. There is more than sufficient wealth and infrastructure to free every slave and begin the process of helping former slaves matriculate into lives of dignity and freedom.
It is time. The Disciples of Ston.

DOES NOUVELLE ROUVENOR MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU?
Yesterday I transported four dead clone bodies from Jita back to our storage facility in Korama. Four seemed like a lot to me as they lay frozen in my cargo bay, but IĘm sure that four is very little to most capsuleers. What about 40, is that a lot of dead bodies? What about 400, would you consider that a great loss of life? If the number were 4000, would that trigger a response in your heart? How about 40,000 dead, would the average capsuleer ask what would cause such death? Maybe 400,000 murdered humans would shake your soul.
Nouvelle Rouvenor was the Gallente underwater city that was sabotaged by the Caldari at the inception of the War. Over 500,000 humans died in this senseless act of terrorism by elements of my national identity, the Caldari. The Achura are Caldari instead of Gallente for a rather ironic reason. We tend to shun the material, ephemeral of the universe in favor of the spiritual or mysterious. Gallente hedonism pushed us to the Caldari. Here is the irony, the conflict began over the issue of possession, power and control of new resources. The distance between the hedonism of the Gallente and the possessiveness of the Caldari is indiscernible.
I ran across a fragment of ancient religious text recently that said: ōWhat causes fights and quarrels among you? DonĘt they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but donĘt get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.ö
Regardless of your theism or lack of it, the psychological truth of the above is startling enough. Had Nouvelle Rouvenor never happened, peace likely would have been negotiated and millions more saved from death and generations of hatred averted. I think of this as I transport 4 bodies. I grieve almost to despair when I realize that the owners of these bodies did not regard their own flesh. How much less would they then regard the flesh of others.
The Disciples of Ston bid you Peace.

SIX MORE CORPSES, TWO PUZZLES
Jita is the same place of blood thirst that I have observed but with some puzzles. One such puzzle is why, when no one was attacking her and there did not appear to be any aggression of any kind against her, a pilot would choose simply to destroy her own body. It was one of those rare occassions when I was present to observe the infomorph and body separate rather than just coming upon a copse. This pilot simply set her pod to self destruct. As time goes on, I have greater difficulty grasping this kind of disintegration from humanity.
This is not like suicide, it is not motivated by anything like suicide among humans. It is rather, a sort of throw away mentality. Since I will always have another body handy, why bother with this one? The logic further carries that what in oursleves we do not regard, we will regard even less in others. I do hope I am wrong about this pilot.
The second puzzle, which really isn't all that puzzling but should be, involved a pilot whose body was found floating with three frigate wrecks bearing his identity. One of these wrecks appeared to have been the result of a Concord action. I'm guessing that it was something to do with the sort of "sport killing" that is common place here.
As capsuleers, we should be seeking higher planes of function and existence rather than the juvenile ways accentuated in systems like Jita. What will move us in that direction, I am not sure.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

ODD HAPPENINGS, ODD PATTERNS
The bodies are beginning to accumulate from Jita mostly. In the Disciples of Ston Clone Body return service, a first has occurred. Today, we recovered a second clone body from the same owner. This is a sad benchmark that I am afraid will repeated the longer we work at this.
Today, I also witnessed the second pod self-destruct. I am sure that there is a sort of logic behind this, but I am want almost to hear what it is. Do I really want to know how little regard some have for their humanity? Will it drive me into the shadows of cynicism to know?
Lastly, I had just departed the station when a massive number of outlaw ship materialized and began to attack randomly. Concord destroyed them very quickly, but not one was podded. I have been critical of Concord in the past, but I must say that they take the utmost care not to pod. I must acknowledge that with gratitude and recognition.
I have entered a fray with a certain amount of conviction and zeal and I cannot reverse course. I must pursue the cause of abolition. I adopt a quote from one ancient, noble, emancipator of slaves who said, "If slavery is not wrong, then nothing is wrong." Even though the Disciples of Ston are to be forbearing and patient, I am weary of chin-rubbing, free intellectuals pondering slavery atop the fence of ambivalence. I discovered today, that most will argue their hardest when confronted with the guilt of their own inaction.
I am pleading with Concord to provide capsuleers with legal means to liberate slaves rescued in space encounters. Provide a means of training and accountability. Let those with abolitionist convictions act on those convictions with new tools. Let not the slaver float upon the raft of bureaucratic fear.
There is no such thing as one slave. Wherever there is a slave, there is the slave holder, imprisoned in his own spiritual darkness, ignorance, injustice, self-deception and self-invented religion that justifies his sin. Only when the slave is freed will the slave holder also be free.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

