Is there a general rule when it comes to what to sell and what to refine? As in:
Sell meta 4, refine everything else.
I've got around 300+ different named mods in quantities from 3 to 10 of various meta levels and I was going to sell them but then I wondered if I was doing the right thing.
It seemed like a good idea earlier on but I'm not so sure now.

General rule that won't maximize your earnings: * Most meta turrets and launchers sell, especially 3 & 4. * Other than that, sell only meta 4.
I tend to try sell everything lately though.
I often see modules listed at decent sell-order prices, then check the history to see that one has rarely ever sold above buy-order prices. In other words, few ever buy them from sell orders, and buy orders are reprocessing them.
Just about everything else will sell, eventually, if reasonably priced. It helps to be able to place a lot of sell orders.
Don't forget about broker fees and transaction taxes either.

Confirming you should reprocess everything.
I just reprocessed a Draclira's Cap Recharger.

To those who say reprocess everything - can you explain this? Surely some modules can be sold for more than the price of the composite minerals.

they are being unhelpful and sarcastic. generally unless you have lots of refining skills you are better off selling everything. Meta 3/4 can be extremely valuable - but only the right mods. I haven't missioned for a while - but when i did - i accidentally reprocessed hundreds of millions of isk. The most valuable meta 4 mods are ones that go on a passive drake- most market demand... Other than that reprocess with caution...

Thansk, my sarcasm monitor failed on this occasion.

I used to sell everything, because I could not memorize all the names of non-meta 4 modules, but not I sort by meta level, and reprocess meta 0-2, and sell all meta 4, and usually I also sell meta 3 but some I reprocess.
Anything meta 5 you can sell too, of course. Or use yourself (likewise you can use meta 4 modules, of course). For meta 6+, you must mostly go via Contracts, which is annoying, although some high-turnover items like Caldari Navy BCS, should be easy to sell. Or use yourself. In my experience, finding meta 6+ as loot drops is extremely rare.

Well you've all managed to reassure me, even in some of your more 'roundabout' ways
It was late and I was tired by the time I'd finished moving things so that was where the doubt crept in.
Is there a program or site that gives the mineral breakdown of modules? I've never had any need to use spreadsheets in work or home so it would probably take me ages to sort something out.

You don't need it. Seriously, you don't. Just sell all meta 4+, and sell the meta 3 that you can get a good price for; refine the rest of meta 3 and all meta 0-2.

Nearly all meta 4 is sellable for a profit
Most meta 3 also is.
Meta 0-2 is usually better off being reprocessed, unless your refining skills suck.

Reprocess generic stuff. Hoard meta-level stuff and throw up on sell orders when you have sufficient quantity. Hoard T2 for later use.
Personally, I hoard ANY meta-level gear, for my eventual get-rich-quick idea of having someone jump-freighter it out to nullsec and throwing up a bunch of sell orders at a big markup. Or just for quick thrown-together small ship fits. I recently tossed a salvage ship together out of a mining frigate I'd had kicking around, and a bunch of spare parts and meta-level gear.

Greetings,
I very much like this program :
http://www.homo-programmatis.com/EveRefinery/
You give it your api key and it will tell you for each item whether to sell or refine.
Some common sense is still required, somehow it feels wrong that a Minmattar Shuttle can sell for 10 million, I guess some evil person has a buy order in low sec :P

This I one field I feel confident in talking about. In over 7b in mission loot bought, it averages out to always sell indiscriminatly. Generally if I buy buy 1b in loot it will refine for about 890m. Now if you refine and sell perfectly it's worth 1.3ishb I buy mission loot in bulk at above buy order prices! (sinq laison) |
