It's putting a character into a hostile alliance, and then using that character to tackle ratters for you. ------------------------

in one of the COAD links, they said "We're tired of awoxing FC's warping us to 0, repeatedly, on fleets we have no business being at 0."
I know that they imply this is bad, but why Awox? I knew the idiot when he messed about in Molden heath but his action when he went to PL.

Some time ago when the term first appeared, AWOXing simply meant tackling someone in a shiny ship and cynoing / jumping a hostile fleet on top of them to kill them. Nowadays it is used for pretty much any blue-on-blue spy-related incident. ---

Most likely started from real roots of AWACS (sounds like awox if you don't know it's an abbreviation):

Locating the enemy before they can find you by flying about usually in a non threatening looking craft and relaying intel to your gang.
Just people making up for the weak intel maps + onboard scanners can deliver.
So, apart from the spelling goof, it's the right word for the task being done.
Fizzt!

Sorry, but the name comes from a person called Awox who was one of the first pioneers of awoxing.

Troll? If not, consider Awox chose his name based on Awacs and it was already taken.

Awox just tackled blue's and got his fleet to kill them so now as soon as someone tackles blue's and has a fleet warp in on them that guy is called an awoxer.
It's just a name that stuck around -------------

The term "Awoxing" comes from an event long ago. Awox had joined Pandemic Legion who was +10 to Goonswarm. Awox used his blue Pandemic Legion character to get warp ins for his out of Alliance characters. This was still in an era where physical people would rat not bots, so you could get the drop on them.
His name became the verb for it just like "Running Lofty" was named after Lofty69(or something similiar) despite others coming up with the idea beforehand. He was just the case that drew the most attention from 0.0 Alliances.

Awoxing is to using a spy to get to kill soft pve targets (by providing them warp ins or the equivalent)
as "Leroy" is to rushing into a situation recklessly . (Awox being a Eve Character, Leroy Jenkins a WoW character ... although we know that Awox actually did that sort of thing and Leroy was probably a gag)