HOW MIGHT YOU BEGIN BRAVE AMARRIAN?
The quote below was discovered in biographical literature from ancient times. The setting was a slave holding culture. The culture was also deeply theistic. The person quoted was a brave politician of the time. In the face of those who would use the religion of the time to justify slavery, this man gathered his nuggets and stated the obvious.
ōConsenting to slavery is a sacrilegious breach of trust, as offensive in the sight of God as it is derogatory from our own honor or interest of happinessö
No such statements from within a slave holding culture are without risk. The slave holders have defined faithful and true believers as those who do not counter the spiritually vulgar practice of slavery. Are there Amarrians who know in their hearts that their anti-slavery convictions indeed come from God and their true faith in God? You know who you are. Isn't time to say what you know is true? I specifically ask this of the capsuleer. You of all Amarrians have the "freedom" to speak independently.
If slavery is to end, its ending must begin with one Amarr voice followed by another and then another...

A GENEROUS DONATION
I while ago, I deposited 10 million ISK into the corporate account of the Disciples of Ston. This generous donation takes a lot of pressure off of us as an organization and frees us to go about our work. Our office rent is very reasonable in Korama and this amount will pay a lot of rental fees and provide for continued training for Manwe and any others who may come along in the future.
To the pilot who gave us this gift: We are humbled.

This is the truth! God created us all in his image and He loves us all equally. He wishes only that we will live lives that further His Kingdom and fulfill the purpose that he has given us; walk the path he has paved for us. Our God is not vengeful, and he does not wish for his peoples to be in bondage to each other. he is forgiving and all accepting. God loves us all equally. I know there are Amarrians out there that know this is the truth. Please, I implore you, do not be afraid to speak your mind. And for anybody who reads this that has been affected by a loss recently, or has lost their faith in God, or has yet to know his Grace, please do not be afraid to talk to Mr. Jaiga or me personally. YET ANOTHER DONATION
Another generous pilot has donated to the Disciples. I do not wish to violate their privacy, but I risk this much to say, that both of these pilots are brave champions of Just causes. In this our hearts are together. I see this as an opportunity to press for these specific areas with God's help. Yet another word to you, brother, Thank You.

THICK CLOUDS OF CHAOS
Have you ever had a dream in which you were trying to pitch a ball fast or trying to run a sprint, but it seemed as if you were under water. In your dream there was a great inertia preventing you from throwing the ball any distance or moving your leg fast enough to run. This dream is my reality.
Let me give you two examples. I see Jita as a place to attempt to reach pilots with a challenge to the standard greed and violence acceptable all around this universe. However, the thick cloud of chaos, particularly of greed and distrust is very hard to penetrate. Sometimes I am lucky to get through and maybe one pilot will take a break from the norm and explore something else; something of the intellect or emotion that harkens back to the best of human experience. The majority of time, the constant scamming and advertisement wipe away any message of substance one tries to communicate. No wonder people resort to violence. It is the only way they believe they will be heard.
Example two: I spoke to Manwe this evening and he was very dissappointed or rather disheartened. He had been responding to the young Amarrian who quiried about the value of freedom. He thought maybe she was beginning to recognize the contradiction in her support, nay her participation in slavery. Then, she speaks of slaves as "her flock." I do not ever believe I have seen Manwe more broken. I encouraged him to wait before responding. Let time soften the response a bit.
There are thick clouds of chaos in this Galaxy. Clouds of self-deception, ignorance, rationalization; clouds of indoctrination and propaganda; clouds of distrust and hatred. The young woman Manwe spoke of is in a cloud. When a slave holder begins to self-define as benevolent or worse yet as shepherd of a flock under her care, the challenge becomes worse than a silly dream; it becomes a nightmare.
When we define God in our own image and always make Him on "on our side" how does that ever help us discover truth and change for the better? Answering this young woman and cutting through her cloud will be a challenge. It will feel like pitching under water. Trying to capture the attention of the violence brokers and junk brokers of Jita will be like running the dash with leaden legs.
But, the Disciples must try.
The Disciples of Ston bid you persistence.

