So in two weeks I will have Command Ships V. I'm currently flying a NH, but I'm getting a little sick of the missiles. I'm wondering which command ship I should train for next? (Mostly running L4s for now.)

I'd vote Sleipnir. I've found that not only does it compliment my NH beautifully, it's actually fun to fly. Just fit it out like a baby Machariel and do a bit more to mitigate damage with speed and... that's about it.
I haven't actually tried an Astarte despite the facts that a) it's cheap and b) I've been meaning to since the MWD deadspace changes.
And I just can't get excited about the Absolution. It's still sluggish and it just can't be the stationary damage projection monster that Amarr BSs are. Apparently they can be right nasty in W-space though....

^^ That. Sleip and NH, depending on what you intend to do.
Sleipnir laughs at anything that deals (and is weak it) EM damage, and deals very well with explosive-weak stuff. NH deals very well with all the Kinetic/Thermal-based rats.
Also, they are really the only CSes that work for PvE ù the rest of them are pretty horrid for that purpose, so it's not much of a competition. The two that you can use are roughly equal, but for different kinds of missions. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Looks at Sleipnir... Looks at Loki...
Uhm... in PvE, when would you use a Loki over a Sleipnir? And is it possible to unlearn injected skills and get a refund on the skill books?

Low-sec plexing? In highsec, I see little to no reason not to go for the Sleip. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

I know what you mean with ze Missiles .. You want the Instant gratification of guns.
Sleipnir. I've use both quite much. Nighthawk was always (if I remember right) faster. (Active tanked Gankhawk, Sleipnir with Autos and Arties ... no, not what you think, I didn't mix weapons :D )
I really wanted to like Astarte or Absolution for PVE .. but both don't even come close to the performance of badly fit Sleipnirs or Nighthawks. Shame.
That said with decent skills most PVE BSes will beat you in performance. Tengu will beat Sleipnir by quite a bit .. and the Nighthawk by a bit less. ____________ nerf metagaming, boost fun |

Edited by: Mnengli Noiliffe on 23/04/2011 10:13:48 sleipnir lacks dps OR range of an absolution unless you can't use EM/thermal for damage.
as of the tank, i tank just fine with 3 slots, 4 others being taken by imperial heat sinks. for some missions i use 4 slots omni tank just in case. i also don't use any deadspace reps (they need to much grid so i can't use my lovely large bat II), i use meditation one.
my fit is this rigs: 2 CCCII lows: 3 or 4 imperial navy heat sinks, medium `meditation' armor rep, true sansha armor thermic hardener, 2 or 3 mission specific hardeners. meds: 10mn AB II, large capacitor battery II, tracking computer II mostly with optimal range script. highs: 6 medium beam laser IIs with aurora , navy ultraviolet and navy multispecs, OR 6 medium pulse laser IIs with scorch, conflagration and navy multispecs (when I need tracking). also small tractor beam for mission conts. drones: either 5 warrior IIs or 5 hobs II, no need for webs or multiple tracking comps for frigs.
I use pulse setup for the missions with lots of dampening serp cruisers when I can't lock farther than 15km anyway.
I get 700 dps with beam multispacs at 18km, 62km 400 dps with beam auroras (very low tracking though so sometimes you have to stop to hit an approaching frigates) and navy ultraviolet for 30km-ish range give about 520dps.
with pulse setup, I have 700 dps at 26km with scorch and 940 dps at 8-9km with conflagration.
even that dps is too low for my tastes though since its too short ranged, i am sick of guns for that reason and currently training for missiles ... seriously, come on, guns are just not fit for missions.
ok maybe BS guns are a bit better but I will first get my tengu fully operational.
Oh I so wish I could unlearn those useless command ships 5 and battlecruiser 5 skills and exchange them for decent missile skills... CCP practically nullified all these huge SP amounts by introducing the low skill SC pve pwnmobiles. Ok it's actually only 1 SC pve pwnmobile, tengu.

The trouble with an absolution is that its resist profiles says "Let's run Angel Plexes!" and its damage type says "LOL no."

So fit more heatsinks / TE's then.

Or you could get a Sacrilege, load up explosive damage, and actually clear the site within a reasonable time.

Tengu is quite a bit more expensive, and alliances tend to get very mad at you when one of them ends up on a killboard. Against Angels, the tank and damage are comparable (Tengu's extra range is unnecessary, the absurd thermal resist is wasted, and the kinetic bonus isn't very useful either.)
So I could use a 150 million isk ship...or a 500 million.

Edited by: fkingfurious on 24/04/2011 09:00:37 Nighthawk and Sleipnir are the only 2 options for a lvl 4 Command Ship. I actually went from Sleipnir to Nighthawk and tbh the NH is the better boat against anything except EM weak rats, but thats not to say that the Sleipnir isn't ver good.
It can fit plenty of tank, an AB and decent enough DPS with artillery. It's biggest drawback is its crap-tastic lock range. In missions where rats start at 100km you will have to travel 40km before you can actually lock them to get em travelling towards you. Other than that it's a pretty solid ship and certainly more "fun" than a NH.
The Loki on the other hand is utterly awful as a mission boat. Assuming you want the web bonus and 6 turrets you end up with 4 mids which just isnt enough for a shield tank. So you have to armor tank it which leaves you with a rubbish tank, not enough space for the damage mods you should be fitting so you have ****e dps to boot, plus the fact that it doesn't really have the CPU to fit it all and its capacitor is pretty shoddy too. It's pants.

Edited by: Machiavelli''s Nemesis on 24/04/2011 11:13:46 Sleipnir definitely.
It's the fastest and the cutest. I recently got an astarte aswell but having tested it, it's clearly inferior to the sleip.
Sleip's falloff bonus and tank bonus AND the fact you can make wickedly fast should make it moderately amusing to fly in missions.

It's T2 resist plugs the explosive hole, and its an armor tanker. That means it has omni resists without any mods fitted. That means it's resistance profile says run anything you damn well please.

+1 Unfortunatly it's not possible to unlearn injected skills atm but it's a dam good idea that i wish CCP would implement.
