Edited by: Tarigal on 22/04/2011 01:29:38 So I think these two FOTMs probably square off quite a bit. I was flying around with a friend last night when we had a nice little drake/drake vs hurricane/drake fight, which got me thinking.
I am looking for tactics on a 1v1 between these two ships. How fast is the engagement's conclusion decided? What are the different builds that each ship might bring to the table, and which ones are more effective then each other. I am looking for less EFT warrioring and more actual battlefield experience where you were in one of the two ships, and you did something that decided the outcome of the fight (other then push F1).
If you are the drake, have HMLs, does winning this fight depend on getting a range advantage early? Is it even possible against a nano hurricane? A non-nano hurricane?
These are just example questions. I want some real world experience on people who fight often in hurricanes, and how they beat drakes, and the same for drakes, who beat hurricanes.
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Edit: I searched Google, couldn't find any posts like this

Drake can't catch Hurricane.
Hurricane can't kill Drake.

The reason our cane+ drake had no problem with your 2x drake + gate guns was pretty simple. You were flying a low tank, low dps long range fit. While you had the nano's to keep burning faster than us and the webs to bring death to any light tackle that could follow you. You did not have an arazu, light tackle or anything to hold us down while you plinked away from 70k. If you moved into point range a cookie cutter fit ham drake would out dps you and out tank you.
As far as cane vs drake the fight should very much boil down to fit, sp, and possibly slaves. A good ham drake can probably beat most canes on the flip side the cane gets more speed. A heavy drake not so much, dps is too low.
If you want good fitting and tactic advice eve-o is a bad place to do it. http://failheap-challenge.com/ is an excellent website

Above is good advice. In general, a HML Drake should be able to kill or force off a shield cane, especially if they start at any range over 20k. Killing its ECM drones is often a good plan to reduce randomness. But in terms of the ehp/dps race the Cane will lose, so try to land a web after its drones are gone and hold tackle for the kill.

The bigger the groups, the better the canes become (as drakes passive recharge becomes less important). For 1v1 or 2v2 drake is probably still king though.

If you are using Shield Canes (which you are fool not to these days), then swap an extender for a Kin hardener.
Gives you 50% more EHP when up against Drakes and then its just matter of snuggling up close (2-3km) overheat and pound away while using neuts to kill his cap (coincides almost perfectly with reaching peak shield recharge if I recall).
Throw in some gayness ec-xxx drones and you really need to suck to not kill them.

Is it worthwhile a drake shooting kinetic at shield cane? I dont fly them but do the numbers support using the ships bonused ammo type vs the shield canes massive em shield hole? |

Your standard shield Cane's lowest resist is Thermal( 30%). It covers it's EM hole with a resist rig and DC2 (38%). Kinetic resist is still only 47%, so worth it to fire bonused kinetic rather than unbonused EM or thermal.

Yes, but Drakes are FoTM and as such the ship of choice for the ignorant. Very few are able to resist the sirens call of the kinetic damage bonus .. always bet on the stupidity of the human animal.
In fact, you'll be hard pressed to find a Drake that even carries ammo other than Scourge, the only ones I have seen are the ones who flew it in PvP prior to it becoming a fad.

Versus shield canes I usually have half my launchers loaded with Thunderbolt Fury, the others with kinetic. Hedges your bets to some degree, and provides even damage application over shields/armor so you know exactly when the cane is going to drop.
Any drake pilot who doesn't fly with CN Havoc will learn the error of his ways sooner or later.