I have kept out of the abolition discussion until this point. If abolition is to become a movement in New Eden, you need legal and procedural infrastructure. You need legal means to begin to pressure slave holders; economic pressure, social pressure, and political pressure. Capsuleers need tools to accomplish this. If anyone who reads this is anti-slavery and would like to help, go to this thread on a new skill called abolitionist and indicate your support. Those who typically read and respond there will not support this initiative, so new voices are needed to press the power that be to provide new tools for abolition. If it is to happen, every avenue must be explored.
Those of you with better ideas, please support the initiative and add your corrections and ideas.
Thanks, Edaine

INTERESTING VISIT TO PIEKURA
To the very interesting pilot I met today in Piekura: Good luck with your upcoming surgery. Thanks for accepting the gift.
ON ABOLITION
Jamyl I declared, "Out there on the event horizon, a new age races toward us, and it is approaching fast. The Lord in his infinite grace has instructed me that the chains that fetter us will no longer be necessary in this new age of light and reason, neither the chains of hatred that restrain our minds nor the chains of indenture that restrain those less fortunate than ourselves."
Why do we need to say more? Why do we need to focus on abolition? Didn't the proclamation of the Empress take care of it?, No. First, there are the Khanid. They enslave any race and are not beholden to the Empress. Second, many loopholes have been found to circumvent the Empress' vision. Third, violations of the Empress' decree involved, ironically, enslavement of the violators families for generations. Children are now suffering for the sins of their fathers by being enslaved. Abolition is for them too.

Hello Ston
As the interesting pilot you met last night I wanted to thank you for showing me the core of the sun. I felt that words were not enough, so I also decided to thank you with a wardec.
The 1 day vote should wrap up tonight and then I get to know you and the disciples a lot better.

YOUR WELCOME MS. GOODMAN??
Um, the customary way to show thanks is not typically to declare war on the person your thanking. Usually you just say, "Thanks" or send a nice note or something. I am sure that having you in a state of war against me will me a novel experience.
In spite of your declaration of war,

It appears there may be a 24 hour delay in the completion of our vote. I foolishly thought I could offer Ston such a gift without first getting the blessing of our spiritual leader, Rosie O'Donnell. She has been consulted and we expect her blessing sometime tomorrow.
As some on here have rushed to Ston's aid threatening violence against Rosie's Chub Club, I ask of you, what would Ston do?

ANTICIPATION OF NEW FORUM
Manwe Todako and Ston Momaki will merge threads in the new format coming September 5th. The administrators of this forum have declared that these forums will be "cast into space and frozen in time." When the new forum opens, there will be one thread entitled, "Disciples of Ston." Both Manwe and I will post our regular logs on that thread. This does not preclude additional threads for special issues that arise from time to time. One reason we are doing this is so that can present a united front in our work and interact with each other more easily. It will also enable the community to more easily see the work of the Disciples in one place.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

Ston seeks to avoid violence. A wardec against him likely means little as he normally flies only rookie ships, trains no skills and just a few weeks ago stole in order to lead people to fire on him.
A wardec against Ston which leads to violence between the war decc'er and unrelated defenders of Ston will certainly be bloody. I guess its the equivalent of those ancient earth religions who blow each other up in the name of their religion despite strict orders against killing.
The thing is, those earth religions went on killing each other because their gods never spoke to them again, telling them that their killing of each other was against his wishes.
Ston has the opportunity here to do what those earth gods could not.
Really, now that Rosie has approved our gift to Ston, the only thing that I see preventing great violence would be the diplomatic powers of Ston and his monks.

