No, you really don't. You buy the lowest order in the selected range and you pay the price you selected instead of the price it's listed at. _

Quote: To clarify :
A duration sell order is an order to "sell for NO LESS than X". A duration buy order is an order to "buy for NO MORE than X". An instant sell order is an order to "attempt to sell for EXACTLY X to the lowest priced buy order whose range extends to the sold item's location". An instant buy order is an order to "attempt to buy for EXACTLY X from the lowest priced sell order at location Y".
Wow, I have been playing for years, and never knew this (and feel stupid as a result). I thought it was just a wallet glitch when the 10 ISK/unit sell orders I had were getting 100 ISK/unit. Time to update my market strategies. Sucks about that Eagle thing though...

OP is so repetitively stupid it has to be a troll, no one is that idiotic.

Originally by: 0o0Preatorian0o0 My order was the only order high on the market, several others lower. So in which case when I clicked to buy my high order, it should have in theory sold me some one elses ship at the 84Mil price. Not the highest at 842Mil.
The EVE market works not like that and it never did, not a single day since the beginning. You get the cheapest available item, you pay all the money you are willing to pay (in this case your 842 mil).

Well durr, if you have been buying region wide then when you went to buy your own stupidly priced order you would probably have it set in the range field too REGION WIDE because you're a dumb ass and forgot to change it. So even if your order was the only one in the station it would not matter because you instructed the market you wish to buy region wide and so the isk goes to the lowest seller where ever that maybe. |

The name of the menu action is very misleading, it should be changed from 'buy this' to 'buy at this price'.

This is a stupid mechanism imo, there isn't a real market that works like that (afaik). A buy order gets matched to the lowest sell order, period. Unless the seller manages to move up the sell order just in front of your buy order (at any/higher price) but that is either illegal or very sophisticated, both of which are impossible in EVE anyway (due to time delays etc).
So yeah, I would not "expect" the market to work like this because it is a brokered thing and a buy order should mean "Buy at the lowest available price but below price X" and not "Pay as much as I am willing to pay even if someone is willing to sell it lower".

Brokerage always worked like this. Buyer gives broker price willing to spend, broker looks for cheapest available sell, pockets the difference. The difference in eve is that instead of the broker keeping the difference it all goes to the seller (there is a rather bemused by happy eagle seller somewhere). Ccp should have the broker keep the isk instead and take some isk out of the economy.

Edited by: SencneS on 27/04/2011 18:34:25 I kinda of wish CCP would grow some balls and NOT credit the lowest seller with the additional ISK from someone paying over priced.
I would SO Support CCP changing the mechanic to "Broker keeps excess" instead of "Broker pays seller excess" in the real world if a Broker know someone is selling an Item for X price, and someone comes to him and says "Hey I want to buy this several of this item, here is y amount of money, make it happen.." The broker doesn't turn around and give the seller the excess cash. He chargers the Seller a fee for listing the product, and charges the buyer a fee for purchasing the items on behalf on the buyer. Only pays the seller WHAT HE ASKED FOR IT! If the Bid is he higher the seller doesn't get, the Broker does!
Dr.E is concerned about not enough ISK SINKs there is a BIG FAT ONE Right there! Broker Keeps excess.. Done..
If you place a buy order with an extra ZERO on it, BOOM! Sucked out of EVE, the Seller only gets what he asks which should make them happy, and the dumb buyer has a MASSIVE broker fee! Oh.. you lost 1.x Billion because you added a zero to the buy order.. too bad.. Well thanks for helping stabilize the EVE Economy! Have a nice day!

I agree this mechanism is just stupid. It's not how real markets work (or even how markets intermediated by brokers work).