Yet more people spoutin' off references to ancient Terran religions and lore. Curious as to where ye all be gettin' this information.
So let me get this straight, yer declarin' war on an entity that ye know be against violence just to see if he will tell others nay to defend him? Gotta love the sadistic mindsets o' certain capsuleers.
'Course, ye failed to mention that ye could also "avoid great violence" by ceasin' to be a twisted sadist and simply nay shootin' at him. Suppose that may be a bit beyond yer mental grasp though.

Edited by: Pfeils Goodman on 01/09/2011 14:42:07 I have never fired upon a Ston.
You have no evidence that I ever will.
In many cultures here in New Eden, a wardec on someone, during which you never fire upon them is considered the most generous of gifts. It shows not only that you are willing to spend isk, but something far more important.
Giving the gift of a wardec says 'Its not fear of concord that keeps me from having shot you, its true gratitude'.
You never truly know who loves you until they CAN fire upon you but do not.
Rosie understands this. I understand this. Ston was very generous to me. Forgive me if my ways seem alien to you.

SAD DAY TODAY
Today in Aurohunen I was pod killed by a nameless outlaw. (not Ms. Goodman) I was there to try to interact specifically with outlaws, but the attack happened so fast I had no time. Ship and pod went in seconds. Todaki is close by, so I raced back as soon as I could after reintegration both to try and catch the outlaw in conversation and to recover my old body for proper rites. Sadly, both were gone. Even though this might be exactly what such outlaws want to hear, I will say it anyway. It grieves me that this body that experienced so many things and was integrated so fully with my mind and emotions, will be treated with no dignity by someone who does not respect the value that I attach to it. I had so hoped to recover that vessel of flesh so I could dispose of it in a dignified way. I will try to repress the thought of what will happen to that body. This has happened many times in the past, but today it is bothering me more than ever before. I find that I am drifting away from my comfort in the life of the capsuleer. My humanity is re-encroaching itself upon me, if that makes any sense.
Manwe says this is why he is training and equipping, so we can survive in less secure space long enough to make an impact or at least learn while there. I think he is right. If we want to talk to the lawless, we must go to where they are.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

Rosie's Chub Club Declares War Against Disciples of Ston From: CONCORD Sent: 2011.09.02 01:16
Rosie's Chub Club has declared war on Disciples of Ston. Within 24 hours fighting can legally occur between those involved.
This was received from Ms. Goodman via Concord late today. Quite an interesting "personality" is this Ms. Goodman. I am not anxious to do anything that would hasten the pulling of the trigger by anyone against anyone. I do sincerely hope that this is just your way of saying thank you for the gift of the stellar core.
Rosie's Chub Club has one member, Ms. Goodman. As disciples, our policy will be to avoid any contact with Ms Goodman and thus avoid conflict. Neither Manwe nor I have any weapons installed on our ships, so Ms. Goodman need not worry about any harm to her by either of us. Edaine is another story. I have no responsibility for his choices in the matter; he is not a disciple. He is not a pacifist. He is armed. He will see the notification from Concord as well. Ms. Goodman, I have no idea how well trained he is, or how well armed he is. I have no desire to see either of you hurt in any way. I hope you will stay clear of each other. The Disciples of Ston bid you peace and safety, Ms. Goodman
NOW BACK TO THE RANCH
Today in Jita, I witnessed a battle between outlaws of sorts. One was destroyed and podded, I immediately headed toward his corpse to pick it up for our clone body return service. His enemies beat me to it. I felt bad for him. I would have seen to a dignified end to his body. I doubt if his enemies will. This leads me to this offer: Those who have a collection of bodies are welcome to donate them to our service. We will never sell them and we will always try to return them to their original owners if they so desire. Our HQ is in Korama.

A FASCINATING NON-SEQUITUR
I have run across an interesting loop of reasoning in a discussion with a Khanid and a couple Amarrians. The closed loop circular reasoning very simply stated can be expressed in a couple ways. Here are some examples: 1. To understand our ways is to agree with them. 2. If you are critical of us, you must not understand us. 3. No informed view will be contrary to our view. 4. No one else has the facts like we do, so contrary views are without basis in fact. 5. Etc This kind of non-sequitur is very hard to counter in that it is like a conspiracy theory of sorts. You can fit anything in it you want. The more I interact with these individuals, the more they claim that they do not care about what I am addressing, yet their pitch of argument is sharpening, indicating that the opposite is true. I have also sharpened the pitch of my own words to call out what I can in the way of emotion. I believe that there is more to the heart of these individuals than what has been pressed upon them by their leaders, traditions, and religion. When a person thinks that he or she believes something, but really doesn't in their heart of hearts, pressing them on the subject usually generates defensiveness. Eventually, that defensiveness will turn to insult. This is very informative for me as I seek to understand the nature of these cultures. My study of their history and even their self-identifications in canon, have shown a recalcitrance to change in belief. This may be a fruitless endeavor, but I am not quite convinced of that yet.
AND...
I have chosen to take a risk that I have taken many times before and many times before have been destroyed and/or podded. The individual who has declared war upon the Disciples of Ston has made no promises of any kind that she will not attack or kill me and so I am taking a risk by being willing to speak with her again face to face, figuratively speaking. This is iconic Disciple work, though, so it is hard to pass up. I want to thank many friends for their concern and their offers of protection. These mean a great deal and they reflect upon the integrity of your hearts, my brothers. Peace be to you and please do not worry about me. There may come a day in our work, when we will need your restrained power and skill. At that time, we will not hesitate to call on you for help.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace

Ston, lets be honest with ourselves here...
We have been nothing but strait-forward with you this entire time. I have expressed my beliefs, why I believe the way I do, and what it means to me. Although my passion has occasionally flared, I have tried to do my best to reason with you while being polite enough. I have been met with personal attacks with no basis to the issue at hand and gross generalizations which would be insulting to anyone, be they Amarr or any other race.
Yet here you are proclaiming that our hearts are closed and that we live in our own twisted world apart from morality and justice. You claim we wont open our hearts and understand what wisdom you wish to share, but are completely unwilling to simply respond or listen to what WE wish to share. Basically you have said nothing but 'shut up and listen to me.' Can you honestly accuse us of your own crimes?
1: You say that we say that in order to understand us you must agree with us. I think that you had said in our discussion that if I understood freedom that I would agree with you... Clearly there is something backwards about your first point.
2: You say that if your critical of us that you must not understand us. No, you must understand us in order to be critical. Otherwise your being critical on the basis of ignorance.
3: you say that no informed view will be contrary to our view. While I believe I am doing the work of God, from whom all truth rises, I have fully admitted that there may be people who are flawed bringing this word to light. But like point 2, ignorance is no position to base an argument.
4: You say that we believe that we are the only ones who are well informed. Considering all the crap we deal with on a daily basis, its not hard to see where this aura comes from. However since in my post my original goal was to get information I was clearly lacking, perhaps this isn't entirely true is it? I did not turn it to the debate it is now, nor was it my intention at any time to do so. Yes, when you put someone on the defensive they will attempt to argue from a point of strength.
I don't think your a bad person Ston. Despite some things I find completely disagreeable I find that your ultimate goal to seek peace is an honorable one. I know you could have been so much more than you have been.

THANKS MS. GOODMAN FOR YOUR GIFT
Although I am so tired I can hardly keep my eyes open, I had to reflect just a little on my meeting tonight in the Piekura stellar core with Ms. Goodman. No weapons were fired. I will want to say more about it later, but for now: The Disciples of Ston Bid You Peace.

Ms. Goldcore, Feel free to quote me directly all you want, but your paraphrasing is revealing more about you than it is about me. I will leave this up to you. If you wish to continue this discussion, repost on the new IGS that is coming online on Monday. If not, do not post. I cannot promise that I will confine the discussion to your parameters. Every capsuleer chooses his or her public identity when we enter training. This goes with us as long as we are capsuleers and it identifies us to others. The only way to change that is to cease to be a capsuleer. I cannot help but relate to you, at least in part, on that basis. I am Achura and I cannot help that. I will be that in my interactions with you and I will not try to deny it.
Too sleepy to think anymore.
Good dreams to you.

If you prefer me not to condense a few long pages of writing on your tab here I certainly can. May take 5 or 6 posts to fully do so... but... It may be easier for those concerned simply to read the forum itself since its just 2 clicks away... still if you prefer some examples I can give some.
You have accused me of being a traitor while misquoting the Empress.

Ms. Goldcore, would you commit treason against your Empress? Wouldn't you wish to honor the wishes of your Empress for the future of your culture? Why not be an example of one who leads in the accomplishment of her glorious vision? Certainly if you have in your possession any from the ninth generation on, you had better free them post haste. And for the rest, your Empress expressed a totality of freedom for all as an expression of breaking chains of hatred and the restraints of mind to usher an age of reason where the grace of God is the focus. Surely, you respect your Empress, don't you? She seemed to value freedom.
You go back on your own words just a post after you say them

Originally by: Ston Momaki Ms Goldcore, let me save you some time. I am not trying to draw any logical lines between your intellectual understanding of freedom and the freeing of slaves.

CONTROVERSIAL BUT EFFECTIVE
At the beginning of the work of the Disciples of Ston, we used the method of petty theft to provoke pilots into conversation about what motivates and empowers the capsuleers of this cluster. This method was very effective. We learned a great deal. When a person is angry, at a thief for example, they tend to express what might normally be repressed underneath the surface. We were able to engage in many hours of revealing conversations, many of which are logged here on this thread and on Manwe's thread. Over time, we also came to realize that our method also hastened the pulling of the trigger. While we often said that the violence committed against us was an absorption of violence that might have been committed against others, it was still violence.
That method was always on the edge of my comfort. Since then, I have abandoned that method. I no longer wish to hasten the pulling of the trigger if I can help it. We have since used science and exploration as doors and have used other means, particularly this forum to do our work. We still use provocation and it is still effective. However, whenever one uses the primal emotions of a person to gain knowledge, there is a risk. The Achura within me is uncomfortable at times with the level of provocation that I use. Time in introspection is telling me to watch my method even more carefully. Perhaps I owe Ms. Goldcore an apology. (I am sure some of you will weigh in on this. Please do.)
NEWS FROM THE "WAR"
The interaction with Ms. Goodman last night could only be described as perfectly befitting a Disciple of Ston. Ms. Goodman was right on target when she said that we are seeking pilots who will restrain from violence not out of fear of punishment from Concord, but because they have the inner quality of restraint. She played me well, but somehow I was happy to be played in this situation. In a war dec one can both legally destroy the ship and the pod. Neither happened. I wonder if this scenario has ever happened before in this cluster. One armed ship and one unarmed ship from corporations in a state of war and no shot fired. The conversation was civil and philosophical. It was, indeed a gift, Ms. Goodman. I thank you.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.

Regarding the opinion you asked me about Ston... Do you remember some time ago, you logged and interaction with a pilot in Piekura. I believe the conversation went on for about 45 minutes. During that time you were collecting data and making notes to log later. These were know only to you and not your subject. The current experiment you are conducting is a longer version. Take notes, collect data but wait and process it later and communicate your results then rather than now. I have seen some of your data and it looks exactly like the Piekura experiment only on a larger basis with a much larger data field. What I would like to see you do is to change your variable in another experiment to see if there are any constants.
I saw Edaine today in Rens. You will never guess, or maybe you will.

DISCIPLES OF STON PERFORM FIRST CREMATION RITES TODAY
DSTON clone body return service collected three bodies today for return. We also conducted our first ceremonial cremation. A Gallente pilot requested that we determine the final disposition of his body as we felt appropriate. There was a very lonely dignity to the ceremony especially compared to the way that most of these bodies end up floating about spaceship traffic or sold as biomass or worse. It was a very "human" experience. I was pleased that we were given permission to do this. Perhaps others may take this option as well. O yes, the method of cremation was to bring the body to a stellar core. I can think of no more appropriate disposition of a capsuleer body than literally among the stars.
Thank you Manwe for the exercise of discretion concerning that matter of which we spoke. Hopefully no damage was done.
The Disciples of Ston bid you peace.
